This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Possible Signs of the return of the 1980s: The Dark Crystal Returns

Remember the dominance of fantasy in the 1980s? Dark Crystal, Labyrinth were classics. But we also got the movie version of the Neverending Story, and a bunch of other fantasy movies like Krull (I remember the video game well).

These weren't great movies by any means, but they were memorable, and inspiring when I was young.

Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, PowerPuff Girls, etc..) is going to be directing a (remake? sequel?-  think this says "sequel") to the Dark Crystal in conjunction with Hensen Studios.

Last night I also saw Eragon with my kids. I was prepared for a fairly lame movie but I ended up liking it. It reminded me just a bit of Star Wars.

Well, so long as it's still gonna be puppets, and Genndy's not animating the thing, it should be fine.

Dr Rotwang!

The 80's shall not so much "return" as they will "re-take their rightful place as the One True Culture".

That's why there's a Church of New Wave, and I am Its Prophet.

No, please, 80s hairdos can stay dead, thankyouverymouch...

And that Dark Crystal thing is pretty old news. We'll see a real life Last Unicorn in the near future, too.

kregmosier

we can probably also add the rumors of a new Goonies movie, as well as "32 Candles", the Hughes-rumored "16 Candles" sequel.

I think in terms of style he has soem potential, but in terms of quality, his stuff, like, sadly, much of the American animation on TV these days, is barely above the primitive crap you find on new grounds.

I expect more from supposed professionals than half assed flash animation.

Yeah, I liked it a lot as a kid. It pushed my suspension of disbelief a bit though. I mean rocketships, planetisimals, blue blood, hawkmen and all that was fine, but the idea that Flash would pick horsefaced, overly made up, frizzy haired Dale over the incredibly hot Princess is just crazy.

Quote from: Aos.... but the idea that Flash would pick horsefaced, overly made up, frizzy haired Dale over the incredibly hot Princess is just crazy.

Very true, but you've got to remember, the film was trying to teach would be gamers something. The princess ended up with Prince Barin (the way cool Timothy Dalton).

Think about it, here's a guy whose honey(the princess) told him to keep the object of her would be affections (Flash) safe from daddy, in his swamp like planet.

Then he (the prince) tricks Flash into breaking some sort of law, which results in All American boy here, having to put his hand through this slimy hole, which houses something that looks like alien female genetalia with claws....after all this, he fights Flash on a revolving platform, befriends blondie boy and then leads an attack on Ming's fortress. He then saves the princess, whose getting whipped, amongst other things.

What's the lesson...allow your character to be badass...it's the best way to play rpgs and get the girl (in game off course :D )

BTW, thanks for the link Sosthenes - hopefuly more madness is on the way :D
