Title: High-level DCC play?
Post by: RPGPundit on March 16, 2015, 01:29:23 AM
Have any of you done it?  In my current campaign, PCs have gotten up to as high as 6th level, and the amount of damage they can do at that level (the middle of the road as far as the 0-10 level spread of DCC goes) is just INSANE.

It seems like as a wizard you could try and lay off the magic casting til you got a few levels under your belt and then toss out some low-level spells at the highest result effects fairly regularly and at a reduced risk.  Have you seen that at your table?

We only got to third level, so no high-level problems surfaced.

Well, a lot of the wizards in my group tend to be the younger players, so they were slinging as many spells as they could right from the start.  What I have found is that after about level 3 the "low-level" spells make the spellcasters killing-machines.
Mind you, fighters are very impressive too.

I have found that a level in DCC is roughly two levels in most other editions, so a 6th level DCC character scales to somewhere around 12th in most games.

I agree, at those levels characters can do a lot.

As much gonzoid fun as I had playing zero to second level DCC... high level must be like the Masters of the Universe on bathtub meth.

I'd pay to see that.

Check out my "DCC updates" on my blog.  Particularly the recent ones.  The PCs have often been able to take on big hordes of opponents.  75 zombies, heavily-armed gangsters, etc.

Even back at 4th level, our 10 year old player's wizard was able to singlehandedly wipe out a dungeon with some high hit-dice monsters.  Any spellcaster with magic missiles can do 40 or 50 points of damage in a round on a fairly regular basis.
