I will never show my medical history to attend a game convention or any other event.

cool story bro. I guess school was not an event, or did you not go to a school which required vaccination records?
I've attend hundreds of school events and never had to show my papers.

Not the school events - the school. Schools require vaccination records when you first get into them. Generally they require records on:

Polio.
Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP)
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
Hepatitis B.
Varicella (Chickenpox)

If you were cool showing records to attend school, why is it a massive denial of freedom to show the same kind of record to attend a gaming event?

Gen Con is also requiring you to show your papers to gain entry.

When has a convention not required you to show your papers to gain entry? No badge, no entry. That's...the entire purpose of the badge. Or are you saying showing more papers (a vax card) is some major burden in addition to your badge? Because, having had to show both before, they can even hang in the same lanyard together.
I will never show my medical history to attend a game convention or any other event.

cool story bro. I guess school was not an event, or did you not go to a school which required vaccination records?

And all conventions, stores, etc ALWAYS asked you for proof of vaccination...

Did you or did you not attend a school which required your vaccination records in order to attend?

Did conventions, stores, etc never required proof of vaccination to attend?

And the coof isn't nearly as bad for children as those diseases we vaccinate children against.

If it's not clear to you yet:

This is a false equivalence, because of the severity of those diseases (and the vaccines for those worked in giving you immunity) and because we're talking about conventions, which NEVER had asked for proof of vaccination for anything.

And you guys have lots of real anti-vaxers there who haven't been vaccinated against polio, etc.

So if they don't ask proof of vaccination for those when those vaccines do give you immunity why do they ask it for the coof?

My boy, fully vaccinated, isolated for a long ass while and going out only wearing a mask and only for important stuff, just got the Kung-Flu. And they themselves tell you the vaccine doesn't prevent you from getting sick nor from passing it around.

So, vaccinated people can get it and pass it around just like non-vaccinated people. But you're okay with discriminating because reasons.

I'm fully vaccinated, didn't get whatever paper my government wanted me to get, because freedom and because fuck that noise. If any bussiness demands proof of vaccination they'll loose my money, because freedom and because fuck them and all the authoritarians demanding compliance and submission.

Origins is also requiring face masks and proof of vaccination for attendees.
Proof of vaccination was apparently not a problem for their October event.

According to Mistwell this is perfectly fine because schools or something and we all should get used to the new normal of pappiere bitte if we wish to engage in civil life, and those untermensch unvaccinated people shouldn't be allowed on the gaming coinventions of the ubermensch decent folk.

Um... You ARE aware of just how deadly this thing can be right?

Im guessing not.

My aunt was one of the 'believers' and refused to wear a mask, no vaccination, and went to all sorts of social gatherings.

She died of Covid about 2 months ago. It was not a pretty way to go either. At least it was relatively fast.

Now to be fair my home town has an insanely high Covid death rate for some reason.

But considering what massive disease vectors cons are. (I used to get massively sick after, and once during, ever GenCon I ever went to, and pretty much half the others too...) Part of me thinks proof of vaccination at all should be required.

Unfortunately I know all too well that the murder cultists out there would just fake a pass to get in and spread it if they could.

Um, are you aware who makes up over 70% of the deaths? Older or fat or otherwise unheathy people. Wanna stop them from dying? Without destroying the economy and lives of everybody else?

Try this as a con regulation: No person over 60 years old, no person overweight and no person with diabetes, hearth, etc pre existing conditions may enter unless they sign a waver relieving the convention of any and all resposability.

Now you're both protecting the most vulnerable while at the same time preserving the freedoms of them and everybody else.

And I will not say much more because I risk straying away from gamming.

Thank to the pandemic, discrimination based on all kinds of arbitrary criteria isn't just permitted, it's vociferously defended!

I'm waiting for a convention that requires all attendees to sign an oath of fealty to BLM.

Yeah, I would also frequently get sick after going to gaming conventions. In my circles, the phenomenon was called "con crud". For the last few years pre-pandemic, I would always get my flu shot before going to conventions -- especially because I have some gaming friends who are immuno-compromised. It's never deterred me, but I've tried to keep infection in mind as I attend.

Both Origins And GenCon are gatekeeping.  The requirement to present vaccine papers disproportionately affects people of color.
BTW the Columbus Convention Center does not have vaccine paper requirements for entry, this is solely a creation of Origins.

Well, I have a different take.  If you feel it is that dangerous there should be ZERO cons.  I agree with you about a large con being a massive germ fest (I got a touch of the crud back in 2016 at Gen Con) and there is no plausible reason, beyond a money grab for a con, and its organizers to even have an event IF they also believe this disease is so dangerous that proof of vaccination is needed to attend (and since Vaccines do zero for spreading covid, and as it turns out very little to lessen Omicron impact) it is a con that simply should not happen.

I would also ask, did your Aunt have any other issues that could cause her problems from getting Covid?  I ask not to be insensitive, as I also know a person who has died from Covid, but I only know one, and I know ALOT of people who have had covid (and 90 percent of them not vaxxed when they got it) including myself and my immediate family.   So i would never say it can not be dangerous, but, danger is relative.  Running 2 miles is zero danger for a relatively fit person.  It can be a death sentence for a long term couch potato.

What's the Venn diagram look like for fat people, unhygienic people, and those who have no social manners who attend conventions.  I'm not talking about the merely fat, those who might do with a bit more deodorant on a hot summer afternoon, or the socially awkward.  I'm talking 409 lbs while diving into big macs, smelling like curdled milk mixed with bum piss, and the "this close to being institutionalized types who make up the majority of the mask mandate mafia" types of attendees.  I'm talking *real* specimens of defective humanity.

I think if you eliminated all of them from attending for their own health and safety, you'd be out of business  tout de suite...  Hence, we are where we are right now...
