Title: Lamentations of the Flame Princess 5th printing, any changes?
Post by: Kuroth on August 22, 2017, 08:40:58 AM
I recently purchased a new table copy of Lamentations, and I noticed it is the 5th printing (2017).  I seem to recall that there was some mention of possible changes planned for the 5th printing, but, after scanning through it, I don't see any changes from the 4th printing (2016), which I have been using for the present campaign.  Anyone have some clarification?

Is 'printing' different from 'edition'? I don't know that printings are usually associated with changes, other than maybe fixes to known errata.
I had heard, IIRC, that they were looking at changing the magic system to where spells didn't have level restrictions to cast... which has been an idea featured in several OSR-ish blogs and publications, including, I think, LotFP's 'zine Green Devil Face.

EDIT: I looked at the AMA on Reddi (https://www.reddit.com/r/RPGdesign/comments/6b3lgc/rpgdesign_activity_james_edward_raggi_iv_creator/)t that Raggi did and he mentions having just printed a 'couple thousand' new copies of the rules and that any changes would come after those were gone... but to see proposed changes to the magic system to look at the recent 'Vaginas are Magic!' book. All spells are first level and there is a miscast table.
He also talked for a bit about having saving throws that didn't improve much/at all a PCs go up in level.
Also, moving demihumans to the index and having them be less part of the core.

Making more than typographic changes in new print runs in small press books is pretty common, particularly the game books we talk about here.  I just appreciate a list of changes provided somewhere somewhat easy to find when it is done.  No big deal, really.

Those are the rather big changes that I recall alright Simlasa.  I'm glad they are being put off to a new edition at least, though I would rather he simply give it a new title and retain Lamentations as it presently happens to exist in print, even though he may no longer use it as a whole for his personal use.

Edit: Oh yes, thank you for the extra net check you made.
