Title: Getting the most out of trip attacks
Post by: Yig on June 01, 2006, 12:48:31 PM
I'm playing an half-ogre barbarian who's using a halberd.

When I'm raging, my trip check is +22. I have Improved Trip and an armband of might (+2 to Str check and other stuff).

Is there any other feats, spells, magic items, weapon properties that could increse my trip check?

Doesn't spike chain also give you +2 on trips and disarms?

Plus it can be used both at 10' range and 5'.  So if you attack someone at 10' and they move in they provoke an attack of opportunity.

I know all that about the chain, in another campaign I play a fighter using a chain.

For a lil variety (and lack of feats), I picked the halberd.

How would you price a weapon property that gives a bonus on trip check?

I would make it analogous to the disarming weapon property (complete warrior) in cost.

If you've got a decent Dexterity bonus, pick up Combat Reflexes...  Trip them again as they stand.

Then, go get yourself bitten by a were-wolf...  :heh:

Don't work for 2 reasons:

1- The opponent is still considered on the ground when he generate the AoO so you can't trip him.

2- I play in a campaign without AoO :)

Hmmmm... That would be funny.

Magic of Faerun had a property to help with Tripping as I recall.

An Enlarging magic item is very helpful for a trip based character.  And Shock Trooper (tactical feat) from Complete Warrior lets you do some interesting things with Trip attacks as well.

Finally there are a couple of feats that limit movement and provoke additional attacks that work well for a trip based character in a couple of different sources.
