Title: How is the Black Company RPG?
Post by: Mishihari on April 13, 2021, 12:02:42 AM
I'm a huge fan of the Black Company books by Glen Cook, and just learned that Green Ronin did an RPG version some time ago.  Does anyone know how well it was done?  I'm tempted to pick one up, but it's a little pricey for an impulse purchase.

Overall, I liked it at the time, but it may not be what you're looking for. It's very much a product of its 3E time. Just going off of memory, it's more of a player's handbook than a campaign resource. There are classes and feats, etc. plus a points-based magic system for handling the range between say, One-Eye and Silent (again, going off decades old memories) and a Taken or the Lady. If you have any specific questions, I'll look in the book when I have time.

Sadly, no. I bought a copy at Half-Price Books years ago, but never played it. If it's the typical D20 OGL stuff, then it'll respect the books that it was based on, but not much more.
