This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Rules for Cantrips for Rules Cyclopedia

Hi all,

Anyone know any good homebrew rules or adaptations that are online that give Rules Cyclopedia Magic-Users some starting cantrips?

Thanks :)

Warthur

Well, there's always the AD&D rules for cantrips. The 1E ones are in Unearthed Arcana, the 2E in Tome of Magic. You can pretty much drag and drop them into RCD&D as-is.
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Eh, I don't really want to buy a new book though, particularly UA which I thought was dreadful and which when it came out brought our then campaigns to a crashing halt.

Don't know if this will help or not, but here are some quick and dirty rules that I use for RC.

QuoteClerics, Magic-Users, and Elves may cast orisons (clerics) or cantrips (magic-users, elves) equal to their Intelligence or Wisdom divided by 3 per day. A successful Intelligence or Wisdom check is required to cast and make it work; class level may be used as a modifier. Any single object is affected (save vs. Spells allowed) with a maximum healing/damage of 1d2, duration of 1 turn, range of 30', and a weight of 25 coins. A "to hit" roll is required to avoid the save negating (1/2 damage otherwise).
"Meh."

RPGPundit

Geez, I don't remember now, and I'm too lazy to look through my complete collection, but didn't one of the gazeteers have optional rules with something similar to cantrips? Or am I just remembering wrong?

I can see that: I only keep it around for the extra spells and magic items (which are by and large solid, or at least not as game-wrecking as the new classes or as baffling as Comeliness or the massively expanded table of races).

Nice stuff, I'd rather have specific listed spells as per later editions, but I may use that.

Hey, that's simple and workable.  I like the flexibility for minor effects and the strong limits.

Then I give you Peako's Book of Cantrips which is AD&D2, but is about as comprehensive as you can get for cantrips.
"Meh."
