My friend.

The dude was a legend. Both Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson will be missed.
I only wish I could've met either one of them in person before they passed on.
The campaign in Heaven must be into Immortals levels by now! Thanks Gary for bringing us this incredible hobby.
Rest in piece and god bless Gary Gygax.
Agreed, my General. What I still find amazing about him was that he was always unfailingly nice, polite, and kind to me even though he was fully aware that I worked for Dave and Phil. First Gen Con at Parkside, he walked up to me and said "You're the guy who does Barker's miniatures, right? Then this is for you from me." He handed me this, and walked away as I stammered my thanks:

It'll go to my grandkids, and if they don't want it it'll go to his kids.

Finish your fucking memoirs already! Leave a legacy that the stick up one's ass about RPGs is optional and unnecessary! Do it before RPG tomes evolve into cults and religions, used as justification to slaughter unbelievers 1000 years in the future!
Somewhere in my moms house is a letter from Gary. I wrote to him to get advice on becoming a game writer. It was for a career guidance class.
I didn't get a response back in time. Later I discovered I had written it just a couple weeks before the whole fiasco of his ouster. The letter I got back was pretty negative, and frankly, understandably so. I need to find that.
Mr Gygax brought more collective hours of joy to the human race than any 50 politicians and intellectuals you could name.

I'm sorry; are you speaking to me or to Gronan?
Both? :D

Oh, well, in that case...
My memoirs will be out when they are good and ready, and not before.
Yes, both of you wanker geezers.
The future death cults need your wisdom!
A prolific designer and writer ofgames, RPGs, books and modules. And quite an adventure he lived to create with Dave one of the most influential new games ever, see run his own company and see it take off. Then see the intense machinations go on behind the scenes worthy of a some Machiavellian tale and survive it in exile while the usurpers degenerated into abject failure.
An impressive legacy.
Eh? I spent the weekend gaming...

Wow, it's been a decade already. It feels so recent. RIP.
Thank you Gary for the past 35 years of having one hell of an adventure after another, for all the laughter and joy around the table:) Thank you so very much!
It's pretty hard to even think what other activity could have engrossed me like RPGs have. A toast to the man, but what substance would be appropriate?
Glad to see this kind of homage. Cheers for Gary!
St. Gary, hallowed be thy d20,

Great convention, isn't it? I had a blast when we went last year! :)

14 years sober, but I'd toast a virtual cognac to the man. I think I opened one recently, given that David Ogden Stiers just passed. :D

Good Lord, there was a gaming con right here in Cincinnati over the weekend, and I never even knew it! I probably wouldn't have been able to attend due to work and my gaming group meeting, but still shocking. Maybe next year...
The importance of what GG and Co did, for a kid like me in the 80s, cannot be understated. RIP indeed.

for me it can't be overstated! ;)
Yeah, I spent many hours of my youth drawing dungeons and pouring over books of arcane lore and imagining taking part in epic quests of exploration...and not nearly enough actually playing the game unfortunately. But even so, GG's creations provided endless grist for the mill of my imagination.

Yes, it's surprisingly big, with an attendance of 1300-1500 through the weekend. I had a good time going this year after being invited by one of the organizers, Last year I just missed it. Learned about the convention date on that Sunday afternoon of the weekend that CincyCon IX ran.
Thanks for the memories. Salute.

Gronan, I'm very sorry about the loss of your friend. I hope it brings some comfort that he touched, in a positive way, the lives of so many people all over the world.
Gary was one of my heroes. I was lucky enough to score a signed copy of his last RPG, The Lejendary Rules For All Players. I wish I had had the chance to meet him!

Damn right!
No, wait! They're supposed to write memoirs to stave off this dystopian future! :(
You need to write in a voice that tells future death cults the wisdom of... not starting their future death cults. :o Oh dear, it's a bit redundant. It might start a schism.
The whole hobby certainly is thanks to him, above all others. That said, his post-mortem cult does sometimes grate.

Celebrity status, and how some people react to it, of all types, grate. People want someone to be hero or monster. They can't just be a (historically important in their field) person.

Well, to me Gygax was certainly something of a hero. I'm tremendously grateful he existed. He's just not a God.
