To me, it's very disappointing, I was/am a big fan of Interface Zero, but this level obtuse non-reasoning grosses me out. As if removing *police* from a cyberpunk-genred game somehow is giving justice to the situation on *any* side of the equation - but let's be clear the side he's on is with the looters, protesters and anyone non-white, since he literally apologizes for being white.

It's gross. Narcissistic. Short-sighted and bigoted in its own right. Sure he apologized, which matters, but he apparently is consumed enough to not be able to tell the difference between fantasy and reality and his place in producing entertainment over people *actually* suffering and dying in the line of duty and at the hands of morons on either side of the issue. Even in his backhand apology and other comments he made in the section he says he "doesn't like having to do it."

I personally am fine with the apology, but these days too much ground has been given to this ideology not only in our hobby, but in the country writ-large for me to monetarily support him. It's a shame. It's his choice to not want my money. Fair play.

I believe white people are feeling some guilt pangs right now. There's a lot of desire to apologize and to find a way to be a positive impact on the situation vs. condoning it with silence. I feel like this is a good sign. Of course, we (white people) should likely just shut the fuck up and listen vs. pointless hand-wringing. At this point apologies seem somewhat lacking in gravitas compared to all the past crimes committed. Maybe forging a new future would make for a better apology? Like, doing something vs. virtual signaling?

I simply would have stated;

"I believe Black Lives Matter and I oppose all police brutality. There is a campaign style in my work centered around playing law enforcement. My hope is that people will see this for what it is - an attempt to offer ideas on how to use this setting in different campaigns. How you use it, or if you use it, are up to you. I see exploring dark subjects as a cathartic release for my anger, anxiety, and imagination. I don't expect everyone to share my opinions or my approach. I thought, under the current circumstances, it was fair to warn you so you could avoid that section if you believe reading it would upset you. Thank you for backing my project and I hope you all will continue to support my future endeavors."

My friend called me up the other day to have a moment of silence for the Drow (his favorite bad guys). He is also an original Dead Lands fan and loves the original setting. He laments all this revisionist erasing of things in the name of inclusion. He said something along the lines of "pretending that slavery, racism, and fascism didn't happen is more insulting than understanding that it did happen". I tend to agree.

I don't want to dismiss the complaints of BIPOC seeing some of these elements as emotionally off-putting either. I'm not a BIPOC so I can't really speak to those feelings. But I think those feelings are valid. I don't see the point of erasing everything from a game, but I could understand why someone may not want to play that game if it bothers them. The existence of fiction, fantasy, and make-believe dealing with a dark subject is not condoning that dark subject. I wish I could convince the outrage brigade there is a difference there. But they are angry...

There's a hysterical video from CHAZ/CHOP where one of their "leaders" demands all the evil palefaces in earshot give $10 each to a "person of color" before they leave Soyattle for the day. I was all-in for Interface Zero 2.0, but the way GMG squandered 4-5 years trying to port the setting to every system in existence rather than delivering all the stuff they promised to make completely soured me on the game. That plus the change to SWADE (which I don't care for) meant that I skipped on the new Kickstarter, but given the sort of stuff I've seen Jarvis mention in the past it doesn't surprise me at all that he feels this way. It sucks because I feel Interface Zero has a ton of potential, but Jarvis is the game's worst enemy. He's never satisfied and is constantly redoing or outright scrapping rules even when they're perfectly fine to begin with.

On a slightly related note, I just found out that The Thin Blue Line, a Savage Worlds game where you play as police in Detroit, quietly vanished from the Internet a few months ago. It makes me really glad I got everything for it back when it first came out.

Actually, I was looking forward to this as well... If I had of backed it, I'd be pretty pissed off because he's changed the books contents. And therefore, the contract between buyer and seller. Sure, he can change it, but I'd want my money back immediately. I would not support him in the future.
