Here's a new resource which needs a lot more gamers to sign up:
Nearby Gamers (http://nearbygamers.com/)
Good stuff. I signed up for my area...

Nice idea but the site is a bit too cluttered. May want to find a way to unclutter it.
Also needs a way to make me sow up in Indiana and not Arizona.
Where you sow is your own business, Doc, c'mon....

Oops.
The way I see it, the bigger it gets, the more likely it is to become a little less clunky.
Weird -- I went to the site and it displayed my true, real, actual location. Ijoined...and it pegged me in Tempe, AZ. I logged out and looked at the page as a guest, and THEN it showed me in Bloomington, IN again.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, Major Tom?
Apparently I live in Newcastle. Which is at least five counties away. Maybe ten.
It needs something sorting in the set up...
V.
It put me pretty close, it put me in Cedar Rapids, IA instead of Hiawatha (sm-med sub)
I'd hazard a guess and say it automatically derives your location from your IP address using reverse DNS or a traceroute - hence the last hop it can see before you is the location it automatically feeds into the map.
So some of you are getting located by your ISPs nearest Point of Presence.

I don't think so. It points to where I live, not where I work and have been to the site from. It's probably just havign trouble parsing the address info.
I fixed it. You have to fill in your location, see.
Yep! I was located in Baltimore until I put in my location.

Now if only the password reminder email feature would work. I've only got my account partially set up and now I can't get back in because I've got oldfart disease. :(
Nearby Gamers is Awesome. I've just discovered a mini con near me that has been going on 4 years that I HAD NO IDEA about! Cool!
If you go to Google Earth and get your latitude and longditude, you can pinpoint yourself. Just put it in the location box, for example, 12.5,170.01
More Indiana Gamers, I say! We host Gen Con! A better showing is demanded of us!
I'll be damned, there are gamers in Hawaii besides the 4 guys I play with. Of course, the military folks are short timers.
It pinpointed my city as Auckland NZ ok. I just narrowed it down a it further to my suburb.
I, apparently, am the lone gamer in Oklahoma.
Well, not REALLY...but there's a good 50 miles between me and the nearest gamer.
