I just set a chair on my Dragon Age RPG Set 2 Box...

...and I was able to push it back into shape. Yeah, it's creased, but still completely intact.

My TSR boxed sets used to split when I was putting them back into the closet.

Point for you, Green Ronin.

Not strictly related, but when the heck is boxed set 3 out?

I am a huge Dragon Age Setting fanboy, but I did not want to start a campaign without boxed set 3.

Woulda' killed them to release the complete game in one large set, right? :)

No release date yet, from what I can tell.  It was in open playtest as of an April update in the GR forums.

Sorry to hear about "chair meets box" but glad to hear that the box mostly bounced back. :-)

I have DA set #1 and haven't played it yet, but it looks pretty cool. I haven't gotten around to buying set #2 becasue I figured I should play some low-level sessions before moving up to mid-level. Is there anything key in set #2 that I ought to have for a low-level game?

The expanded stunt tables are nice.

nice one, Tommy!  yeah, i had to coddle my old tsr boxes.  the one i have for run out the guns, however, seems to be as durable as your DA one.

is DA set one levels 1-5?  what's in set two?

Sadly, there is a ton of stuff in set 2 that I would consider core.

Backgrounds, spells, stunts, GREY WARDENS, and more stuff I am forgetting.

I am going to hold out for set 3. It will be a complete game then.

Levels 6-10 are also present in Box 2, aside from what Bill mentioned.

I don't have a PROBLEM with the three box release (the final two boxes are being condensed into one), but I do agree that the division on some of the stuff is...odd.

But yeah, for Set 2 low level play, the big things that jump out are backgrounds and expanded stunts. Grey Wardens is a little iffier. I would have thought they would have put it into Box 1, but I can see low level games not using it (or games never using it).

Whats funny is, I said early on in the DA forums on GR site, that if they did not release the game in one book with levels 1-20 all done at once, the damn thing would take forever and be dragged out by the powers that be over at BioWare and that is exactly whats happened, but nobody at GR wanted to listen to me, so now everyone has to wait forever as the game slowly dies on the vine as people slowly loose interest in it.  My group gave up on it and moved on to other newer games that are complete.

Do the expanded stunt table have better stuff for magic?

Nah, it's adding stunts for exploration and roleplaying.

Played around with character creation today, making an Elven Apostate Mage and a Tal-Vashoth Rogue.

Character generation was cool. Quick random rolls, the Background tables providing extra customization...I was done pretty quick. Reminded me of the better days of AD&D2e for me.

Best part is that all the extra cool bits I like from the Dragon Age games that Green Ronin left out, fans have done and the Dragon Age Oracle site has posted them.

Hoping to give it a go, either with my kid or online (probably using Roll20).

Thread Necro here.

I ran the game last night, breaking the "RPG Cherry" for one of my best friends, as he played with me and two of my longtime players. None of us had played DA before, and only two of us have any experience with the video games (I'm a big Dragon Age geek)...we had a freakin' blast. Everyone was popping every time doubles were rolled and stunts were busted out, we had some fantastic interplay back and forth between the characters (who had the most interesting moral compasses I have seen in a long time), and I haven't laughed so hard in ages.

And I think the first-time player is sold, because he's been referencing his character non-stop since the session ended.

That sounds pretty awesome!

I hadn't really paid any attention to DA, partially because I've got something like five thousand rpgs, and partially because I haven't ever played the electronic game.  But I saw it played on Tabletop recently, and it looked like fun.  We'll see.

With any luck, I'll get to run it again. I could see it shooting up my list of favorite systems pretty easily. The whole session, including character generation, was about five hours. Only game I own that plays that smooth is Savage Worlds, and our first time with it certainly didn't go as smooth as this.
