This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

As a parallel to a similar thread.  I'm curious about what games people have enjoyed thanks to a solid enjoyable fanbase.

All Flesh Must Be Eaten has what I remember to be one of the most helpful and enjoyable official forums, and fans I've met at shops have always been fun to bullshit with.  I was always into zombie films but didn't really dive into zombies as a roleplaying focus until I stumbled into those forums.  Sadly work put that site on the blocked list so I rarely have time to stop in there anymore.

How about anyone else?  Which game fanbases have heightened your enjoyment of a game?

A lot of the cool, fan generated, stuff that came out for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay really helped me get into that game... in fact I'm kind of sad it came back into print with a second edition and all sorts of 'official' product to muck it up and bring it back in line with the Wargame version.
That said, the Skaven book is awfully damn nifty.

The fanbase for Kult has done a lot more to make that game playable than the companies who produced it ever did... The Abyss and The Final Circle were/are great sources of inspiration/information.

Exalted. Not the stuff that goes down on rpg.net, but the Pattern Spider forums really helped me figure out what's so cool about Exalted.

I never would have picked up Tunnels & Trolls if Rotwang! hadn't been joyriding it right to my heart :D

All the high quality fan made material for Harn is enjoyable, and I'm really diggin the grassroots feel of the "old school" stuff, especially LL and MF. I actually also dig the pseudo-academic crap surrounding Ars Magica, kinda gets me into the mindset of the game... I visualize the Magi being the same way themselves :)

I think the sheer enthusiasm of some fans get me to take a look at games I might not otherwise. I can't think of specific instances other than Qin, but I'm sure its happened at other times.

BRP games in general...I've never run into a CoC fundamentalist as described in the other thread.

Spycraft 2.0 even though I don't like d20.  I really like it, don't know when (if) I'll ever get a chance to use it.  A lot of commentary noted potential pitfalls, and helpful with questions.

Adventure!, even though I ended up not really liking the system in play.  There was a lot of enthusiasm surrounding that game when it was released, and I'm glad I tried it even if it wasn't the best experience.

EDIT: Oh, Sigmund mentioned Harn...that's another one I agree with.
For fuck\'s sake, these are games, people.

And no one gives a fuck about your ignore list.

V:tM fans turned me off, but one particular fan really turned me on. She was this hot little thing, whose only flaw was her abilty to go on and on about the minutiae of Vampire politics. But if play sessions might end nibbling her neck... let's say I was sorely tempted. :D

I ordered Savage Worlds after having a number of fans recommend it to me for a running a Supers game with minis.  It should arrive any day now. :)

Enthusiastic GMs at conventions often lead me to checking out their favorite games.   Online enthusiasm...not so much.    I had such a great time at the Palladium Open House event a couple of years ago that it got me to re-look at their game lines which led me to re-discovering Ninjas & SuperSpies.   Wow, after running that game a few times, its my go-to Spy RPG.

Leo,
Did you play MadLibs/Cut & Paste with one of my old posts? That reads like something everyone else would say that I post.

Unknown Armies.  I heard so much good shit about the simplicity of the system + the fucked up nature of the setting, that I had to buy it...Instant love, there.

In my experience, the nicest, the most helpful fans I've ever seen in a forum are the Hârn fans. Always eager to help, I've rarely seen any bad blood among them. Kudos to them!!
