SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Ok. Share the names (or make them up!) of the elite organisations that have appeared in your games. What were they and what did they do?

Bretonnian Gastronomic Society (WFRP): A group of Bretonnian nobility who held weekly get togethers to destroy the careers of prospective cooks and in order to get free food to scoff at.

The Treaders (RM): A group or ne'er do wells that frequented a slum called the Beggars Tread. Largely incompetent, but certainly ruthless.

In my d20 Modern campaign - The Mandate - the pcs had to foil the schemes of a cult called Truth Omega who staged elaborate religious hoaxes. So convincing were their tricks that the world was gripped with religious fundamentalism. Their purpose - the pcs never found out, because the campaign took a different direction.

Well, my 3 kingdoms campaign is chock-full of groups like this, some historical and some mythical.

Besides the Wudan monks and the Taiping monks (later the Yellow Turban revolutionaries), we had the 36 Military Commanders, the Horse Lords of Liang, the Five Geniuses, the 4 Crippled Assassins, the Ten Regular Attendants, and many more.  Those Han Chinese would form elite societies at the drop of a hat.

In my Roman Campaign we've got the Four Horsemen (though that's a pretty exclusive club) the Mithraists (Roman Freemasons! Yay! :mason:), the Brotherhood of Set, dozens of different Christian sects, and The XIII (a secret society that Jongwk's character inadvertently created that are now on the cusp of turning into Rome's official secret police, and have way too much power (and knowledge of the Immortals) for the PCs to feel comfortable about).

My Legion of Superheros campaign has the Legion itself, and the not-so-elite Legion of Substitute Heroes.

In Warhammer the Knights of the Panther have briefly appeared.

No elite groups in my Hollow World campaign, as of yet.
