This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Sometimes, awesome things come in from left field. In this case, Modiphius Entertainment announcing a new edition of Mutant Chronicles:
http://www.modiphius.com/mutant-chronicles.html

As this is the awesomest game in the universe, I thought it might be of interest.
And if I come off as a shill, I don't care.
This is just pure joyous glee over the resurrection of one of my favorite games.

And it just so happens that a new Warzone is counting down as well:

I am very excited!

Silverlion

I just hope its well designed.
If it is, I'll be looking forward to it.

I'm not happy.

To me, "Mutant Cronicles" was once nothing but a killing blow to an rpg that i used to like, named "Mutant".
It was originally concived as "Mutant Space", but ended up ... as far as i see it, without any actual mutants, that once made the original game interesting.
Necromutants?
Oh, those rank(indeed) and-file zombies are not mutants in my book.
... And even if they were, they seem quite alone.

Well, the game Mutant has since resurfaced, in a kind of remake, so perhaps i shouldn't hold a grudge ... but i kind of still do.
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.
;)

Woot!!! Thank you for this great news.

Catelf, tell us more about this Mutant Space. Any links?

Shush! You won't bring me down;)
One thing; Mutantkrönikarne has a much better ring to it than boring old
Mutant. You can't disagree there.
But I remember MC caught some flak from the Mutant-fans back in the days. I didn't care much as I was never a fan of talking bears and whatnot.
MC however, hit me like a cyberfist.

AmazingOnionMan

Did Mutant Space ever get off the ground?
I have only seen one convention-scenario of it, I don't remember the details, but it was set in a mining facility in the asteroids, owned by Capitol and run over by Semai-heretics. I think...oh, and zombies in the mines.

From my memory, it was basicly a less fleshed out version of what would be Mutant Chronicles.

Sorry, no links that i know of, but there may exist, though, i have no idea.
In many respects it was like Mutant Cronicles as you know it, but since it was an extension of the game Mutant at the time, there could be a few differences:
Really, the original Mutant had already gotten partially killed off when a new version of it once were presented, that was more like CyberPunk, really, where the earlier was an post-apocalyptic world where other animals than humans had rose to intelligence and civilization. Those animals (that ind ficrion now is referred to as "Anthros" instead) was the Mutants of that rpg, mainly.
But, first the rpg shifted into some kind of Cyberpunk instead, almost removing all the original Mutants, except for humans with psi-powers.
And to this, "Mutant Space" was added.
In a way, Mutant Space was a kind of a cross between Mutant, and a horrorgame released by the same company, a horrorgame called KULT.

I agree that "Mutant Cronicles" is a stunning name.
... If they only had kept the original mutants throughout ...
The "talking bears", paranoid Rubbits(wellarmed, paranoid rabbits ... ), and robots with AI's that might contradict what they were built for ... but mainly the civilized bears, cats, wolves, ravens and whatnot was what made me like the game originally.
... Sad to say, i never got anyone to play it with me ... but perhaps that was for the best.
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.

It was released at least as an expansion(i think, rather than a stand-alone) to Mutant in Sweden (Mutant Rymd), a full box though, but you are correct, it was "basicly a less fleshed out version of what would be Mutant Chronicles".
And in a way it did get off the ground, but after the namechange and the fleshing out .. to Mutant cronicles.

Hi there, we'll be unveiling news over the coming weeks, we've been working on adding some more depth to the storyline, answering unanswered questions and giving it a nice spit and polish. If you're a fan of the past there's plenty to keep you happy, there's some nice new tweaks that really add what should have been there in the beginning, and much more.

We're chatting about it on our forum http://www.modiphius.com/forum.html#/mutant-chronicles-rpg/

and Facebook
https://www.facebook.com/MutantChroniclesRPG

but I'll be dropping by here so will answer questions when I can!

Yawn. Call me when Kult gets a reprint or a new edition. ;)

I'm not fond of registering in another place just to add things to the discussion, and i certainly doesn't have Facebook, so i'll put (some) comments here instead.

As a matter of fact, i DO have good things to say about Mutant Cronicles as well.

In the forum you gave a link to, there are currently 3 Topics:
Experiences with 'Cronicles, Hopes and wants for the new edition, and What was good and/or bad with The first and second editions.

I'll give my contribution to the last two here:

There is a clear risk that bringing back anthros from the original Mutant is too much to ask for, but do remember, that anthros do not have to be a joke, as the Original Mutant's approach ... and the "New" ... was.
Neither do they have to be un-civilized beasts, like the original Beastmen in WH & WH40K.
That is something that manga and anime should have proven by now.
So, if i would ask for anything, how farfetched it may seem, it is:
Let there be anthro-style mutants on the Corporate's sides.
(Bring back the "real" Mutants.)

Something i liked with 'Cronicles, though, was that some of the demons was ripped from KULT, although, they got ... adapted to their new roles in perhaps awkward ways.
I remember using a "Nefarit" in my own rpg-tweak once, to cause a fleeing group of adventurers who was fleeng from it, to really flee towards it, and its ... soldiers.
This was an ability taken from The Citadel, but it was probably originally a rememberance of how some of those beings in KULT could change the reality (or at least the seeming reality).

I liked how the each Corporation's soldiers really were different-looking (often due to different shoulder pads) from one another.

I did not like the blatant attempt to try to compete with GW at that time, it seemed a bit too much of a copy somtimes, despite the obvious differences.
... But right now, i don't care about GW, they have messed it up 3 too many times for me.
Just, ... go with your own feelings, do your thing, copying or not.
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.
;)

Thanks for the response, don't worry I'm happy to discuss here and as plenty of people don't like signing up for yet another forum

I do agree the corps need to be quite different, and we are looking at how we involve the theme of mutation a lot more within the story, I don't think you'll be disappointed, now anthros - that's quite a change, but it might be you could find them evolving (or as a result of escaped old experiments) on what's left of earth? Who knows!

Well, the more common definition of mutants in sci-fi is really uncontrolled deformations, more akin to Resident Evil, than the controlled animal mutations of TMNT and the likes ...
So i won't blame you if you go for that kind of route instead, it is at least more "mutant" over it than the enhanced zombies known as "necromutants" used to be.

The interesting point there though, is that if one goes too much into "Demonic mutations", one may fast get into the area of Warhammer's Chaos Spawn and similar, and i'm not sure if that is a good idea.
"Tailor-made mutations", though, be they demonic, necrotic, or biological(the latest may be used by the corporations), could be far more interesting though.
... But that's just an idea i got.

EDIT:
I saw in the replies in the linked discussion-forum, that it was a few opposing opinions, and i thought i'd comment on one of them:
Cybertroninc.
A few wants to keep it, but MikaelBergström, an autourity in the area, wanted them ditched, "because they didn't fit in" .. and i wonder "how did they not fit in"?
I thought they fit in well ...
JakeBernstein said instead that he wanted to have it explained how Cybertronic worked, and i think that is a far better idea.

Something important here, is that it is impossible to please everyone, so do not get too hooked up on that ... and that includes my wants.
I aim to keep some fairly unbiased opinions seperate from my wants, though.
I may not dislike D&D any longer, but I still dislike the Chaos-Lawful/Evil-Good alignment system, as well as the level system.

There are instances of flavour-text in MC 1/2 that implies horrible mutations striking both the low- and highborn, branding the unfortunates as heretics.
The designers seem to have overlooked that little detail in the game itelf, though.. They did put in necrotech and corruption, but little mutation.

And Catelf; if you want your wubbits in MC, have you seen this?

Um, i don't think that wubbits specifically would suit in Mutant Cronicles, since they were a distinct part of the "this is just for fun"-air that the Original Mutant had ...
The link seems interesting though ...

And what you pointed out about the flavortext is really interesting.
