Got to say this is one good looking book. Skimming through I still don't see it replacing Mythras for my day to day game but I'll definitely steal from it and if/when running a Glorantha game use it.
Wasn't sure about the decision to split into three books at first but if the gamesmasters guide and bestiary are half as good then it was a winning idea.
First flick through looks good, but still not fussed about the RQ2 category bonuses and hit point calculation.
Pretty cool cover illustration. I think I will wait for the physical book though (I have the quick start for now).

Yeah its a weird step back but liveable in the occasions I might game in Glorantha.

I am glad you like it, but that cartoonish style leaves me cold.
Jon Hodgson did a great cover of Gloranthan Adventures OTOH
And Pascal Quidault's stuff for Mythras/Mythic is amaaaaaazing.
This looks better than I thought it would. Doesn't seem like a pure nostalgia product like the Quickstart. With this and the RQ2 reprint, Chaosium are slowly gaining my trust back.

Given the stylistic quality of the Mythras art direction I'd love them to have Chaosiums budget.
I do like the new RQ style though.

I think they've done a good job of producing THE Glorantha game.
The new edition takes inspiration from some of the best rules of Runequest and ideas presented in previous brp games, (Jason Dural helped here?) like for example the Attack and Parry matrix (Elric!) and Passions (Pendragon). I see it as a continuation of the Chaosium/AH 3d edition but with "trimmed fat" and an absolute gorgeous new look. It's possible the best edition of the classic game imo.

Glorantha is a setting. No game can be THE game for it, even if it's what the creator recommends.

I'm not suggesting you can't use anything else, just a bit of friendly hyperbole. However it's nicely designed with the setting strictly in mind.
Yep, RQG ties in with Glorantha better than any previous version, including RQ2.

That this makes me simultaneously more and less interested in the new version says something about my ambivalent attitude towards Glorantha.

Yea, maybe it ties RQ better with Greg's Glorantha, or various other people's. My Glorantha is the Glorantha best described by RQ2 and it's supplements, with tidbits I choose to borrow from later supplements...
I hope sometime the PDF comes on sale, I'm not sure I'm in for almost as much for the RQG core rules (assuming each of the three books is about $27) as I spent for the entire Classic RQ line in PDF (Shaman level on the kick starter, $100) to see if there's a few tidbits I can use...
Of course that's a view I've held before. I chose not to shell out for RQ2 back in the day because it didn't have much I wanted to use over RQ1 (about 15 years ago I finally acquired RQ2 in a deal of the century on eBay, getting most of the RQ2 line for something like $100, including the Pavis boxed sets that I had not owned previously). I've been divesting myself of HeroWars/HeroQuest era stuff that I found ultimately not very useful.
So there are ideas in the new game that look useful, and if my budget was like it was in the early 2000s, I'd be all excited. Today, with a wife and kids and other priorities, sad to say it drops to the bottom of the list.

Which is nice. But my point is that this is still no guarantee it would be the best option for said setting;).
I got the ~50 page quick start version of this they put out a few months ago and have had a chance to go through it. I have two questions for people with the full edition:
1) The font on the quick start rules is pretty small and hard to read (particularly on the off-white, parchment-style background). Is that also what the main rules are like or do they have a bigger font?
2) I was surprised at how advanced and complex the PC's are in the quick start package. Are they representative of what you get at the end of the PC creation process?

How are skill category bonuses and hit points calculated in RQG? I never had access to RQ2.
