This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Poll: Are you a D20 Fan?

I'm not a fan of D20, but neither am I a foe. It just doesn't scratch my itch, though it seems to scratch most gamers just right. I was initially surprised at the results of this poll, but then I realized it's not so surprising. It's just that the D20 fans seem very vocal, while there are very few actual foes. I'll bet most of the "No" votes come from folks like me, who don't hate D20, but don't love it either.

I finally voted on this magilla.

 I'm NOT a fan of D20.

However, if I ran into Pundit or some other name I recognized from online  forums at a convention in the midwest and they asked  me "Hey Ed, Do you want to join in on a pick-up D&D/D20 game ? "  If I had the 3 or 4 hours  to kill I 'd probably say:   "Sure , okay , let's concoct a quick character. " *

 NOT a 'fan" - but I don't hate it.

* - although if an oppurtunity for a TRAVELLER or GURPS game comes up at the same time at that same hypothetical convention  - sorry but D20 would lose out. OR, if I was told "Hey Ed, Duct tape girl has invited the Klingons here to a hut tub party"

I play Iron Heroes and I really like it. I also play WotC D&D 3.5, so I voted "Yes".

I like d20.

I enjoy playing D&D - that's a part of it.  I hadn't played in a long time when 3.0 came out, but I liked how the game had been changed, and gave it a try, and had a bunch of fun with it.

I also like a bunch of the 3rd party material.  I've got a lot of Atlas' modules and supplements, I've got M&M, BESM d20, the d20 Toolkit, and a mix of other books.  I could probably stop buying new material and be able to play for another 30 years on what I've got now. :)

I play other games at times too, btw.  I've got enough GURPS and HERO books to throw your back out. :)

Balbinus

No.

I think it's great game design, but I don't actually much like it for all that.

Pundit wanted a yes/no answer, mine is no.

Absolutely, system may matter but it matters far less than fun people to play with.  I may not be a fan, but I'd play it with decent people in a heartbeat.

No. I've played good games of D20, and I don't dislike it, but I wouldn't go as far as calling myself a fan.
My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

I don't agree with this.

I have played games that had really crappy mechanics and even though I was gaming with people that I usual game with (and have fun with) the game really brought us down.

So we ended up giving up on the game and started playing something else.

IMO there's no wrong system only the wrong players to play the system with.

Of course, some players are just wrong, whatever the system.

Nope...I'm a White Wolf fan(especially nWoD and Scion), and proud of it.  Though I do play C&C and even less D&D on occasion.

We will have to agree to disagree on this point.

I have gamed with some really good gamers and if the system is bad there is nothing you can really do about a poorly designed game.  You can give it a try, but at least in my experience you end up abandoning the game.

I don't know what you mean by "good" gamers...but yeah, it's probably just better to disagree.

Edit : Sorry BD my post kind of sounds like a parting shot, it wasn't supposed to be.
