I've just been offered a hard copy of the Portuguese translation for a price that's a tad expensive (US$45 or thereabouts). It seems to be in NM or VG+ condition. Judging by the cover I'm pretty sure it's the 1990 2nd edition.
I've only played it once and I'll be damned if I remember anything about it. But it's a classic, right?
Should I pick it up? Would I be better served by a PDF of either the 2nd or 3rd edition? What do y'all think? It's not like I don't have my hands full already. Crucial question, can I run a decent campaign with the core book alone and no supplements?
I played the fuck out of 2nd back in the day. Its worth the pick up in my opinion. 3rd is the devil, where the setting was trashed, and OMG the art (if you can call it that) makes me want to stab the author
It's a classic and a fine game (and the art in the European editions is a little different from the US edition as I recall?), but if you don't have any attachment to it already, $45 seems like a lot of money.
I bet you could get the English-lang US edition of the same thing for $15 or less, frankly.
I got to play it some, and the book is very evocative. I don't know that I'd fork over $45 for it when I can get a PDF. I'd pay $45 for the Night City supplement WITH the map.
Cyberpunk 3 is more on the post cyberpunk side with alt cults and stuff. Not my thing, and the horrible reviews didn't help.

Looks like used copies are running about $35 and up on Amazon/ebay.
Since it's all b&w interiors, I'd just grab the pdf and have it printed and bound.
Or ooh! DTRPG has it POD (http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/50354/Cyberpunk-2020-The-Second-Edition-Version-201) for 30 bucks.
And yeah you can get lots of gaming out of just the core book. It's a great game.

The terrible doll art didn't either.
I love Cyberpunk 2020. we had some awesome games back in the day.
I think I'll pass then. But I might pick up the PDF or POD hardcopy. :)
I think you can run a decent campaign with just the corebook. Admittedly, I have very little experience on that point. Every time I tried to run this, my gaming crew of the time just spent all their time bitching that there were no trolls or magic.
What experience I have gotten with it has shown me that it works best when there is as little action as possible, but a really high threat of action occurring. The more armor is in the game the sillier things will be.
Back around the time of my Goodwill thread, I went through what I owned for this game and realized that I didn't care for many of the supplements. I discarded a good chunk. I also realized the only two I ever found useful in actual play where Chromebook 1 and 2.
