This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Mongoose - crappy industry

Quote from: Seanchai;423068What I find interesting is that he's talking about what a slump 4e book sales are in and yet the competition still can't move to the number one spot...

#2, #3, and lower, keep on changing all the time.

A few years ago, Pathfinder didn't exist at all.

Quote from: Morcant;423074Didn't Pathfinder tie D&D for the #1 spot amongst hobby channels in a recent quarterly ICV2 analysis?

It would be great if similar information was revealed for the book trade and online sales of various rpg books.

I don't know. It might have. Point remains, even when D&D is doing horribly, the competition can barely catch it...

Oh good!  Another thread has descended into a tiresome discussion of the relative commercial success/failure of 4e D&D.  Thank Thor!

It's obvious that the relative commercial success of 4e plays an important role in validating your feelings about the game.  Why this should be the case remains baffling.  :hmm:

Quote from: Akrasia;423060I find the English Civil War extremely interesting, and so enjoy simply reading the C&C books (although I do hope to run a MRQII C&C campaign eventually).

Have you looked through the C&C modules?  Are they any good (ie. better than generic D&D modules)?

I haven't yet.

Feel free to not participate if you don't like the subject matter.

It's ironic because I would have said that many here need 4e to be a failure to validate their feelings and will go to great lengths to demonstrate that it is...

Speaking of which, I'm curious - given that you don't like 4e and don't want to discuss it's commercial success, why did you suddenly feel the need to pop into the thread?

Maybe if WotC stopped snubbing Thor for inclusion in the game, once again he would favor mortals with abundant crops and high D&D sales.

I can't speak for others, but I personally have no problem with 4e, and have no idea as to it's relative commercial success or failure.

Quote from: Seanchai;423138Speaking of which, I'm curious - given that you don't like 4e

Why are you assuming that I "don't like 4e"?

I don't like or dislike 4e.  It's simply not a game that I'm interested in right now.  (Although I own the 'redbox' intro set, I have to try it out.)

Pay attention.  We had been discussing MRQII (among other things), before the thread took an unfortunate turn.

If you bothered to read the Mongoose report, you'd know that 4e success is talked about for several paragraphs. But then, you couldn't have your righteous internet indignation.

Actually, I did read that report, and am aware that 4e's commercial success -- or, apparently, the lack thereof -- is mentioned (although I must confess that I skimmed that part, as I found it exceedingly dull).

I merely was lamenting the fact that yet another thread here has been derailed by the eternal debate over the commercial success/failure of 4e D&D.

*sigh*

Previous discussions and your post in this thread about 4e. You didn't bother to speak up until someone defended WotC.

Unless you were discussing the commercial or financial, you were threadcrapping first...

Um, what did I say in this thread that was negative about the 4e D&D game itself?  And in what "previous discussions" have I criticized 4e?

I don't have an opinion about the quality of the 4e D&D game.  I don't play it, but I have nothing against it.  I don't know how well it is doing sales-wise.  (And I don't care.)

I am tired of endless threads about the commercial success/failure of 4e D&D.  I merely was expressing my irritation at the prospect of yet another pointless -- and groundless -- back-and-forth on this topic.  And my amusement at how defensive you always are concerning financial health of 4e D&D.

That's it.

Quote from: Seanchai;423230You didn't bother to speak up until someone defended WotC.
Incorrect.

I joined the thread at post #9, in response to an earlier post concerning MRQII.  Later, one of the co-authors of MRQII joined the discussion.  I found the discussion interesting.

Shocking that MRQII might be discussed in a thread on the 'State of Mongoose', I know!

I never accused you of 'threadcrapping'.  I merely expressed my disappointment that this thread looked like it was descending into yet another pointless, groundless discussion of the commercial success/failure of 4e D&D.
