This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Poll: Are you a D20 Fan?

Games like Iron Heroes, Mutants & Masterminds, True20 and Castles and Crusades have won me over to the adaptability and robustness of d20/OGL in the last couple of years, so I'd consider myself a fan.

Quote from: ImperatorNo. I've played good games of D20, and I don't dislike it, but I wouldn't go as far as calling myself a fan.

The wording of the poll is a bit tricky, as "fan" is a loaded word that goes beyond the people who "like" d20 (that'd be me). In any case, I ended up voting Yes.

Pundit, refine your wording next time! :teacher:

In general, I am a d20 System fan.  I like D&D 3.5, the d20 version of Call of Cthulhu, liked 3.0, and I appreciate Spycraft, Arcana Unearthed/Evolved, Iron Heroes as well as Mutants & Masterminds.  I rather enjoyed the d20 version of Legend of the Five Rings, and I miss the quirkly little-known PDF game that my friend Scott Lynch once designed and published: Deeds Not Words.

I'm do not care for Blue Rose, and I am ambivalent about True20.  I am amongst the majority in disliking The Foundation: A World in Black & White, the d20 versions of Deadlands and its World War II cousin, and many of the Mongoose titles are hit-or-miss with me.  (B5, Conan, Judge Dredd and Armageddon 2086 are okay; Slaine does nothing for me, and the same is true of WARS; I am ambivalent about Starship Troopers.)

I like many of the meant-for-use-with-D&D third-party products, especially those of Necromancer Games and early Green Ronin Publishing, and some of the Sword & Sorcery Studios products find favor with me.  Legends of the Samurai and Legends of Excalibur are interesting, but aren't likely to be used as-written with me.  d20 Modern and Star Wars are good enough for me, sometimes preferable to the options.  The rest is mostly a big miss.

Lacrioxus

I like M&M2e somewhat I must admitt. Iron Heroes though I really like.

Malleus Arianorum

I like d20 but I'm not a fan. Each purchase has to earn my respect. Anyway I mainly like d20 because everyone else is doing it. If they were jumping of a bridge? Me too.

Edit : Sorry BD my post kind of sounds like a parting shot, it wasn't supposed to be.

David,

What I mean are players that are great gamers who I have fun gaming with on virtually every game I play.  They we play a game with a bad set of game mechanics and the game mechanics get in the way.

Sure, we could houserule the game but it's just easier to drop the game and move on to something with a better ruleset.   That's what happened when I ran Palladium's games way back when.

Hackmaster

I'd consider myself a fan, especially after checking out the new Star Wars game.

I don't necessarily "prefer" d20 over other systems, or vice versa, I like a variety.

As ever a good post BCW, but I have to say I did laugh when I read the first line.

Um yes, in general you do come across as a bit of a d20 fan.

If it was a question of the OGL, I would have voted 'Yes.'

As it is, 'No' noses out 'Yes' by a cunt-hair.
Don\'t forget rule no. 2, noobs. Seriously, just don\'t post there. Those guys are nuts.

Speak your mind here without fear! They\'ll just lock the thread anyway.

I voted NO , but then again I'd willing to sit in and play with D20 bunch of layers...IF I knew a couple of the players already.
Sometimes its more important WHO you are gaming with than what set of game mechanics you are using.

I voted no. I use Fudge for everything.

Though I may be looking for an alternative for an upcoming game I'll be running through VoIP.
