What's sitting on your bookshelf just waiting to be played? What do you wish you could drum up a group for right now?
For me, I've been trying for ages to get a group to go through Tomb of Horrors, and I'd really love to play Strange Tales of Songling. I'd also really like to kick the tires on TinyD6 and OpenD6 to see how they play in practice, and I wish I could get either a S&W or a C&C campaign going.
As much as I am excited to play Wolves of God, I'll never find a group for it. So Solar Blades and Cosmic Spells looks really fun. I'll probably run that after my Stars Without Number campaign. SB&CS fleshes out the Black Hack a lot and bends it towards science fantasy (really a mix of many different RPGs, but TBH is the biggest influence). Most of the book is GM tools and content generation tools.
I'd like to run DCC in a moderate length campaign--not just the funnel or a couple of adventures, but not an epic years and years thing, either.
I wouldn't mind running a high-end, short Fantasy Hero campaign--specifically, superhero fantasy with all the usual mythic fantasy tropes but over-the-top characters. To make that work, would need to build the characters more like early Champions, rather than the point-fests that later Hero can turn into.
I'm most excited about running my own system, of course, now that I have it far enough along to run parts of it. For purposes of this topic and understanding what that would be like, think of a fantasy Western Europe game, circa 500-700 AD, with lots of fairy tale creatures (if not always fairy tale logic), in an overall simpler, yet more comprehensive, version of Dragon Quest.

Oh yeah, I need to read my copy of Wolves of God too. Probably in the same boat though. :( Is SB&CS' toolset useful enough that you'd recommend it as a general purchase?

I got to play in a high-level DCC one-shot and it was super fun. I completely grok the desire to play a midlength campaign.
What more can you tell us about your system? Have you started threads about it here yet?
Quote from: insubordinate polyhedral;1133144I got to play in a high-level DCC one-shot and it was super fun. I completely grok the desire to play a midlength campaign.
Yeah, I'll probably play a one-shot adventure first, because that is what time will allow. But it just isn't in me to want to do that a lot, because I so much enjoy the campaign format. I suppose I'm cheating myself a little holding off on DCC until I can run the campaign, but I don't want to spoil it either.
QuoteWhat more can you tell us about your system? Have you started threads about it here yet?
I've not started any threads, but I've made several comments here or there. Sometimes, a discussion here will drift into something I'm struggling with exactly how to handle, and then those comments help clarify the issue in my own head. When I get further along, I'll probably start some explicit threads.
My 1e/OSRIC and ACKS mash-up. The setting has come together nicely, and I have a general idea how to handle the interface between the two rules sets.
I have to be careful thinking too far ahead because then I would probably jump from game to game.
That being said I was really looking forward to the Pathfinder Agents of Edgewatch Adventure Path where you play members of Absalom's city watch. I imagined that it would be like playing in Ankh Morpork.
Hoping to get an Eclipse Phase game up and running, transhumans vs cosmic horror? Hell yea.
What I would most love to run next would be Cold Iron (the home brew system of a college friend). I'm really curious if it's possible to find players these days who would grok and enjoy the system.
Second after that, and much more realistic, I'd really love to run a Roll20 game of some form of old school D&D (based on what I own, OD&D, AD&D 1e, or BX).
If none of those appealed to a group, my third rank would be Classic Traveller, Talislanta, EPT. Burning Wheel, and maybe something else from the corners of my collection.
When I get back with my gaming group, we were talking DCC, but I they did get Pathfinder 2nd & Starfinder just recently.
Next fantasy campaign...I'm thinking of breaking out Palladium Fantasy and running that (it's been a few years).

I like it a lot. I always saw the "GM doesn't roll" aspect of The Black Hack to be its fatal shortcoming and so was excited to see SB&CS work it back in. Solar blades also happens to be in my favorite genre, and as such has become a house favorite.
I'd like to play:
Wolves of God
Skadic Sagas
Warlock
Or anything related to Pirates or Gothic horror.
New RPG playtest! I'm approaching the end of my rewrite and I'm excited about bring the damageplan to the battlefield. I retooled a bunch of stuff and its going to be fun to see how it actually plays. Solo runs of the mechanics are cool, but watching what players do with the mechanics and setting is the best (and often painful) lesson.
Not a game precisely, but I'm putting the call out for people to show up for a Session Zero and the group will then choose from a selection of RPGs that I am willing to run.
Legends of the Wulin, Blades in the Dark, Urban Shadows, Godbound, Hillfolk, and Stars Without Number for sure. Cortex Prime maybe, but that'd be a lot of work.
If I do a one-shot of something published by someone else, I am edging toward Mothership (https://www.mothershiprpg.com/). I've heard so many good and interesting things about the game. After being let down by the Nemesis boardgame (beautiful, flavorful, but ultimately meh), I'd like to see how Mothership actually plays.

Gonna do any online playtests? Asking for a friend. :D
I'm running D&D5e right now, and while I don't really have time for a second game, I have a few that are buzzing in my head.
In no particular order:
- Savage Rifts (unlikely to ever happen as some of my players really dislike Savage Worlds)
- Eclipse Phase 2e (mixed interest in my group)
- Soulbound (the mechanics look nice on a readthrough, but the setting isn't really grabbing me)
- Polaris (the setting is awesome, but the mechanics are crap--one player wants me to run it with Genesys and another with GURPS...neither of which really thrill me)
Quote from: insubordinate polyhedral;1133144Oh yeah, I need to read my copy of Wolves of God too. Probably in the same boat though. :( Is SB&CS' toolset useful enough that you'd recommend it as a general purchase?
While the meat of the game is The Black Hack at it's core, the author clearly studied many of Kevin Crawford's works. Diogo Nogueira is a step less abstracted in his content creation tables with a lot more implied setting than something like Stars Without Numbers or Silent Legions. It's adaptable enough that you could run something like Star Wars, but something a bit more gonzo or pulpy fits the feel better.
I'm already running and playing a ton of games, but two more I'm excited to run are:
1. The Lucanii Drift 'Star Trek' type sandbox campaign, probably using Mini Six/Open D6.
2. 5e D&D Odyssey of the Dragonlords, Greek Myth setting - planning to run that probably once my 'Princes of the Apocalypse' campaign ends in 12-18 months.
I've started tooling up to have another go at running The Whispering Vault (I managed a couple of short sessions with it years ago when I first got it). Nothing too ambitious to start, but I'm playing with some patient old friends who like the same sort of weirdness I do.
Please post about your Whispering Vault campaign. I read the game years ago and it seemed very interesting, but I never got the chance to play it.
I'm planning on running Five Torches Deep in Yoon Suin, the purple land.
Massive culture shock for my DnD focussed group.
I'm starting up CoC campaign, London 1920s, hopefully a mix of old and new players.
Quote from: Altheus;1133225I'm planning on running Five Torches Deep in Yoon Suin, the purple land.

Five Torches Deep is a great little game. I only picked up the pdf recently. Nice Idea with Yoon Suin as well.
We've played D&D 5e for awhile, but my group is willing to give more old school rules a try. I've been wanting to tackle the Stonehell megadungeon, using Basic Fantasy or B/X.
I also want to give The Black Hack a try, running it with some old TSR modules. I'm not too sure how my players and I would grok it, though. Has anyone here played The Black Hack and found it too simple?
I was going to run the new edition of Over the Edge for a few friends at GenCon. One of them was going to run Fate of the Norns and I was looking forward to that. Neither of those are happening now though. :(
I'm setting up to take my turn at the helm of our gaming table in a month or so. I've offered to run any of the following: Torg Eternity, Outbreak Undead, Alien, Forbidden Lands or Iron Kingdoms.
What I'm dying to run, but not really my group's thing, is either the new edition of Kult or Legacy - Life Among the Ruins w/ either the Generation Ship or Worldfall setting.
We finally finished the slogfest that was Starfinder: Dead Suns. God, I'm so glad to see the back of that campaign. Bleah.
Next campaign will be a Rifts campaign using Savage Worlds. Knowing my group's penchant for wacky hijinks, I fully expect the other characters to be weird as hell :D
I purchased Clockwork Dominion a couple of years ago and would like to run it, but haven't had a group interested in learning it yet.
Gonna play somewhat modded god bound today. Lets see how it goes.
Age of Sigmar: Soulbound, Rifts, Shadowrun
But our group is onboarding a couple of new players so we are likely to stick with D&D for quite some time...
Ive a few recently delivered games on my shelf:
High Valor
Mythras
Abstract Dungeon
Magic World and Advanced Sorcery
That should keep me going for a bit
I was really looking forward to the spring season of X-Wing Miniatures competative tournaments. I still have a seat reserved at Dark Tower Games store championship just before the lockdowns hit.
I've got a Sisters of Battle army that I've started to assemble for 9th edition release.
The latest wave of Transformers TCCG released this month, and I'm planning some decks.
And on the RPG front, I've got a new Starfinder campaign that got interrupted and weekly Starfinder Society games to attend at the local gaming pub.

What made Starfinder a slog for you and your group? Setting or rules?
Quote from: Ninneveh;1133341What made Starfinder a slog for you and your group? Setting or rules?
For a second I read that as: Spelljammer: Dark Sun
And that sounded like a much weirder and more interesting carton of eggs for a bit.
Quote from: insubordinate polyhedral;1133119[NO POLITICS] What are you most excited to play next?
Chthonian Stars
Quote from: Ninneveh;1133341What made Starfinder a slog for you and your group? Setting or rules?
Rules. The mechanics are wonky and almost self-contradictory, equipment isn't handled well, and enemies are little more than giant bags of hit points. The campaign itself, from a story perspective, wasn't terrible, but... ugh. It didn't feel exciting like it did when I was playing PF1's Rise of the Runelords.
Hero's Journey...we'll see if that game ever materializes, though. Might have to get everyone to read The Hobbit before they're in.
Quote from: Brad;1133402Hero's Journey...we'll see if that game ever materializes, though. Might have to get everyone to read The Hobbit before they're in.
Oh boy, I really want to give that a try too. There were some one-shots running at online cons but they filled up very quickly. If anyone in your party prefers audiobooks, the Rob Inglis versions of the Lord of the Rings are wonderful, and it looks like he did The Hobbit as well.
Hopefully I will soon be able to run some Dark Sun in D&D 4E.

The virtual THJ game I was registered for at NTRPGCon got cancelled...like at the last second. Super disappointed about that, but the GM's wife had some medical issues so can't get mad about it.
I'll check out the audio books. I am not a fan of them, but sometimes it's better than the alternative of not reading at all.

What's your system like?
Conflict, the game of modern combat. I'm writing it up, and it's going to be horribly brutal.
I was excited to have Traveller coming up. Then I found out all about ACKS, and I became excited about that. After some discussion, the group eventually settled on going with Traveller, even though it wasn't filling me the excitement any more.
But now we're moving into pre-campaign prep, my Traveller excitement is increasing again. I'm going to be running Pirates of Drinax using rules I develped from the Mongoose Traveller 1e playtest document, with bits and pieces taken from various other sources.
Cyber Sprawl Classics (https://csc-rpg.neocities.org/) IF I can find a GM willing to run a play by text funnel at least.
Quote from: insubordinate polyhedral;1133189Which aaaaarrreee...?
At the Dented Mug there will be a Session Zero where interested Players and GM will gather to discuss what game will be run and what setting for that game.
Possibilities include d6 Star Wars, Traveller, Mekton, Cyberpunk 2020, Cepheus Engine, Basic Fantasy, and Advanced Labyrinth Lord.
One drink minimum to attend.
During Coronapanic my RPGing has been on Roll20, which is far from ideal but it is what it is. I ran T&T for a few sessions, one of the other group has run 5e for the last few weeks, but with that adventure coming to an end GM duties will revert to me and I'm hoping to run Blood & Bronze if I can get everyone on board. If not it'll probably be Cthulhu, which I love, but have played so much of it "excited" wouldn't be the right term for playing it again.
Quote from: KingCheops;1133278Age of Sigmar: Soulbound
I went from zero to sixty on that game myself. Very odd, but I'm looking forward to trying it.

Quote from: Scrivener of Doom;1133413Hopefully I will soon be able to run some Dark Sun in D&D 4E.
It's good stuff and surprisingly well written.
If I run it, I might port over the 4e system from Gamma World because its faster and more brutal.
Quote from: Shawn Driscoll;1133374Chthonian Stars
Enjoy! I've played the original via Traveller and it was quite fun. I really like how they kept the campaign within our solar system. SciFi in our system is underappreciated. As a GM, having access to NASA pics was really helpful for increasing immersion. You were going to a real place that looks exactly like that.
Quote from: insubordinate polyhedral;1133189Gonna do any online playtests? Asking for a friend. :D
I don't enjoy virtual games (or stuff like Zoom or WebEx for work) so I'm the wrong GM for that.
But when the game passes muster through my internal playtests, I definitely want outside GMs to take it for a spin.
Quote from: Aglondir;1133543What's your system like?
D&D 0e + 5e bits + Gamma World 1e + Classic Traveller + Random Ideas over 4 decades.
Still nailing down how much is going to be Contested Rolls in Combat.
Still nailing down Skills vs. Backgrounds (I really like how 13th Age uses Backgrounds)
I'm very much "rules light", but not 1-page rules or MicroLite level (which can be great fun too).
Big Eyes Small Mouth 4th Edition
Mutants and masterminds 3E

Yeah. I'm really looking forward to seeing what's done with this system.
I'd be excited to have Lion & Dragon/Dark Albion redone for D6 Fantasy. You know you want to pundit.
Honestly I'd still just love to get a game of Pendragon going one day.
Hopefully i can get a Sufficiently Advanced game going using the first edition rules before it went diceless. Im very excited:)
Getting back to our regualrly irregular weg d6 star wars game. Im lookign forward to it mostly because I wont be GMing for the first time since lockdown :)
Quote from: insubordinate polyhedral;1135638You just going to tease us with that and only that? :P

Big Chungus was removed from initial releases of 3e monster manual for being too OP; while the normal house cat could kill a few commoners, Big Chungus as statted could do the whole village even after the initial energy drain and static discharge nerf.
