This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

A thread for adaptations. The idea struck me while I was loathing my GURPS:Hellboy book (or maybe I was skimming a thread regretting that Firefly wasn't being done Trav-style) and wondered "Are there any better systems for Hellboy?"

Anyway, this thread should go almost like the RPG captions thread. Post a solution for the previous game idea. Then post what movie/comic/book/show/whatever you would want to play in. The next person suggests a system and asks for another book/videogame/whatever.

Clear?

I'll start with a couple, in the hopes that someone will respond:

Hellboy (anything but GURPS)

Neon Genesis Evangelion

The Foundation

Heavy Metal Magazine (issue one through 1980ish)

Knightsky

If I were to ever run a Hellboy game, I would use the Angel rulebook to do so.  Not only is combat a lot smoother, but it also handles the divide between 'normal' investigators (like Kate Corrigan) and the more powerful, superpowered agents (i.e., Abe, Liz, etc.) quite well.  Creating the various abilities of said superpowered agents is fairly easy to do, using the demon creation rules.

If I was to do the original Foundation trilogy I simply play Traveller and swipe Pendragon's winter phase mechanic.  Or maybe use the T4 supplement Pocket Empires for the same effect.

BESM. I think the system covers a wide variety of genres, which if I'm remembering correctly is what Heavy Metal did.

Anyone care to add something they'd like to emulate? This isn't just to answer my questions. I was hoping more for self-perpetuating dicussion. Like...

"I was wondering how you'd do Samurai Champloo."

...followed by...

"I don't know. But D20 SW's VP/WP system seems a good fit. As does Iron Heroes' skill groups.

"Now how exactly would one pull off Dune?"

And yeah... I was kind of expecting Trav for Foundation :p

For most anime I'd go with the R.Talsorian system, like Mekton Zeta plus.

Awesome.  Have to be the right kind of drunk though - whiskey or scotch.  The kind of drunk that makes you think too hard and piss too long.  The kind of drunk that will lead to saying things better left unsaid, and doing things better left undone.

Hells yeah.

Silent Mobius - You've got cops, magic, demons, psionics, cyborgs, graviton weapons and skimmers.

I'm tempted to say 'use Unknown Armies with all the supernatural stuff stripped out'.  Sin City, and most noir stuff in general, involves characters following their passions no matter how much it hurts, and UA handles that mechanically quite well.  Also, the Madness Meter can handle the sort of psychological brutality that Marv, Dwight, etc suffer through during their adventures in gruesome detail.
