Attention all,
This is the authorized thread in which you are allowed to advertise for your gaming special event (con, etc) and put advertisements up for your FLGS (that's "friendly local gaming store"; in case there's someone out there who still doesn't know).
This is the only place where blatant ads are permitted, but of course this being theRPGsite and not some other site, we'll be pretty liberal about you choosing to pimp your wares/place/event in other threads, so long as it doesn't turn into blatant spamming, off topic thread-derailing, or an overall annoyance.
So, "ad" away...
RPGPundit
This is what I have from the RPG Organizer so far.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
//www.YourGamesNow.com Open for Business
(Dallas, Tx; January 1, 2007) Your Games Now LLC has launched a cooperatively-run web site where publishers sell electronic products designed with tabletop gaming in mind, found at //www.YourGamesNow.com.
"YourGamesNow.com is a wonderful opportunity for publisher and customer alike," says Joseph Browning, President of Your Games Now LLC. "Publishers have a financial stake in the health of the site through profit-sharing, and customers know every purchase benefits not only the company that produced the material, but every company at the site. When the site performs well as a whole, every individual publisher on the site does better. This means customers are supporting publishers more-directly and that results in continued creation of exciting gaming material. Shopping at YourGamesNow.com is almost like buying direct from each and every publisher selling on the site."
Mr. Browning further explained, "There is no other site where company A makes more money on the products they sell because a customer purchased a product from company B. I think this kind of cooperative profit-sharing will result in better products. Competition is always good for a customer because it results in more products to choose from, and for the first time, that same competition is also beneficial to publishers through profit-sharing. At YourGamesNow.com, cooperation and competition are not exclusive. By providing their publishers a direct voice in the management of the site, YourGamesNow.com ensures that what's good for the site is also good for the publishers and, therefore, customers."
At launch, customers can find products from the following companies: ØOne Games, Arion Games, ComStar Media LLC, Dog Soul Publishing, Expeditious Retreat Press, Fiery Dragon Productions, Goodman Games, Hinterwelt Enterprises, Ki Ryn Studios, Majestic Twelve Games, Misfit Studios, Victory by Any Means Games, and The Le Games. Our team at Fouruglymonsters.com has decided to help move the gaming industry forward by producing an internet gaming convention on March 24 & 25 of this coming year. This has been done before so you may ask why we would attempt this venture, the reason is simple.
We see the future in online gaming, specifically Virtual Gaming Table applications such as Fantasy Grounds, MapTool, Battlegrounds, Kloogle.Werks, and others out there. These applications push the envelope of gaming and bring gaming to a large gaming audience already present on the web. It is also ushering a large return of those gamers who have moved on in their lives, now have a family and cannot get away for the weekly game. These 'mid-life' gamers are looking for ways to reconnect with their friends and their beloved hobby. These applications are enabling them and creating strong growth in the industry.
Along with the virtual gaming table applications, the recent growth of applications geared directly for gamers has increased. Applications such as PCGen, Dundjinni, Campaign Cartographer, Redblade, and e-Tools have ushered in a great new era of gaming, providing gamers with previously unknown power to unleash their creativity.
Already we have seen a stunning amount of support from many of the developers behind these applications and many have pledged support in the form of free products for door prizes, demonstrations of their applications, interviews with the development staff, and advertising on their websites.
Our mission statement:
Our goal is to bring attention to the various Virtual Game Table and Gaming software products available to gamers wanting to capture the feel of live role-playing games when separated by physical boundaries.
Please check out the convention's official site at iconvention.org (http://iconvention.org/)
Everything's Free at Animalball Games!
After many months of studying the market, spending dozens of dollars on various demographic studies, and reviewing the balances in their checking accounts, Animalball Games (http://www.animalball.com) has decided to start offering its products for free download. Games that had previously been for sale through RPGNow, like the Steadfast Shield and Sandbox Hill, are now available for free download.
Animalball Co-Founder Kyle Jones stated, "We stuck with a 'traditional' business model for nearly two years, but realized we just weren't making any money selling pdfs of our games through the internet. After consulting with some of the greatest entrepreneurs in the rural midwest, we decided to go to a radically different business model-- volume, volume, volume. Our advisors concluded that we could move far more product if we reduced the price. We figured that nothing's lower than free, so we can really expect to move large volumes of product under our new business model."
Animalball's other Co-Founder, Mike Jones, added, "We're still creating great roleplaying games and over the next few weeks we'll roll out several more games that were originally intended for retail. But we decided that getting people to actually play our games was more important than making money. We decided that we do this because we enjoy it, not because we want to get rich from it."

Grand Tribunal 2007
Saturday November 17th
Cheltenham, UK
A Festival of Ars Magica
Including a freeform ars larp, ars boardgames, ars rpg sessions, medieval music and food and a Ars raffle of rarities!
People are welcome to arrive on the Friday night, and I will ensure that those staying till Sunday have plenty to do, but the main events are on the Saturday. It's possibly the first Ars Magica dedicated rpg convention ever, unless you know better?
If you plan to come do sign up in the Planning to Attend thread! And do tell us your ideas or what you would like to see at the event.
Getting here
Trains from BRISTOL, CARDIFF and BIRMINGHAM are frequent, and all three have good AIRPORTS. A return railway ticket from these locations is currently about 18 Euro, and the trip takes under an hour and is simple with frequent trains. STANSTED and HEATHROW connect to Cheltenham via National Express coaches, but services are infrequent and difficult, and trains from London are expensive. From London Cheltenham is one and a half to two hours via car - M4 to Swindon turn off, then Cirencester, then Cheltenham. By bus there are many cut price deals available, and hopefully lifts can be arranged via the website when I get that far...
Accomodation
There will be some sleeping bag only floorspace accommodation for those happy to rough it, but very good hotel accommodation can be had for 60 euros a night, including breakfast. Bed & Breakfast is much cheaper, starting at around 22 Euros a night.
Planned Itinerary - subject to change
Friday 16th - Ars Pub Meet - down the pub to talk Ars, with a folk band, a storyteller, and good real ale! Gaming space available.
Saturday 17th --GRAND TRIBUNAL
Morning session 10am - 1pm - gaming space, board games, medievalist talks, general discussion!
Lunch 1-2pm
Afternoon Session 2.30pm till 7.30pm
Choose from
* Ars rpg sessions
* Ars board games
* Ars Freeform Tribunal LARP
8pm Late Dinner - with Ars Panel discussion! Harass authors as they eat! Throw bread rolls at them for what they did to your fave house or tribunal! Also the Raffle for Ars and Atlas rarities is drawn
9pm till late - the Night session
Late night gaming, singing of Festive songs down the phone to David Chart , burning of authors you don't like in effigy, beer, and well Ars Magica or other Atlas games!
Sunday Morning - the hangover session
8am till 12 noon - last minute gaming, meet for breakfast and general shopping for neglected WAGS and S'O's. Or last minute rpg gaming - you decide!
The official line for our new stuff:
Four for the price of one! That's right:four simultaneous releases from Animalball Games (http://www.animalball.com). And they're all for the price of one-- nothing! Because everything's free at Animalball Games.
We've done a little housecleaning here at Animalball, and found a few tidbits tucked under the sofa cushions. These are four items that have been around forever here at Animalball, but for one reason or other have never become a full release:
Hero Battle
Bulldrek, the RPG
God's Dice
Legacy of Justice (http://www.animalball.com/features03032007.htm)
Hero Battle: Hero Battle is a forum-based game of cutthroat strategy for eight or more players. The rules are deceptively simple—however game play is anything but.
Bulldrek, the RPG: Once upon a time, there was a free and untamed forum called Bulldrek. In its early days, Bulldrek was home to some of the most bizarre and wondrous group storytelling experiences ever. Bulldrekkers collaborated in seemingly haphazard fashion to cobble together stories of wild fantasy that crossed all genres and respected no boundaries. It seemed that the Bulldrek characters were drawn to destroy and humiliate each other at every turn, and yet somehow mostly-coherent tales emerged from the jumble. Great legends and everlasting inside jokes were born, gods walked amongst the Bulldrek, and everyone... everyone... had a good time. This is the face-to-face version of that game. (Age appropriate beverages not included.)
God's Dice: "God does not play dice with the universe." –Albert Einstein
Very simply, God's Dice is the greatest unfinished sci-fi campaign world ever! Emphasis is on "unfinished." The God's Dice campaign world is my take on the solar system 1,000 years in the future, in a setting where faster-than-light travel is still just fantasy, and despite finding itself still alone in the lonely universe, mankind has managed to diversify itself into a stunning array of forms. Mostly a collection of notes and conversations, this unfinished document is being shared for all who might take inspiration from it.
Legacy of Justice: Just like God's Dice, this one is very much a work in progress. Legacy of Justice is the second of Mike's unfinished worlds. As he says, "It started from just three words: my brother called me up one day and said, 'I've got it! I know what our next project needs to be: Post-apocalyptic superheroes!' Okay... so maybe post-apocalyptic is only one word. But anyway, I was blown away. So here we've collected snippets of description that give a feel for this shattered earth."

LEVI IS DISTRIBUTING A GAME BY ONLINE MEME...
Most books and games are distributed by means of stores. Some through online publication. This, right here, is an attempt at distribution-by-online-meme. The "leaf" picture above is a clickable link; if you click on it, you will download a PDF book. The book is an extremely simple, introductory tabletop roleplaying game entitled Microcosm, one meant to show the reader through play what a tabletop roleplaying game is, and to show off a few little ideas to people who already play such games. To use it, you'll need at least one other person to play with, though a total of 3-4 people is usually best. You'll also need a pen or pencil, some paper, and a bowl full of tokens (poker chips, pennies, whatever). The game is in all ways free of charge.
...AND HE'D APPRECIATE YOUR HELP
Naturally, this is both a bit of an attention grab for the game being distributed, and a bit of an attempt to find out if distributing something in this way is even remotely viable. So, if it strikes you as a neat idea, or you like this particular introduction to tabletop roleplaying, or you just want to use it as a conversation piece, please copy this entry into your online space. The picture above is remotely located at:
http://members.shaw.ca/LeviK/MicroIcon.jpg
And the link leads to:
http://members.shaw.ca/LeviK/MicroCosm.pdf
If you're willing to copy this meme, please use that same picture and link. If you don't like spreading memes, fair enough; mentioning this attempt, and linking back to it, would be very much appreciated as well.

Tired of your players walking into a bar and seeing the same salty-talking, gruff tavernkeeper that they saw in the last town, and the town before it, and the town before that? You know the routine: players walk in, approach the barkeep and then roll a Gather Information check to see what they can learn. Boring.
Animalball Games (http://www.animalball.com) has the answer for you: 50 Bar Encounters (http://www.animalball.com/games.html). How about the next time they enter a bar they find themselves in the middle of a brazen, halfling robbery with Beads of Force being thrown around like candy? Or maybe they will be approached by an earnest, desperate individual who is eager to sell them a medusa head. Or quite possibly they will be harassed by two large Yak Folk that will not stop spitting spitballs at the players when their backs are turned.
Animalball Games is proud to release its newest product for free download-- 50 Bar Encounters. Developed under the OGL, 50 Bar Encounters is exactly what the name says- 50 encounters to use in your D&D or fantasy campaign. Each encounter is a brief, short encounter to throw into your existing campaign, so short and entertaining, others deadly serious which can be expanded into entire sidequests if desired.
You can download 50 Bar Encounters from our downloads page here (http://www.animalball.com/games.html).

What happens when your barbarian gets his foot cut off by a critical hit from a brigand? What's the appropriate level of irritation you should have towards Wizards for not renewing the license for Dungeon and Dragon magazine? What's the proper response when a group of children assault your party outside the local tavern? Is it possible to play a game when you wait to randomly determine the genre, setting, plot and tech level until twenty minutes before you play?
These are the kinds of important questions being answered by Animalball Game's (http://www.animalball.com) official podcast, the Animalcast (http://animalball.libsyn.com/). Join Mike and Kyle on their weekly exploration all things dork: roleplaying, comics, nerd television and Sheila's panty shot in the first episode of the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon.

Quoted For Truth

Did you just quote yourself for truth? Really?
Quote from: Animalball BraskyDid you just quote yourself for truth? Really?
I always believe in my own truth. Really.
I know there's a number of Illinois folks here so I thought I'd mention the Chicago Gameday is coming up! You can find all of the details here:
http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=195209
But to highlight, our very own HinterWelt will be running one of his games. I'm sure he'll be here to talk about it :) But in any case his writeup is right here:
http://www.enworld.org/showpost.php?p=3552946&postcount=159
There's no writeup for it yet, but the classic Gamma World module, Famine in Far-Go, using the True20 ruleset is going to be run by the GM of my weekly game! He's quite good so be sure to consider his game.
Right now I'm leaning towards the Spirt of the Century game in the AM and either the Aces & Eights game or the Black Company d20 in the PM. Sorry HW, but the Roman thing just isn't my bag :(
The signups for Chicago Gameday have begun! Go to this thread at ENWorld:
http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=198044
Have a read at the games' writeups, decide what you want to play and sign up. Pending approval, I'll be in the Spirit of the Century game in the AM and the Aces & Eights game in the PM.
It'll be fun!
-Pete
Holy Crap! I might be able to make that!
I hafta check the kids baseball schedule, but I think we're done playing by then...
Might get to meet you and Bill after all...
And were you kdding about Mr. Cook? That would be....interesting...

Speaking of which, the new Aces & Eights website (http://www.kenzerco.com/aces_n_eights/index.html) is up! ;)
Quote from: James J SkachAnd were you kdding about Mr. Cook? That would be....interesting...
No, Monte's really going to be there. In fact he'll be playing in the Gamma World/True20 game that my buddy is going to run. No pressure there :)
And my name's Pete in case you make it and feel like hanging out with any NON-game designers...
My name is Frank...*
Are you kidding? I plan on hanging out, if I go, with only non-designers. Like Hinter...oh..wait...nevermind...
My wife wanted to have a garage sale that weekend. I said "Great, I won't be there Saturday." So I've laid the groundwork.
* After review, that would be amusing. To have your fake Internet personna be a real-sounding name. Like, John Michael Howel or something when your name is Frank Meskowicz. ** alas, I am just Jim.***
** On further review, it's not that amusing.
*** think Pundy will let me change my name again? To Just Jim?
I'm all signed up.
D&D in the morning, Roma in th Afternoon!
You know, I really should check this thread more often. :o
Just to keep folks updated, I have three pregens done and three more in the works.
Titus Julius Silanus, Optio of the Third Cohort of the Legio IV Vitrix (39 K PDF (http://roma.hinterwelt.com/GD/Titus.pdf))
Aulus Ancius Celer, Magus, (35 K PDF (http://roma.hinterwelt.com/GD/Aulus.pdf))
Cammius, Medicus, (32 K PDF (http://roma.hinterwelt.com/GD/Cammius.pdf))
As always, more info at The HinterWelt Game Day Page (http://roma.hinterwelt.com/RIGD-ref.html).
Thanks,
Bill
Weee! This Saturday - and the Garage Sale has been posponed, so no guilty feelings!
Bill - you going to be there all day? Does Curt have copies of RI and SA!?
I might spend some money on other than snacks...
PS - I'm scared. I've never done this kind of experimentation before, Bill. Will you help guide me through?

I will be there in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I live a chunk of change from Games Plus and would hate to be late to an event in the morning.
Last time I checked he had SA!, Roma and Turris Lemurum.
Don't worry about learning the system. Believe me, once you sit down and play a bit, you will be "Wow! This is just like (indsert your fav game) but different!". It seems to happen a lot. ;)
And besides, I like helping my players have fun. The system should not stand in the way whether it is mine or another system.
Bill

Great! This means you'll be early for the afternoon game, right? ;)

Roma just might find a way into my things...before the game even...
Looking forward to it!

Over in the Amber/Wujcik Forum I've been listing some of the events I run in the San Francisco Area. Here's the latest:
Quote from: Erick WujcikFrom mid-July to mid-August I'm going to be running a bunch more role-playing sessions in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Very few responses so far, and the window of opportunity is getting smaller.
Anyone interested in playing with me, sometime in the next three weeks, somewhere here in the San Francisco Bay Area, should get in touch pretty soon.
Just send me a message here at the therpgsite.com forum, and be sure to send me your e-mail.
Quote from: Erick Wujcik...already scheduled is a three-part campaign of Quantum Time, to take place on consecutive Saturdays, July 28th, August 4th and August 11th, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the GameScape Game Store in San Rafael.
As of a couple of days ago I had exactly three (3) people sign up the Quantum Time mini-campaign.

Animalball's Animalcast (http://animalball.libsyn.com) has released Episode 15: Nerds in Movies! The guys are back to form. In this episode the guys get involved in a serious and important disussion- the greatest movies to portray nerds in a good light, and the worst movies to portray nerds in a bad light. You think Anthony Michael Hall might be in some of these movies? You are probably right, but we refuse to give anything away, so you will just have to listen to the episode to find out.

This is the Cazcast! Mike and Kyle interview Caz Granberg-- better known as Cazmonster on the Animalball forums-- about his experience writing and selling his first major game, Covert Generations. But first, the guys put Caz on the Animalball Hotseat and task him with five difficult questions. You'll have to listen to figure out how superaids, poisoned kool-aide and zombie hitler work into it. And the guys finally answer the question of the most evil gamer in the world.

In a recent deal, Beyond Belief Games has agreed to its line of well-received role-playing games being revised and re-released by Forever People Digital Press, starting with Tales from The Wood (which received the "Happy Dwarf Award" in 2006).
This is an exciting deal for Forever People, who are expanding into the digital market and gives Beyond Belief Games the time to devote to what it does best - that is produce some interesting and wonderful role-playing games.
The deal also looks likely to mean that the excellent Barbarians of Lemuria RPG will finally get a complete makeover and expansion, making it one of the finest sword & sorcery role playing games available. It is possible that the deal will involve a full print release of the game.

That actually sounds pretty cool. I read BoL recently when The Good Assyrian mentioned it. I'm not all that big on Thongor but the rules and setup would be good for capturing most sword and sorcery.
Just letting the Minnesota gamers here know that a new store opened up last week.
Tower Games is now open in south Minneapolis. It's located on 48th and Nicollet.
Go check it out. :D

Just in case folks have missed it in the Game Design forum, i'm looking for people to engage in a limited playtest of Stone Horizons. You can find details on the game in said game design forum. Back end of next week, i'll be looking to send stuff out to interested parties. :) PM me if you are interested.
Well, the playtest document is ready sooner than i expected (due to one omission, but for the purposes of this first 'test-drive', the info will more than surfice).
Intrigingly, apart from Clash, no one has come forward for the playtest. Seems more people want to work on the game than try it out! :D
So, all is ready for you. If you want to give it a go, you know what to do! :)
In Episode 22 of the Animalcast, Mike and Kyle begin their experiment in reviewing movies so bad that they are good. Using user suggestions from the website, the guys watch the first three movies in this episode, including Snakes on a Plane, Plan 9 From Outer Space, and Deathrace 2000. Kyle also makes a shocking announcement about a lifestyle choice he has been hiding from everyone, and Mike bitches at Kyle over the shownotes.
Link (http://animalball.libsyn.com).
In Episode 23, Mike and Kyle conclude their discussion of movies so bad they are good. The final three movies are Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311361/), Sophie's Choice (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084707/), and The Stink of Flesh (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0378808/). Kyle also gives a Rizzob in the Hizzouse to the inventor of nicotene lozenges and Mike continues to try to answer the unanswerable question- what can brown do for you?

Is this the game I was unable to join at GenCon? Can you handle me for another game, Bill? And in this one, I'll be lost as I've never played a sci-fi game before (OK, who didn't try Gamma World way back when, but that doesn't count).
In fact, this is what I was going to put in the "What games do you suck at" thread.
I should get over there and sign up after clearance from the tower....

Dude...there are...like...5 D&D 3.5 games being run :D
And yeah, I did see the..what is it...break-up game...Who's Fault Was It or some such...it is definitely a...ummm...broader mix. I was thinking about getting in on that DitV game just to see how it runs. But it conflict with Neb, I think, and Bill wins that contest hands down.

Yep! This is Operation Obelisk that never got off the ground at GenCon. As for not having played sci-fi before, do not sweat it. When I wrote Nebuleon I had guys like you in mind. Fantasy players who like sci-fi and want to try it out. We will see if I was successful. ;)

As it's my first cover credit, i thought i'd pimp the new systemless Freeport supplement...
Over on the Freeport blog we've posted the final cover for Cults of Freeport. Check it out at:
http://greenronin.com/freeport/
The Cults of Freeport PDF will be out soon, with the print version following next month.
Cults of Freeport
A Freeport Sourcebook
Authors: Steve Darlington, Jody Macgregor, Robert J. Schwalb, Dan White, and Chris Williams
Format: 144 pages, softback
MSRP: Print $24.95, PDF $13.50
Product Code: GRR1905
ISBN: 1-932442-88-X
On the surface Freeport is a pirate city gone legit, but in reality it is still a place of terrible secrets, foul plots, and dreadful gods. Cults of Freeport peels back the façade of the City of Adventure to take an unflinching look at its most disturbing denizens. This sourcebook describes a dozen despicable cults in lavish detail, from their goals and motivations to their tactics and impact on the city. In addition, each entry includes an overview of cult's membership and recruitment policies, as well as a myriad of plot frameworks to help you feature these groups in adventures of your own design. As with The Pirate's Guide to Freeport, Cults of Freeport does not include game statistics of any kind, so you can use it with the RPG of your choice. The Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign was just the beginning. Learn the unspeakable truth about the city's corruption in Cults of Freeport!
In Episode 25, the guys answer more viewer mail. But first, Mike has a surprise guest jump on the microphone for an impromptu interview. Simply put, it is the biggest name guest on the show yet. The guys answer questions related to the ongoing war between ninjas and pirates, their favorite Dungeons and Dragons settings, the new Pathfinder series from Paizo Publishing and technical issues asked by a loyal listener. Listener Daki poses a new game which the guys stumble through, but then request help from the listening audience. They have a request related to their Ron Weasley for Muggle President 2008 prank, and in response to another listener questions they speculate on Dungeons and Dragons 4.0. And finally, Kyle responds to the vicious attacks on him from the Reel Horror Podcast.
Link (http://animalball.libsyn.com)
In Episode 26 (http://animalball.libsyn.com), the guys try to talk about Heroscape (http://www.hasbro.com/games/kid-games/heroscape/), the miniature-style wargame by Hasbro. But they get sidetracked by a lot of side issues. First they offer some expensive comics (http://www.transmetropolitan.com/) in return to anyone that can provide a good, original theme song. They talk about Kyle's bad haircut (http://www.animalball.com/images/Braskyshorn.JPG) and what not to tell your barber. Mike goes on about how much he loves Allen Varney (http://www.allenvarney.com/) and Paranoia XP (http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/rpg/series.php?qsSeries=19). Mike and Kyle also talk about Paizo Publishing (http://www.paizo.com)'s Critical Hit Deck (http://paizo.com/gameMastery/accessories/v5748btpy7wv9), and their new Pathfinder books (http://paizo.com/store/byCompany/p/paizoPublishingLLC/gameMastery/pathfinder) for Dungeons and Dragons 3.5. Kyle gets nearly orgasmic reviewing Paizo's current Rise of the Runelords (http://paizo.com/store/paizoExclusives/v5748btpy7zf2&source=search) adventure arc.
Finally the guys get around to talking about the subject at hand. Both Mike and Kyle have been playing Heroscape for many years with their kids and have loved the game since it first came out. The guys talk about the basics of the game, the low cost of getting into it, the ease of rules, and epic battles they have waged. They discuss the merits of having Snake Warriors fighting Futuristic Robot Warriors fighting the Hulk and Spiderman. Kyle promises in the show to link to some sample maps from the animalball forums, but when typing up the show notes decides it is just too much trouble. Just kidding (http://www.animalball.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=680).
Link to Podcast (http://animalball.libsyn.com).
Over at the Hoard blog (http://hoard-rpg.blogspot.com/), I've started putting up daily sample and reference pages that can be downloaded.
Here's an example: The Fledgling (http://members.shaw.ca/LeviK/DailyDragon1.pdf)
The idea goes like this - if you're already a stakeholder, these are updates to keep you posted on progress. If you're not, they're a promotion...
...And once I get to the ashcan, they'll become download-and-print rules handouts for character creation, so that you can have everything about your character printed off in a tidy stack.

This has been out in pdf for a while and the print version is coming soon. Here's a bit more detail on the cults within the covers...
The Brotherhood of the Yellow Sign: A foul group of madmen devoted to the horrific Unspeakable One.
The Priesthood of Yig: The ancient religion of the lost Valossan Empire that seeks to find its place in a world dominated by lesser races.
The Lost Souls of Yarash: Bloodthirsty pirates that butcher innocents to glorify their bloody-handed god.
The Esoteric Order of Starry Wisdom: A hidden cabal of wizards behind Freeport's Wizards' Guild who search for the power contained within the elusive Azoth Stone.
Scions of the Destroyer: A filthy cult of demon-worshippers, they strive to release Abaddon from the Bottomless Pit and usher in the final age of the world.
The Charnel Children: A ghoulish pack of cannibal children led by a muttering lunatic devoted to the bestial Charnel God.
The Society of the Velvet Whip: Deviants dedicated to the exploration of pleasure and pain, they infest Freeport and erode its morality with their excess.
The Obsidian Brotherhood: A strange cell of killers and scholars united in their thirst for the knowledge contained within the fragments of a being known only as the Wanderer.
My sections of the book are the Scions of the Destroyer and The Obsidian Brotherhood chapters.
ABG Releases Instant Game Full Version for Free Download.
Animalball Games is proud to announce that it has completed it's magnum opus, Instant Game, and is releasing the RPG for free download on its website (http://www.animalball.com/games.html). Want to play a traditional fantasy wizard trapped in a modern world populated by superheroes? We've got that. How about far future elves trying to survive on a dying planet slowly being eaten by the Dark Lords of the void dimension? We've got that too. How about a Ben Franklin clone trained in drunken monkey fighting battling his way through an underground middle-earth dungeon? Yup.
What is Instant Game? Instant Game is a tool for creating and playing new RPG settings on the spot. With the Instant Game charts and our flexible Instant Game rules set, you can roll up a completely original setting and plot, create and develop characters "on the fly," and be ready to roleplay in just a matter of minutes. We know that seems incredible on its surface, but it is also a wonderfully real possibility. Instant Game is painless, as well as being some of the most exciting and challenging gaming you'll find.
A lot of roleplaying games claim to be "pick up and play" games. They're full of it, because Instant Game is the real deal.
How does it work? The steps to creating an Instant Game are simple:
1) The GM rolls on the tables to get the Instant Setting and Instant Plot elements.
2) The GM and players put the Instant Setting elements together to create a coherent world.
3) The GM assembles the Instant Plot elements into a workable storyline.
4) The players create Instant Characters based on our simple character creation rules.
5) Then play.
We're not kidding about this. Get your gaming group together with no preparation whatsoever ahead of time. Throw some dice, consult our Instant Tables, and in 30 minutes or so, you can have a complete and novel roleplaying setting ready to roll, with a plot and characters and everything. It's surprisingly a lot simpler than you think.
Clocking in at nearly 100 pages, the Instant Game pdf is the full version of the game. We're not making any money off this product, we've just had a crapload of a good time playing it and wanted to share it with everyone else. All we ask is that if you download it and like it, post up on our message boards (http://www.animalball.com/forums/) or email us at instantgame@animalball.com and let us know what kinds of different games you ended up playing.
We know that nothing in this press release will convince you that Instant Game is cool or innovative. You have to play it to really understand why we think this is the best thing we've played in years. So go download it, enjoy it, and then let us know what you think. It's free, and it's awesome, and you'll thank us for it later.
Click here to visit Animalball Game's download page to get a free copy of Instant Game. (http://www.animalball.com/games.html)
Animalball Games is a small, independent publisher of free, unique games that do not fit the traditional mold of "mainstream" rpgs. When developing its products, ABG heavily depends on the assistance of its online community to give feedback, input and playtesting help. It is ABG's philosophy that the best games are those developed by the gamers themselves.
Cults of Freeport - Out now!
Just here to pimp the local game store, Imperial Hobbies (http://www.imperialhobbies.ca/) in Richmond, BC! They were having their annual Boxing Day sale (25% off everything, plus more markdowns on specific items, and I went a bit nuts), which always has big lineups. They actually had doughnuts for the people waiting in line to pay for stuff! How cool is that? (Yeah, sticky foodstuffs and rather expensive printed material might be a dangerous combination, but if you're in line you've already decided what you're buying and you're gonna be careful, right?)
I'll be running an event at the OSFES Game Day (http://www.osfes.org/GameDay1.htm) this Saturday Jan 19th, 2008. It's the GURPS Traveller game.
I'm going to try and be there all day and may run impromptu sessions if opportunity allows.
Apologies for the short notice.

OSFES Game Day 3 (http://www.osfes.org/GameDay.htm) will be March 15th. I'm planning on running a GURPS traveller game, a TMNT game and one other thing, yet to be decided.
Any suggestions? I'm also considering doing TMNT character gen at the event, I'm not sure if it's a good idea though...
Here's hoping that some/any of you can make it.

In Episode 39 of the Animalcast, the guys address more questions from the listening audience about gaming with small kids, whether D&D 3.5 is an appropriate starter system for kids (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons), and differences between girls and boys in beginning gaming. As is becoming increasingly more common, they bicker about who is monopolizing the show time and Mike throws a hissy fit. After they get that sorted out, Kyle explains the mystery of why his entire house smells like urine every night, and Mike babbles about some boring stuff the intern could not remember to put in to the show notes. They both review the movie 1408 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450385/) and talk about the last time either of them cried at a movie.

Tricky Owlbear Publishing, Inc. is pleased to bring you the 38th issue of the Behind the Spells series: Sanctuary. This series examines those spells from the SRD that are listed time and again on character sheets throughout gaming. These are the spells which, if on your PC's class list, will be taken as soon as possible and include such quintessential favorites as magic missile and fireball.
Each pdf in this series examines the spellcaster who created the spell, one or more of the spell's hidden capabilities, and variant ideas that the spell has inspired throughout history (spells, items, etc.). This release includes two spell secrets and two new magic items: Safebox and Sanctuary Marker!

That's just the title for my Castles & Crusades adventure I'm going to run at Origins this year. what follows is the player's intro;
It's Good to be the King...
Player's Introduction
The ambush was going so well. Everything had worked out as planned, right up until the last....
It was cool, partly cloudy, and the sun shone strongly on the forest. Maybe we should have known on account it was too clear. Merrill had positioned the archers on the small ridge-like hill to to cover the road, and it was well covered. Over thirty bows, three wizards, and a sorcerer had the narrow ruts covered that the coaches and wagons would have to travel through. The trees had been cut down blocking passage through the narrowed path that cut through the thick groves of trees.
Back up the trail Garghan, and his band, had struck the first blow, at first attacking the caravan of coaches and wagons from behind to spur them through the canyon. Then he released the Ogre, and the big brute went to work, and had done his job well. Rolling huge boulders into the chasm, effectively blocking the coaches and wagons from returning. The Ogre then took off in pursuit of the fleeing caravan, hurling both horse and rider set to block his way, off the path and into the forest, in his zeal to catch up with the wagons. The rearguard scattered before the raging giant. Garghan's blockade at the canyon would hold at least until the patrols would show up, looking for the missing prince.
Ahead further down the trail, a sizable group of the Black Eagles were posted to deter anyone from entering the valley from the West, at least until the prince could be spirited away to the encampment, to be held for ransom.
The actual battle was short, at least what we remember of it... The cavalry guard came first, flying down the trail, and they swept around the blockade in the road, and wheeled into the forest where the trees had been cut down. The traps were effective and maybe half lost their horses almost immediately. The downed cavalrymen retreated taking cover behind the fallen trees in the road. The remainder of the cavalry was quickly lost from sight in the dense forest undergrowth. Then came the four coaches and two wagons of the caravan. They hurled to a halt approaching the first of the fallen trees. Everything went quiet for a few seconds, and that's when everything went bad.
The Prince was there, but well armed and well-armored soldiers came out of the coaches, and from underneath the tarps in the wagon. Worse than that, one of the Royal Wizards was riding in one of the coaches, and he had an entourage of court mages with him. Someone had tipped off the prince. The last thing I remember is hearing the advance guard cavalry sweeping through the woods to our left charging, and seeing the Royal wizard in the distance pointing a crooked wand at us.
The Kick in the midsection really hurt!
“Wake up you lazy oaf!”
It was Ellri Swordhand, The rogue.
My head swooned. Everything spun, and I felt a bit ill, almost nauseous. It took a few moments for me to gather my wits and vision. As the strength drained back into my limbs I looked around. The sun was still shining, it was late afternoon though, as the sun now hung low in the west, just over the horizon. It was cooler out than I remembered, and more damp as well. I swore I could smell the ocean, but that just didn't seem right, you see, we were more than one hundred miles from the nearest ocean.
I looked at everything immediately around me. We were in a small camp, maybe half a dozen of us. We were layed out around a campfire. Ellri stood over me, glaring. I spotted one of the prince's advanced horse guards laying unconscious just a few feet from where I was now in the process of sitting up.
“Where are we?” I half croaked, as I looked down again. I fumbled for my waterskin, found it, and took a deep draught.
“Don't rightly know.” Ellri Answered. “Mebbe they kin tell us.” Ellri pointed.
I looked up slower this time. Didn't want the stomache-knotting vertigo suddenly returning. They were lean, and big, swarthy and strong, wrapped in furs and hide, with painted faces. Some had tattoos. They stood about ten yards off, one every three or four paces around us. Each had at least one halfspear, some maybe two or three, and all had a sword of some sort, wrapped in a fur sheath, and a small or medium shield tied onto their back.
“Barbarians.” I muttered. Ellri nodded. I scooted over to where the unconscious royal guardsman lay, and gently removed his shortsword and longsword from their resting place. Quickly checking, confirming I had my personal weapons. There were four or five of us from the ambush here, not counting the horseman.
o0 Oh, Yes!. 0O
“How many?” I asked.
“Too many.” Ellri replied, he pointed to the east, and we could see the smokes of many many fires, along many burning campfires in the distance.
“We wait then.” I said.
We didn't wait long before the speaker came. Still, we had to tie up the horseman though, when he woke up. He was being unreasonable. The speaker looked like an elder, or shaman. He had two guards with him, when he came. One of the guards sets down a blanket near the fire that he sat down upon. While he busied himself folding his legs the other guard yelled, and the serving girls came. They brought us water in a big jug and poured it into wooden bowls for us. Then they brought us some fresh bread, and hoisted a spit over the campfire where they brought fresh meat and began roasting it. After we had each had a drink, the old man spoke. We couldn't understand him at first. His accent was archaic.
Then he cast a spell. His speech became clear.
“You have the taint of a dark sorcery hanging over you.” he said.
“Where are we?” I asked.
He looked and pointed east. “The endless sea is just a few hours walk from here.”
Ellri swore, then stifled a few more muttered curses. He looked at me. “That can't be. We are five hundred miles from the eastern ocean, must be some large lake the old speaker speaks of.”
The old speaker frowned. “No.” he said. “It is the endless sea. Tomorrow you will get to see it with your eyes. We travel there”
“What do you mean 'We' old man?” I asked
“I will remove the dark spirits that bind you to the dark sorcery, and you will return from whence you came, but first you must see that our King lives to see the next full moon.”
“And what if we don't?” I asked
The old man shrugged. “Then you walk home. As you friend says... (the old speaker holds up his hand to Ellri), five hundred miles. When you get away from the camp, my strength over the dark sorcery weakens and the dark sorcery will bring you all bad luck, and ill fates.”
He paused, and threw a few dryer sticks to feed the campfire. The meat was almost roasted now.
I pointed to the guards “What about them? Why are we prisoners?”
The old man nodded in disagreement. “You are no prisoner here, only an honored guest. We will not let you taint our peoples with your dark sorcery. You must be purified and blessed by our good spirits first, before being allowed to walk through our camps.”
“Why is the King in danger?” I asked
The old man sighed. “We are at war with another Barbarian king. If our king dies, we must join the other king, and he too carries a taint of the dark spirits, albeit different dark spirits, from the ones that would enslave you.”
The old man continued. “For now, let us eat, and rest for the next few days ahead will be full of challenges and dangers, no matter which path you choose to take...”
Ellri swore plenty for the next few minutes.

Hello everyone!
AmberCon Arizona will be hosted as part of the CopperCon 28 Gaming programming!
This is going down from Thursday August 28th through Sunday August 31st 2008. The location is Embassy Suites Scottsdale (which is still technically in Phoenix, Arizona, by the way :P ). Gaming will begin Thursday at 6pm and end on Sunday at 3pm.
Gaming will be hosted in the CopperCon Gaming room, which will be open 24hours.
Because this year we are running events as part of CopperCon 28, only a membership to that con is necessary to come play and run games, as well as enjoy all other programming that CopperCon has to offer this year. Our aim this year is to raise awareness of AmberCon and the ADRPG within the Arizona community. We are expecting to be a stand alone convention for next year. Please visit their website for membership pricing and additional information about the con. You can find it at http://www.casfs.org/cucon/
If there are GMs interested in running a game or if you wish to host games in 2-room suites rather than the common gaming room, feel free to contact me via email AmberConArizona@gmail.com so that I can organize room-sharing, game submissions, etc... (I was quoted at $139.99 per night for two room suites, including two queen beds, and a separate living room- in other words, 4 adults).
Come host or join a game, support the ADRPG community in Arizona and come have some diceless fun! There is a special rewards program for GMs... More details to come about that.

In episode 43, the guys get back to their gaming roots. In an effort to demonstrate just how out of touch they are with modern gaming, they decide to review the latest announcements in gaming news. It is a valiant effort, but Mike had to bail after 30 minutes so he could get into banter. But before the banter, they talk about a crazy sounding game called Sea Dracula (http://www.rpgnews.com/article.php?sid=6078), crappy press releases like the one for PCGen (http://www.rpgnews.com/article.php?sid=6074), the Fear the Boot interview with Erik Mona (http://www.rpgnews.com/article.php?sid=6073), The Lazy GM's book of 450 personalized Orcs (http://www.rpgnews.com/article.php?sid=6024), and Paizo's press release on the Pathfinder RPG (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG). Mike had some stories too, but was too lazy to bookmark them, so they did not get included in the shownotes. Random banter then included how the guys once almost got kicked out of a theme park due to their Mom's foul mouth, and limitless stories of their childhood friend, Billy Light, and his adventures in bodily functions.

In Episode 44, the guys interview James Jacobs, the editor-in-chief of the Pathfinder (http://paizo.com/pathfinder) adventure line at Paizo Publishing (http://www.paizo.com). The guys get into an indepth discussion of the ins and outs of the first Pathfinder adventure path, Rise of the Runelords (http://paizo.com/pathfinder/v5748btpy7zkr) including questions from Mike and Kyle's kids who are currently playing through the adventure arc. The guys try to figure out what it takes to coordinate the massive story lines and plot twists of Pathfinder's six-issue adventures. They also talk about the Pathfinder RPG (http://paizo.com/pathfinder/pathfinderRPG), what James thinks about the dicks at Wizards of the Coast (http://www.wizards.com) (our words, not his), how cool it is to get an adventure published in Dungeon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_magazine) at age 14, and how to exact your bitter revenge on Erik Mona (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erik_Mona). Finally, James undergoes the gauntlet of the Animalball Hotseat, answering the five hardest questions he's faced since taking the SAT.

Hi there!
I have been into role playing for about 10 years now and I know that there is nothing more rewarding than having your character take shape and look as you imagined. I feel that now I am up to a level in which I can draw good quality images, deign to represent other people's ideas.
If you would like to have your character drawn by me or maybe a memorable scene of a game, contact me at bandruid_meridene@yahoo.com, or you can PM me here.

Thanks and have a great campaign!
In Episode 46, the guys dedicate the entire hour to pitching new RPG ideas to each other. Over the past two weeks they have individually tried to develop a handful of original RPG ideas and are revealing them to each other on the podcast, then working together to flesh the ideas out. Mike first pitches a supers game with a unique take on what being a hero means. Then, inspired by the Sinister Adventures (http://www.sinisteradventures.com) podcast and his musings on Grand Theft Auto IV, Kyle comes up with a new Dungeons and Dragons supplement. Trying to develop a game that his kids can play, Mike pitches an idea based on cartoon premises and quasi-super powers. Finally, Kyle tries to make a fun, playable game that involves racism and genocide. Much to the guys' surprise, they both agree that he has.
Link to the podcast (http://animalball.libsyn.com).
In Episode 47, the guys continue with the second part of their RPG pitch experiment, where they pitch to each other secret ideas they've developed for games and try to flesh them out. But first, Kyle reveals a shocking controversy that he has only just discovered. On a tip from an anonymous source... one of his brothers, but not Boner... Kyle learned that a recent WotC (http://www.wizards.com) product contained an idea remarkably similar-- some would say identical-- to an idea he developed in March of 2004 and discussed publicly on the podcast last July. Kyle's lawyers have advised him not to make any accusations of intellectual property theft, so he is careful not to. But he does state a rather strong opinion about how the similarities between his idea of Gemini's Glade and the Father Llymic villain in WotC's Elder Evils (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/9780786947331) could potentially be explained. Kyle then pleads for the book's author, Robert J. Schwalb (http://www.pen-paper.net/rpgdb.php?op=showcreator&creatorid=9102), to come on the podcast to clear up the situation. So after half an hour of this nonsense, the guys pitch four ideas, two of which suck and two of which are awesome, but remarkably similar.
Link to the Podcast (http://animalball.libsyn.com).
Robert J. Schwalb is innocent! Click here for the update! (http://animalball.livejournal.com/31250.html).
I am having a contest (http://www.therpgsite.com/forums/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=10441) to drum up a little board interest for the Indy 500 (http://www.indy500.com/). Get a driver, and win a free RPG bundle!
In Episode 48 of the Animalcast (http://animalball.libsyn.com), the guys get to the bottom of the controversy stirred up in Episode 47. Specifically, they get the real answer as to the similarities between Father Llymic in WotC's Elder Evil's (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/9780786947331) supplemental book and Kyle's project, Gemini's Glade. It turns out it was a case of parallel development. In this indepth interview, the guys talk with Jason Bulmahn (http://www.pen-paper.net/rpgdb.php?op=showcreator&creatorid=11127), who authored the Father Llymic portion of Elder Evils. Kyle offers a full apology and retraction to both Jason and Robert Schwalb (http://www.pen-paper.net/rpgdb.php?op=showcreator&creatorid=9102). The guys then talk to Jason about his work on the Pathfinder RPG (http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG) rules for Paizo with Monte Cook as a consultant (http://www.montecook.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?splash). Jason talks about what it's like working with Monte, how good Monte smells and answers the burning question Kyle has been trying to get an answer to- does Monte ever ask about him (http://www.mancrush.com)? Jason also talks about working at Paizo, and they conclude the episode with a few choice words Kyle has for Nick Logue (http://www.pen-paper.net/rpgdb.php?op=showcreator&creatorid=9558) at Sinister Adventures (http://www.sinisteradventures.com). Jason predicts Kyle will be issuing a retraction and apology to Nick Logue in the near future.

World Adventure Writing Month 2008 is here! Check out the website at //www.woadwrimo.org to participate.
Worldwide Adventure Writing Month is a grassroots effort to motivate RPG fans to spend one month (July) writing a new adventure to share with the rest of RPG fandom. '07 was our first year and we got some great adventures to share with you, thanks to the efforts of Jay Hafner, Peter Seckler, Phil Winters, Gabor Lux, and Bobby Derie.
Whether you've never written an adventure before or have a hundred modules under your belt, why not join our effort to expand the pool of free stuff that GMs can use? WoAdWriMo doesn't require you to sign up and there are no crazy rules you have to follow. This website exists to cheer you on, to host your completed adventure if you want us to, and to help out in any way we can. Hit a snag in your adventure design? Got some writer's block? Want to share a cool bit you've come up with? Then swing by our forum and join the conversation!
But keep in mind WoAdWriMo isn't this blog or this site or the forum. And as your WoAdWriMo coordinator this month isn't about me. The website exists as a service to the real heart and soul of Worldwide Adventuring Month, and that's you. WoAdWriMo is about regular gamers having fun working on a challenging but not impossible task and then sharing their results. Please join us. Take the challenge to write and complete adventure in the month of July.
I hope that several talented people from here submit adventures. Yes, I'm looking at you Dr. Rotwang.
In Episode 52 of the Animalcast, the guys introduce their new Gamer Girl correspondent who is going to start providing game reviews for the podcast. Kyle also announces that July is World Adventure Writing Month (http://www.woadwrimo.org), and advises everyone to visit Jeff Rient's website and participate. The guys then conclude their discussion of online RPG gaming, including their experiences with WebRPG, GRiP, IRC gaming and unabashed speculation on Gleemax. In an extended divergence from the main topic, the guys also talk for a bit about D&D 4.0.

Hello,
Just wanted to let those out there that are looking for some cool "old school" RPG art along with character portraits at very reasonable prices know that we just got a site up and running that caters to just that....cool "old school" RPG art. If you have an idea for a piece of art, we can do it! Have a gaming party that has to be seen? We can do it! Have a memorable encounter during a campaign? With a good description, we can put it on paper or JPEG file for you! Take a look if you get a chance. Thanks!

aaaand its full.
Just a quick thanks to some of the members of this forum. The website is getting some strong momentum and the RPG products are moving; the reviews are helping, but the real success I think is that some of you have helped make it work through "word of mouth." Please keep this up!
Check the forum or the shop for more info, and to get more of an idea of what I'm talking about :) If you haven't done this yet, head on over!

Hey gang, I'm a new member but figured I'd pimp (late) a local mini-con, since I'm running a game there.
GameCon 2009 (this is the second year) is taking place in Aberdeen, MD (north of Baltimore) on April 17th & 18th.
http://www.freewebs.com/gamecon2009/
Prereg is closed; sorry for the late notice, but I wasn't even aware of this board back when I was doing my bit for advertising.
RPGs, board games, LARPs, a 40K tournament, video games, Cthulhu-themed saturday.
For my part, I'm running a comedy session, "Abe Lincoln and the Time-Travel All-Stars Versus the Brain-Eating Zombies of Dimension X". Friday at 3 for sure, probably on Saturday as well if I can find a table.

If you were a gamer in or around 1988, especially in the UK, this complete collection of GM magazines will bring back a lot of memories. It also includes all GMI mags that came after GM's demise, minus #14.
If you are keen on multi-genre gaming of many sorts (RPG, LARP, computer, table top, even telephone!) this will provide both useful and nostalgic info. I have given a lot of detail below, so please check it out:
See more here... (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=250435849123)

I've turned my campaign world into a series of materials for D&D 3.0. In particular Ye Olde Shoppe - a compilation of standard and original mundane items, complete with prices, weights, and rules - will be useful to many D&D campaigns.

What - legal pimping? Sort of takes the fun out of it. Kind of wish I had something to sell though. Have to settle for my mates' game Treasure and my RPG/ gaming blog at http://www.thistlegames.com/ (http://www.thistlegames.com/)
Let's see what I can come up with:
"I had no idea how ignorant I was about gaming until I visited Thistle Games"
"Thistle Games changed my life"
Got it this time:
"Thistle Games would Like To Teach the World to Sing - in perfect harmony"
Damn that's so original I think I'll have to click through myself.
Now I'll pop off and try and do it the proper way to see if it's more fun

GameCon 2010 is taking place April 16, 17, & 18 in Aberdeen, MD (just north of Baltimore). Preregistration is now open.
Although a small, local, con, GameCon had a good turnout last year, and should be even bigger (more people, more events) this year - especially with the extra day added.
Check out the website above for all the details (especially if you're interested in vending or running a game), but some of the highlights include:
* various LARPs including Star Wars and Vampire: the Masquerade (affiliated with One World By Night)
* two Warhammer tournaments (I think it's 40K one day and Fantasy another, not sure)
* assorted tabletop RPGs being run, plus lots of open tables and boardgaming
There are goodie bags upon arrival, door prizes and raffles, etc.
Coming up in November! Las Vegas, Tropicana Hotel, PILES of guests. Creative U looks to be incredible this year. We also have a decent bunch of RPGs scheduled and of course, Games on Demand!

At long last we've finished Expansion #2 for The Thousand Thrones campaign for WFRP v2.

This double-sized expansion covers multiple subplots in Chapters 2, 3 and 6. You'll probably want to have a copy of the campaign book on hand while you read it.
Congrats man!
I'm in Edinburgh on a Skinnerian simulation of a holiday, and I stopped by Black Lion Games (http://www.black-lion.co.uk/) this morning for the first time. It's a good shop with a good selection, especially of Mongoose Traveller, WoD and Runequest stuff. The staff person was friendly and helpful. Prices were very reasonable. I picked up the new Mongoose edition of Stars Without Number, and the LBBs Agent and Mercenary for Mongoose Traveller. Should you ever find yourself here, it's worth checking out.

Liber Fanatica is pleased to announce the first release of the Elf Project, Defenders of the Forest. This 100-page sourcebook for Wood Elf characters in WFRP also contains material for GMs who want to run magical forest adventures. Although the rules are 2nd edition, much of the background can be used in any edition.
http://www.liberfanatica.net/Elf_Project.html
EDIT: A corrected version has been uploaded:
- "Spidwer-God" typo fixed
- greyscales lightened
- Reikwald Hinterglade map shifted to unblock text
Sorry about the glitches; some of the final layout was done at 4 am last night.
EDIT 2: Another corrected version uploaded:
- Zoat's "magical power." uncovered
- Lost Kindred's "any Goblins or spiders that expose themselves." uncovered
That should hopefully fix everything. Next time we'll have a post-layout proofreader. :)
Who are Game Masters?
This is the question that I want to answer via the Master of the Game project.
I plan on interviewing game masters from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels and posting them on my blog. I also intend to produce a survey that can help gather statistical data on game masters in order to spot trends and to further help illuminate and outline the varied lives we lead.
Eventually I hope to compile my data and your stories into a book. A book that can serve as the definitive illustration who we really are. As game masters--and as people.
But I won’t be able to do this without your help and your cooperation. Complete my survey. Participate in an interview. Spread the word.
Thanks!

Hi, everyone, my name is Stef and I recently launched http://www.customdicebags.com after having had a wonderful success on Etsy with my store, "Tote Uncommon (https://www.etsy.com/shop/ToteUncommon)"
My dicebags have a 100% approval rating on Etsy and I am now supplying two game designers with bags and am being sold in a game shop here in Austin, Texas.
The bags themselves are well constructed and boast steel grommets and heavy material that is tripled stitched along every seam for durability. My bags are available in a variety of fabric and with a variety of embroidered patterns.
If you have a logo or a certain design you'd like to have on a bag, just contact me. I have pattern makers ready to help with that! It does incur an additional charge. Below is a sample pic of my bags.
So, check out my Etsy shop and customdicebags.com, you won't be disappointed! Oh, and I love bulk orders so don't be afraid to ask if you have a large quantity in mind.

Hi All,
We're trying to get a new RPG system finished via some Kickstarter funding.
Vacuum Shadows RPG (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/476448910/vacuum-shadows-rpg)
The system is a Science Fiction RPG that is quite simple for people to get the hang of quickly - with a minimum of fuss and rule bashing.
We have most of the core game rules done and tested, but we now need to enhance the background and fill out more of the technology details. We are also after getting some better illustrations and artwork for the rules so as to make it a bit less boring to look at.
This is a time consuming process and we'd like to be able to concentrate on it for a couple of months with a focus on it more than other work.
There is also going to be a software version of the Rule system, with interactive aspects to help players and DM's alike.
If you think you or your friends might be interested then please take a look. We will be updating the details on the site shortly with some examples of the system and a video showing the current state of the Rules software.
Vacuum Shadows RPG (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/476448910/vacuum-shadows-rpg)
Please ask any questions regarding the project here or on the Kickstarter page - we encourage all feedback.
All the best,
Dave Probert
The Liber Fanatica team has finally finished the Wood Elf sourcebook, Defenders of the Forest: http://liberfanatica.net/Elf_Project.html. It's designed for WFRP 2nd edition, but much of the background can be used with any edition.
Over 40 pages of new material has been added to the Beta version (released May 2012) including:
Chapter III: Religion
Chapter VIII: The Laurëlorn Forest
Chapter IX: new Hinterglade (The Doomed Kindred) and Hinterglade design guidelines
Chapter XII: Revolutions in Progress (adventure)
...plus extra information on Brúidd spirits and Lornalim trees, a new Heirloom, and more. Playtest feedback has also been incorporated into the rules.
EDIT: A couple of layout glitches in the adventure have been fixed, and the pdfs have been re-uploaded.
Hey everyone. I'm Bobpool and I have been lurking on and off for about half a year now.
I'm a pretty big fan of old World of Darkness, D&D 3rd edition, and Final Fantasy.
I have been playing RPGs since college for the past 10 years and have really stalled in creating a game out of fear. I found some free time and thought if not now when? I have a couple ideas but some of my cubicle friends thought it would make more sense to create a survey first to make sure I'm really not wasting time making something no one would look at.
I have this idea for a time traveling, dimension hopping game with its roots in the Matrix, The One, and Dr. Who but I want to get pretty specific with it and make sure I'm not just making another run of the mill D20 game.
I'm hoping to develop a game with a community in mind instead of just a vanity project. So if anyone would be willing to take a quick survey I would really appreciate it.
Just follow the link: Click Here For Survey! (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YGMLPJN)
Also I included a random chance to win a $100 Amazon giftcard until 6/22/13 if you are in the US.
Thanks!
Bobpool

This year is the maiden voyage of Sheepcon: a Melbourne based table-top gaming convention put together by four friends who ended up way over their heads (and love it). Our first year is going to be jam-packed full of gaming with some light entertainment and a few other little bits and bobs to make a really enjoyable day for everyone. We have a an amazing venue in Kensington which will have themed rooms for games.
Over at Sheepcon we like to discover and we want you to discover as well. Thats why we urged our Gms to run something new and exciting for our players. To brush of the old or the not yet appreciated before slamming it down on our tables. Hopefully when you leave Sheepcon you will have played something you otherwise wouldn't have and had a ball doing it.
For more information head over to the Sheepcon website (//www.sheepcon.com) or our facebook page. We would love to hear from you and we would love to see you at Sheepcon 2013.

London Darkness Roleplaying Club (previously known as London NWOD) is back!
LDRC's next session will be held on the 26/05/2014, between 13:00 GMT +0:00 (1PM in the UK) to 16:00 GMT +0:00 (4PM in the UK). LDRC is based at The Pirate Castle, which is located in Camden Town in North-West London.
If you are interested in attending, email us as soon as possible at london.nwod@gmail.com with the date you can attend in the body. Directions and other details will be provided once your email has been received. We welcome experienced gamers and new players alike! Players MUST be 18+ (safety and security reasons). Our club plays any and all official New World of Darkness templates currently available (e.g. Vampire, Werewolf, Mage), as well as recently released and future templates (e.g. Mummy, Demon). We will be running a Mage The Awakening game on one table and another game (TBD) on another table.
A £4 contribution towards the club fund (we are a not-for-profit club and your contribution helps with the running costs each session) for the venue is required which you can -- and must -- pay on the date of the session. All contributions are collected at the start of the session (or on your arrival if for any reason you are late) and are then deposited at the venue directly at the end of the session.
If you know anyone at all who would also be interested in joining this group, you are welcome to bring them along to the session (provided they also contribute £4 on the day). If you are bringing someone along, please can you provide us with their contact details -- with their permission, of course.
We are looking to bring on one additional Gamemaster for the sessions going forward. This role will be a voluntary, "full-time" (i.e. weekly) position. Further details will be provided to applicants (incl. responsibilities, scheduling, potential compensation, game content and so on).
If you are interested in becoming an LDRC sanctioned Gamemaster, please send your application via a seperate email at london.nwod@gmail.com and include in the email body your first and last name, age, your availability on Sundays, your experience with World of Darkness (both New and Old), your experience as a GM (World of Darkness preferred but not essential) and what you feel are your qualities and limits are as GM. Once this email has been received, your information will be filed for reference* and you will be informed in due time if your application will be advanced to the next stage.
That's it for now. We look forward to seeing you at our next session!

My name is Nicholas, and I am an artist who works in Japanese hand papermaking and bookbinding. I am currently working with two other artists to create comprehensive, illustrative maps of Edo period Japan (~1603-1868). This project is called A Land of Narrow Paths. We are archival giclee printing these maps on washi (Japanese paper), and creating an accompanying booklet that details the time period. The map essentially comes in two versions: 1) Historical, or 2) Folkloric, where we add yokai to your map (the yokai are drawn with sumi by hand, and then scanned). There are also two sizes for each map: a smaller, more affordable size, and then the full size map (26"x38").
Here is our Kickstarter page. (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nicholascladis/a-land-of-narrow-paths)
Our project is all about merging traditional and digital art processes (hand papermaking, woodblock printing, sumi drawing, sumi calligraphy, and digital formatting), as well as getting people interested in the time period. We're raising money to finish hand calligraphy (all labels are done by hand with sumi ink), finish folkloric illustrations, and make editions of our prints. To make the project accessible, we also have a $10 backing option, which includes a PDF of the booklet and full resolution digital files of both maps.
While this is an art project, we come from tabletop gaming backgrounds and believe that our offerings would also make great Japan-themed roleplaying game supplements. For example, the PDF could be used as a setting guide for games set in the Edo period, and the monster cards (see below) could be used as Japanese yokai visuals.
At this time, we are at almost 300% of our funding goal. However, the more we raise, the more content we provide. For example, now that we have passed the $5,000 mark, we are now offering backers of every level ($10 and up) a complimentary set of digital print-and-play files of an obake karuta -- literally "monster cards" -- a game made and played during the Edo period and yet another great supplement for Japan-themed roleplaying games. We are also now offering physical copies of this deck. You can read more about obake karuta here. (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nicholascladis/a-land-of-narrow-paths/posts/886921)

Here is a preview of the pre-labeled map. The final map will have more locations and will be labeled with sumi calligraphy. The textures you see here are directly from woodblock prints and handmade paper.

Here is a closeup of Mt. Fuji and its surroundings. The final map will have more locations and labels hand-calligraphed with sumi ink.

Here are 3 sample cards of our obake karuta, or "monster cards". These were hand-drawn with sumi (sumi-e) and then scanned. Even the backgrounds are sumi mixed with Japanese watercolor pigments.

As a Player, have you ever wanted to adventure but couldn't find a DM?
As a DM, have you ever had players wanting to keep going, but you didn't have anything prepared?
This is a complete adventure ready to be played through in a single sitting of 2-3 hours. It can be dropped into any campaign, and is designed so it can be played in several different ways;
What it is: This project is a system neutral, solo-play, one-shot, complete adventure module for characters of any level.
What that means:
System Neutral means it is not dependent on any specific rule set or edition, and can therefore be dropped into just about ANY role playing campaign world setting. If your game rules use polyhedral dice, then this will work for you. It was written primarily for the most common traditional fantasy role-playing game settings, but it can be adapted for many other worlds with just a little imagination.
Solo-Play means it can be played by a single person without a DM. It can be played with multiple players with or without a DM as well. It has a flexible design and concept so it can be used in many different ways. Though it was designed to be played by a lone player by themselves, it can be played with a group of players and multiple characters, or even with a DM.
One-Shot means it is able to be completed in a single 2-3 hour sitting. This is also flexible in that you can increase the level of challenge (with more or stronger monsters) to increase the length of play time, or you can decrease the number of challenges to shorten the play session.
Complete Adventure Module means that everything you need to get through this adventure is contained in the PDF, HOWEVER, this is NOT a stand-alone game. SEE ALSO: What it is NOT:
For Characters of Any Level means that this module is scalable. You can increase or decrease the challenge based on the experience level of your character or characters.
What it is NOT: This is NOT a stand-alone Role Playing Game rules set. The rules and mechanics for a Role Playing Game are not part of this. This is just an add-on, like an expansion, for whatever Role Playing Game system you currently use. You will need at least the basic guidebooks for whatever Role Playing System you normally use.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1141200191/lair-of-the-black-dragon
Oh, and did I mention that the basic fully-playable module is a reward for a one dollar pledge?
Thanks. Come check it out.

Hey guys, we've just launched our Kickstarter for RPG humour greetings cards. Perfect if you need to butter up your GM before a big campaign, or if it's your bard's birthday, or your wizards wedding or... your barbarian's bat mitzvah!

Hello!
I'm Jeff, from House Rule Gaming. Our Kickstarter just launched yesterday (August 17th).

At House Rule, we're looking to create an inclusive and accessible role-playing community. We're creating a place where you can find players and games, build campaigns, and play them. Our campaign tools include a blog, wiki, and other game materials. We support Face-To-Face play by providing a place to chat and work on the campaign between sessions. If you play online, you can jump right into our own virtual tabletop and have all your wiki articles and game materials at your fingertips!

We're currently in closed alpha, and we're working towards entering a beta phase. The Kickstarter is to improve our servers so we can start getting more and more people involved!
We'd appreciate any time you have to take a look, and if you like what you see, tell a friend!
We'll also be running a 24-hour game-a-thon this weekend Friday (August 19th) at 7PM Pacific. We'll be using our own tools and streaming it on Twitch.tv. We'll be happy to field any questions you might have!

[Kickstarter] Demon Gate the apocalyptic dark fantasy RPG has 8 days remaining. Check it out for those who haven't.

"I wanted to capture that feeling where you are all huddled around the campfire in the dark wondering what is just beyond the light"
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2128084323/demon-gate-apocalyptic-fantasy-tabletop-role-playi (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2128084323/demon-gate-apocalyptic-fantasy-tabletop-role-playi)
I hope that this is the right place for me to mention this Kickstarter. If not, like, a thousand pardons. I don't come here as often as I should, particularly considering my permanent ban from the big purple (anyone who wants the story can PM me: it's probably a novel ban story, even if you've heard a lot).
(http://endtransmissiongames.com/Images/littlefriend.jpg) (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/endtransmissiongames/systems-malfunction-sci-fi-rpg)
Our company (http://endtransmissiongames.com/) (which is indie as in very small and obscure, but not in a gross like, storygames kind of way) has been running this KS (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/endtransmissiongames/systems-malfunction-sci-fi-rpg) for about a week and we're nearly funded. We'd planned on being funded within the first 48, because we've got a lot of stretch goals we're super psyched about.
Also like, paging Pundit: it seems impossible to register new accounts on your site currently? We have a few other people on our team that would like to come here and hang out (John, Devon). Actually I think Devon probably registered years ago but was never active and forgot his credentials. Also also, we're wondering what's going on with running those ads we wanted to pay you for? Somehow we are running ads on RPG.net which is run by social justice hipster fascists (we're not running ads directly through them: we're going through Gamerati which I think is EnWorld affiliated but permanently owns some percent of big purple's ads, but it's hard to follow) although I hope that they don't get any of our money. We are philosophically opposed to not running just as many ads here, so we'd love to see that happen.
Thanks, Pundit! Thanks especially anyone who finds the time to check out our Kickstarter!
Detroit area gamers, let's ROCK like KISS is coming to town!
