This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

If you could hand out a copy of a free RPG to everyone...

Bullitt

I'd give away something completely esoteric, like Skyships, to a non-gamer, for my own personal amusement.

Quote from: Zachary The First...which one would it be?  Which would you hand out to gamers as opposed to non-gamers?  What "diamond in the rough" out there just needs a little momentum and exposure?

Non-Gamers: TWERPS
Gamers: Hero's Banner

But the logic isn't totally wrong. But then the solution isn't vampires, but cowboys! Come on, they're even the default explanation for role-playing... Now if there only were a good non-OOP wild west RPG without any foreign factors (i.e. not you, Deadlands).

*cough, cough*...

Quote from: SosthenesWhat, it's historical? No cattlepunk?

No, Aces & Eights is a serious (though alternate history) western.  (Just check out the preview PDFs!)

"Cattlepunk" is still just the name of a game occasionally played by the characters of the Knights of the Dinner Table gaming magazine, like Grunge Warriors, Hacknoia, and so on.

We didn't want to create a "jokey" western game, though we might possibly make a "Cattlepunk" supplement for people who want ideas for a humor-filled western.

Actually, the funny thing is that the fictional "Cattlepunk" game played by the Knights doesn't seem to have ANY fantastic or humorous elements in it at all. The humor arises from the GM thinking "Whew, got them away from that hack'n'slash fantasy game to do a 'serious' setting and game, now we'll see some 'real' roleplaying and storyte--OHMYGAWDthey just shot everyone in the saloon including all the prostitutes and the sheriff's 9 year old son and burned down the townOHWHYGAWDWHY??!"

So anyway. It would be nice to try a "straight" Western game sometime. Or "straight" modern for that matter. Not that I'd have much chance with my player group. they only let me get away with Over the Edge 'cause of all the wierdness.
