This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Generic RPG idea: EDCs and their effects.

EDC meand 'every day carry" and it's a little(?) kit some people carry for everyday survival or in event of a crisis. There's a million youtube videos from well intended people who want to teach you how to make, carry and use one.

Here's a good one:

You can look up countless more. I was thinking of these in RPG terms here. Maybe people could make them for their favorite game settings and explain what;s in them and what effects they'd have in game terms.

The standard EDC for an adventuring party might put the survivalist community to shame I reckon! Look, its on my character sheet and everything... An enterprising PI character used to carry a roll of wrapping paper and a jar of vaseline in his car, slather the sealant on one side of the paper, apply to window, and break without noise.
"These children are playing with dark and dangerous powers!"
"What else are you meant to do with dark and dangerous powers?"
A concise overview of GNS theory.

You can do the same thing with duct tap though and it has a thousand other uses. Most things in the modern age can be fixed with a multitool, a ball of string and a roll of duct tape. I do like cable ties as well though.

And here was I, thinking, "Ok, that would be a set of TWERPS, two or three d10s, and a few printouts of One-Page-Dungeons..."

...

"Oh, you mean EDC's for characters..."
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.
(Beware. This is a Kickstarter link.)

You have to remember one thing: Reality uses encumbrance rules.

If you're using a system that doesn't sure you can have an unlimited EDC, but if you're going for some realism you need to keep it smaller than a steamertrunk.

True but even beyond that a PC is going to have far fewer compunctions about carrying equipment that most sane people wouldn't for fear of the legal consequences. Like a hand grenade.

I've seen lots of these sorts of kits, usually called "adventuring kits", for D&D.
