This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I got an idea to set up RPG forums of my own. Just RPG stuff, with nothing off-topic or covering other types of entertainment. RPGs and RPGs alone. I have a basic outline, but I thought I'd ask for feedback here. What games would you like to see forums for? What forums for RPGs as a whole would you like to see?

The structure basically looks like this...

No sock pupppets without prior permission, all contact information members only, suspensions and bannings discussed publically beforehand. Warnings private, no exceptions.

Cause for suspension and banning: Egregious insults, advocating illegal acts, false complaints, egregious profanity, lying. Note that insults and profanity are allowed if used in an entertaining fashion.

The RPG Nut is intended to be a discussion site you can visit along with The RPGsite and not a competitor. Volunteers for tech admins and mods are welcome, but gain no special privileges. All suspensions and bannings remain the responsibility of the ur-admin (me). When the place is ready to go you'll read it here first.

Doesn't interest me dude but as someone who has run forums... you don't want to start out with more than maybe 2 sub-forums.  If you spread discussion out too much then people will wind up posting less.

The forums are too subdivided for me, too many things to check.

I prefer the one big "RPG Discussion" forum.  Even at sites like StoryGames where I can split stuff up I just look at one big block.

Also, and this may not be helpful, but I'm a little tapped out on RPG forums.  RPG.net, theRPGsite, ENWorld, StoryGames, GameCraft, and still others provide a variety of different forum experiences.  While I would like to see a general RPG site that is nothing more or less than a general RPG site, I don't think I'd be up for checking more specialized sites.

You're gonna need heavy moderation if you want to avoid off topic discussion and not have an off topic forum. That's just how topic drift works sometimes.

Well, to answer a few questions...

I have a huge ego, so I'm going to have my own RPG forums. :D

If people really want non-RPG forums, I'll set up non-RPG forums; at another site. I want folks to focus on RPGs at The RPG Nut and a separate non-RPG message board site should help there.

I'm lazy, so I'll set up "unnecessary" forums ahead of time so I won't have to later.

You post, fine. You don't, that's okay by me. All I can do is provide a venue people feel comfortable coming to and wait for the posting to begin. The big difference between here and there will be a less confrontational style of posting on my part. I like Pundit, but he can get a tad abrasive at times. Being a Canadian by birth he does have a natural tendency towards aggressive behavior.

Note that I see The RPG Nut as a more focused supplement to The RPGsite. While there will be no limitations placed on vocabulary, I do hope people will follow my lead and keep the cussing to a minimum.

More news as it becomes available.

Decided I could always add new categories and boards as time goes by. So for now the place has a board for general RPG discussion, plus additional boards for design and write-ups plus a few others. You can find the place at The RPG Nut.

Registration is required, and while I place no restrictions on vocabulary, I do ask that you keep it clean. Standard advice on pulling dumb shit applies. Community policing in effect, but to a tighter standard than here. So drop on by, join up, and participate in a more "genteel" atmosphere.

This offer not valid where taxed, licensed, or otherwise restricted in some fussbudget manner. The RPGPundit is asked to leave the grumpy at home. :D

Okay, seriously, if you ever feel up to it go ahead and drop me a line. I'll get you set up as a mod as soon as I can. All I ask is a light touch (let me be the villain), and be open to advice and criticism. I'd rather have mods who know and accept their limitations and faults, then somebody who thinks they're Man's gift to God.

No offence dude, but shouldn't you worry about moderation after you get some posts.

What will your boards offer that cannot be found at theRPGsite, ENWorld, RPG.net, or the others? I'll check them out out of curiosity, but if you want to be successful you'll have to answer that question.

 Okay - to be clear here , I wasn't referring to your potential forum.

 A local  Sci-fi convention has been asking me or inviting me to be a moderator for their Gaming Forums.

 I was not "Volunteering" to be a moderator .  There is some common sense in me.
