Here's my newest video, on running a Gonzo game for OSR or D&D. What to do if you want a long-term campaign in this genre, and what not to do!

This video made me finally bite the bullet and pick up "Dungeon Crawl Classics". I don't regret it.
If we're talking gonzo done right, Venger's The Islands of Purple-Haunted Putrescence (https://www.amazon.com/Islands-Purple-Haunted-Putrescence-Venger-Satanis/dp/1500121592) setting kicks so much ass. DCC has some good gonzo modules, but they rarely go beyond Thundarr or other TV cartoons in their "gonzo". Lots of cool stuff, but very little fucked up imagery. I've enjoyed DCC stuff, but I never went "oh fuck, that's messed up" like when reading Cha'alt. Whereas Venger goes nutball gonzo, much more in the vein of Heavy Metal magazine, trippy 70s drug trip underground comic books, Cronenberg movies and much darker gonzo.

I can't imagine anyone who doesn't despise gonzo ending up regretting its purchase.

Yes, the Islands is a great gonzo book. Still the best thing Venger ever did. His new Chaalt book is also gonzo, but somewhat dumber gonzo, still really well written if you like that more silly kind of gonzo.
