Title: If ever the wizard there ever there was....
Post by: jibbajibba on July 16, 2012, 05:43:18 PM
Wizards have been the topic of conversation for a while.

I posted a 1e figther of mine Jonam of Ar. I now want to post something preposterous I refered to in the other thread briefly.
I have posted a few of Alberesh's personal spells before, like his Maddening Massage and others. This is a quick summary of some of his 'other crap'. I don't intend to write out the whole thing becuase well let's say it fills an entire book. Because we semi-larped a few of the early sessions his character and spell book are actually a faux lerther bound A4 book will all of his spells printed out it full.

Anyway as I noted in the other thread Alberesh emerged out of a love of Vancian Magic, not as a rather dodgy RPG mechanic but as an entire cultural view of the world and a 1 year long email Chain letter in which 3 wizards, JibbaJibba, DamberVance and Protopis III, argued and tried to out do each other in terms of well Magical insanity I might post a bit of JibbaJibba's correspondance later.

Anyway when my Uncle died, I had dragged him over to the Dark side and he had become a regular player (Luke his Amberite Prince being his last charcter of note) , we started holding annual memorial games with his ashes there in an urn as honoured guest. These were Monsters double 14 hour sessions over a weekend.

The Wizards games come from those. They were lighthearted and ridiculously powerful but of course all legal.
Alberesh started as a 15th Level Diviner he is now 20th level.
His contingencies, permanencies, spells above 7th level and some of his equipment but not all was acquired through play. All spells went through % chance to know each listed a side effect of this is he has very few evocation spells. No Fireball, Lightning bolt, etc Doesn't need them of course but .. I can post the contents of his books and his current memorised spells if you like.

So this is not CharOped in a 3e sense but it is charoped in a what would a 20th level Wizard with some free time and a lot of spells do to prep himself for an adventure.

Str : 12
Int:18
Wis 15
Con : 16
Chr: 12
Dex: 12

HP 55 (currently 39 so he has taken damage but I have no idea how on earth that could have happened....)

Character - unusually Alberesh is an out doors man His motto is never make an important decision without first taking a brisk walk. He uses a Geomancer Kit and is a specialist diviner.

Preparations

Already Cast Rary's Urgent Utterance & teleport

Permanencies
Truesight
Ironguard
Comprehend Languages
Rary's Memonic Enhancer
Non-Detection
Gaze Reflection - this one to counteract DamberVances 's love of pet Basilisks.

These Permanencies use up 8 of his 16 available slots and reduce his System shock by 20%

Contingencies
1.  If he makes the symbol Habast on his hand it trigers Manachat's Protective Aura
2. If reduced to 50% HP - automatic fly spell
3. In attacked by undead - Ward against Undead
4. If affectred by a spell that prevents his spell casting ability - remove curse
5. If blinded  - wizard eye
6. if falling more than 10 feet -fly
7. if reduced to less than 40% HP - cast Medium Dave's Stony Glance (a 6th level spell that mimics a medusa's gaze for 3 rounds

Chain Contingencies
1. If rendered physically unable to act
i. Cast Prismatic Spray
ii. Cast Ottiluke's Diamond screen - as a circle round self

2. If targeted sucessfully by an ememy spell
i. Cast Globe of invulnerability
ii. Cast remove Curse

3. If Timestop cast by somebody else (usually during private ballots and votes)
i. Cast Rary's replay of the past
ii. Cast Rary's Mind Scan
iii. Cast Divination enhancement

In addition Alberesh carires a large amethyst which holds the Demon Rawiarcaxx (HD 14 HP 80, AC 0, Att: 1-8/1-8/2-12, Flight, 3 times a day flame strike as cleric of the same level)  entrapped by an ensnarment spell.
When the Shit really hits the fan Alberesh will crush the gem and release a really pissed off demon and hope to escape in the ensuing chaos.

:)

Seriously bringing his ashes along to a game Session really was something he would have majorly dug. Better than sitting on top of the Mantlepiece right ?

As a Buddhist I can only say that should he stumble across this thread some years from now, he will probably dig it more than being a living room ornament.

Having the ashes of the departed Uncle at the table during memorial games is actually pretty cool. :)

I was always suspicious the death was a clever ploy. He has previously faked the death of Luke in the Amber game and disguised himself as one of his courtiers.....

turned out that no he was just dead :(
