Title: Running Savage Worlds at a convention
Post by: jhkim on September 26, 2023, 04:55:58 PM
So I thought I'd toss out the question of what the best resources for running SW (SWADE) for a convention one-shot.

I plan on using poker chips for Bennies and Shaken/Wounded, along with standard cards for initiative.

I can't rely on players knowing the rules, so any SW-specific thoughts on getting players into the system quickly? I found some cheat-sheets for those new to the game:

Any other reference sheets that people find helpful?

I have run Savage worlds at conventions and I have found it an easy system to run.  I have found players pick up the system by doing.

That sheet you provided is a great idea and I may borrow it for when I run another convention game.

I have run adventures that were easy to run and play and really only used the the basic rules so that the players didn't have to learn too much.   The two adventures I have run were The A-Team and a Scooby do adventure.

TLDR: Run an adventure that only uses the basic rules of Savage Worlds so it's easier for the players.

With that sheet you will have no problems at all at a convention.   People who have never heard of RPGs can often pick up SW pretty quickly and IME people who have played most any other RPG are going to pick up SW in minutes.
