This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I have been looking through these boards and have found very little on these kinds of games. Are they unwelcome, unpopuler, or am I just unluckey at this time in finding them? I play alot of World of Darkness and Call of Cthulhu (old editions hate d20) and was hoping to see more of it. But I did not want to post alot about them if they are taboo or unwelcome here.

If they are welcome I would like to here from those that play them and what they are playing now? Thanks for your time.

Well, last week we did take them out back and beat them with a bag of oranges...

Call of Cthulhu actually won the "most popular" game here when we ran that contest a while ago.  I play a lot of WoD, or at least I did until recently, and I certainly own a lot of the books.

I wouldn't say those games are unpopular here, but they don't get a lot of love.  I want you to post a lot about those types of games, so I can talk about them!  And welcome to theRPGsite!

Welcome to theRPGsite, Crawdadr!

I would describe myself as a World of Darkness and conspiracy gaming fan.  I usually have something to say, but WoD is a common topic at RPG.net and I tend to say my bit there.

Their here. I think your just unlucky at this time finding them. There was just recently a horror thread about a creature from jumpspace. Granted it was a travller thread. But it specifically it was a horror thread just the same.
All else fails, start a thread. Talk about they will come.

Well that is fantastic then :D . Where to begin, hmm ok lets work with Call of Cthulhu then. My most recent game was with Zombies but that one I feel will end up being a one shot adventure. My next game I am planning continuing a campain with a couple of friends.

I have them set up in mid 1920s arkham as private detectives. There last two stories have involved mostly mundane threats and advisaries. But in the last game they encoutered their first glimpse of some cultists (nethrohotep followers). My four investigaters are a mix of ex wwI vets and a secretary with more balls then brains (she would not aprieciate that analagy). How do you all handal the introduction too the Mythos in a way that is not overwhelming yet still mysterious? I have used the old wise man bit that feeds players informations so that is what they are expecting. The zombie game they did not have any time or options for information but that was more a city crawl and not true Cuthulu.

My players are very experianced in games and have had some contact with the mythos so I would prefer to supprise them. They know me and my normal intros (they refuse to read book now unless ordered too lol) So I would like some fresh takes on things. Thanks and love hearing from you all.

P.s. Sorry cant spell and I refuse too learn at such a late date.

I'll give up my profound love for Conspiracy-X 2.0 and All Flesh Must Be Eaten, here.  I also dig on Call of Cthulhu D20, but have resigned myself to the fact that I'll likely never get to play it.

Oh and I'm currently playing in a Silent Hill game run by a friend who's using the (blech) old Storyteller system.

I'm currently running a Hunter campaign informed by the films of early John Carpenter...not strictly oWoD simply because I never really dug the oWoD setting.

If you ever leave crazy-fornia for the staid and respectable South(ern Illinois) you could play CoC d20.  I'm also looking for more people to excited about it...my players would play it if I ran it, but they wouldn't be all AMPED about it like C&C or some other games.

I don't have anything against Horror as such; I think every gamer should have some edition of Call of Cthulhu in their RPG library even if they're unlikely to ever play the game.  I just don't have the mindset to really do Horror -- I tend to crack wise during a session too much for even a good old fashioned dungeoncrawl (though I'm getting better...I think).

I enjoy reading Lovecraft, I like to study Conspiracy Theory and WoD gets a thumbs up (but wallet closed) from me.  I just picked up Laws' Esoterrorists and I'm digging it but that was more a pickup to see Hite's eventual take on CoC later this year.

I'm currently running a V:tR game. I dig most hings White-Wolf puts out. I love CoC D20 however :)

On a wholly unrelated note, are there any editions of CoC that make the characters slightly more powerful, such that they fall into the "Oh shit, we're overmatched" category of things? I borrowed CoC d20 from a buddy to peruse and the charcters there were more of a "Don't bother" power level.

I get the rough sense of where he's going, maybe. If it's anything like the difference between "raided a degenerate cult", "dealt with a shoggoth (with casualties), and "pantsed Cthulhu and stole his hat". I think he's finding them so grossly outmatched that even the former is a disaster best left to the authorities, but would sooner they be closer to the second, while Exalted looks a lot like the third.
