This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Or HERO even but the difficulty basically remains that GURPS fans want GURPS. Which is why I've played around with the idea a lot but never really stuck with it or gone forward.

But Hero isn't open, yes GURPS fans will stick to it, so why not try and make something sorta like it but not it for others?

Go ahead and fix whatever you feel needs fixing, then market it to others not to GURPS fans.

Here is why this forum tends to be so stupid. Many people here think Joe Biden is "The Left", when he is actually Far Right and every US republican is just an idiot.

Cepheus Engine is going strong.  I think there's a lot of room for an open source GURPS.

Terrible idea, overwhelming majority of ttrpg players can't pass Voight-Kampff test.

You could even go so far as to rewrite their system as long as you do it in your own words.  Terms for game mechanics are not copyrightable, btw.

However, game mechanics can be patented:

And terms and symbols can be trademarked.

There's been more than one court case that shows that you cannot lock down game mechanics.  The latest I'm aware of is DaVinci Editrice S.R.L. vs. Ziko Games, LLC.

Symbols can be protected by trademark but terms and phrases are generally not unless it's a brand name or very unique.

Well, I already have Galaxies In Shadow and the Arcane Confabulation to scratch my own particular itches by myself in the dark y'know?  Really, I've written a ton of games including a few fairly direct ripoffs like Grimmer and Darker or spins on concepts like A Fantasy Game which is basically how I'd do Tunnels and Trolls.

What I've been fiddling with for Open 3d6 is a way for people to do their own thing and have cross compatability.  So, significantly looser than Cephus Engine in some ways but tightly compatible in the sense that things move pretty directly across due to some core assumptions.  I don't know, I like impossible projects I guess.  :D

Nothing wrong with impossible projects. The impossibility makes them more challenging, thus more rewarding if you can actually pull them off.  :)

My personal The Fantasy Trip clone eschews the 3d6 systerm for 2d12, but it works the same.  I just like d12s.  I analyzed the math and statistics, and charted a fairly accurate translation between TFT/GURPS and my own fantasy game, which I call Parallel Realms.

Will they finally stop being anal about stopping people from automating their incredibly cumbersome system?

I think they eased up on that the last several years. Today there's GCS/GCA for making characters and VTT's like Foundry have rulesets and can import from those systems.

The foundry module requires you to read a guide on how to manually add a lot of automation features and as far as I know still doesn't have proper ammo tracking because that stuff is still off limits.
And while GCS works for character building it sucks for tracking resources; compare with something like Shadowrun, another cumbersome system, that does resource tracking a lot better.

You miss the point.  It's not about the girl.  It's about the report of a sudden end for two high-ranking members of the staff.  And if you make it about the girl, it's not even about her being a girl...  Amazing it has to be stated: No one cares about her gender or has an issue with it.  It's an observation about her politics in relationship to a pattern of political extremism that came out of the company lately.

I was taught that the term "gender" referred to grammar (nouns) and the term "sex" was used in science - and don't mix the two.

I stand behind this even though a male aviatrix and a female actor are perfect acceptable now...

Maybe teachers got tired of the Sex: Yes! answer from students...

When I went to school, i never got to use sex in science.

I didn't publish my rules, and they are kind of a draft, as I play with them, but I could finish fleshing them out, write it in a way others understand it, and publish it as official rules.

Right now, I'm writing a bestiary of 1980s creatures for Radical High, so I'll need some time. Please be patient.
