Title: Has anyone ever run a mini campaign, about the dwarves that dug too deep?

Of course I mean the general story of what happened in the run up to, and during the peak of; Moria's heyday.  The awakening and emergence of the Balrog.  The glorious fight which ensued, for the future of Moria.

People went crazy over the SotDL RPG, and its predetermined apocalyptic destiny.

Why not join in the hopeless fight, during Moria's downfall?  Talk about some glorious, no holds barred, tee it high and let it fly heroic scenery!!!  Of course you lose, but see how far you can go before meeting your heroic end.

Bifurcate the Duergar race.  Have the duergar who escaped but then there were those who stayed behind.  You could do all sorts of stuff with them being slaves of Mind Flayers that long.

The imagery of the Balrog challenging Gandalf the Grey, was totally awesome on screen.  The flaming sword, the cracking of the flaming whip, the open mouth filled with flaming fire, the shadow which he was wrapped in, etc.  The perfect imagery, of chaos.  The dwarves would have been in a panic, but they fought to stand their ground anyway.  A terrible, but heroic slaughter.  So sad, but memorable.  To stand shoulder to shoulder with them!!!
