This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Cole;448755I missed this post before, but I wanted to make the observation that if you have level-up by GM fiat only, you remove the ability of the PCs to be proactive about their own advancement. You may be OK with this, but it's worth thinking about.

(I have done this before, though in 3e, not LOTFP, and I didn't think the experiment was a great success. If it works for you, of course, go for it.)

I've floated the idea to the group and they are on-board.  This is going to be a short campaign and I want to squeeze a few level ups in there without having to collect massive piles of gold or hack threw slews of monsters.  In fact, I want both treasure and monsters to be a bit more rare and mysterious.

But you are absolutely right that this is the sort of thing you want to think about beforehand--and I'd ass that it's the sort of thing that you should talk about with the players beforehand so everyone is on board and clear with how things will work!

Quote from: Spinachcat;448751The whiff on AC 12 base is bizarre.  It's one of the reasons I enjoy the Palladium system of ablative armor.  If you pump the HP, why not lower the base AC to 8?  Give the PCs a base HP equal to CON and then have them roll HP for levels.

This gives you less whiff, but the PCs get the illusion of being meaty.
QuoteWell, a base AC of 10 means that the average character will hit an unarmored man 55% of the time, which seems about right to me.  Since hit dice in LotFP aren't especially large, max HP isn't going to really give much illusion of meatiness.

QuoteWhy not start at 2nd or 3rd?

That is an option I kicked around.

QuoteBecause of the front loading, you may want to demand higher minimum scores when multiclassing and perhaps only allowing 2 classes max.

Those are awesome suggestions.  I will implement them!

QuoteAs a Rifts GM and the 4e Tyrant of Fun, I agree.

Thanks for the feedback!  It's nice to see that not everyone here is a grumbling grognard.
