She knows her shit -- I approve.
Got an actual opinion, shares her background/experience, highlights good and bad; why has it taken until now for someone to do an earnest vid on this game?
Sometimes YouTube's related videos algo actually recommends content I want to consume...
(Also, while I appreciate GrimJim did a vid on the book in a recent thread... it's GJ. And it was just another rant on the politics surrounding the game. Fuck's sake...)
Superb overview, indeed. Thanks, PrometheanVigil !
Yeah it's a good review.
What happened to written reviews?
I feel old.
Edit: It is a very good review (from the section I had the patience to watch) - I'd still rather read it.
I subbed.

I still mostly do written reviews, but I've done a couple of video reviews for products that I felt would fit well with that. I think a reviewer should carefully consider this, as there's a lot of books that need the detail of a written review, while others lend themselves well to including visual elements from a video.
This is a really good review... A lot better then GJ's, as it goes into some detail about the mechanics in relation to V20, and some of the re-imagining of the disciplines, etc.
So, nothing particularly 'mind blowing' from a game that has such an illustrious history and a wealth of player's feedback to delve into. Sounds like they made a few okay tweaks and that was about it... And of course bent the knee to please the SJW crowd by changing a few of the clans.
Oh and what a joy, the new meta plot is now as heavy as the old one... Didn't they ever realize that, 'less is more' and that the meta plot was the downfall of the original.
It also sounds like an incomplete book as she pointed out with the lack of information for new players. In fairness though, I'd say Vamp has never been all that easy to get into as it has a lot of internal working parts.
Also, I personally, don't like the new direction they are taking the dreaded meta plot. It sounds like they are trying to do a reboot by cutting the gnads of some of the factions and the elders. You shouldn't have let the genie out of the bottle in the first place. Oh wait! That's how you sell splat book after splat book after splat book after splat book after splat book.
Probably a good step for the new players. But of course, that's who WW really wanted to get anyway.
Meh...
YouTube has much better reviews of games than the old cut-n-paste text sites that still linger.

Youtube reviews for some games CAN be good, but I've seen plenty that were awful. And likewise, there's a lot of great text reviews on this site.

I agree. I like written reviews in that they tend to be more-thought out.
There are a couple of video reviewers that I go to, that I feel will be honest about a game (and their own biases) enough to trust. I rather like Kurt Wiegel's reviews.

Ha ha... I'm the same! I bought a shed load of Savage Worlds stuff too. I love Deadlands HoE.
A pox on Kurt for making me poor! ;)
The big problem I am seeing with this new version of the game is: The fact that it is written for an audience that is assumed to have prior knowledge of the setting. Rather than serving as an introduction for new gamers who have no prior experience with the product or setting at all.
To me. It is a pretty damning failure for a core rulebook to make.

Like I've said before, it depends a lot if the product in question benefits from being able to visually show it off more than go into textual detail about its contents. In my experience, a lot of products benefit more from the latter.

Best reviews around IMHO are Ten Foot Pole and they are text.
I have been followung Kurt for years and IIRC he has only done a critical review on 4e, so he tends to give good summaries of a product (and I enjoy them and find them useful) rather than give an evaluation with a star rating.
Questing Beast tends to be a bit more "this is the good and this is the bad" but Ben reviews exclusively OSR things and tends to favour artsy stuff.
Yes, you can certainly have both.
