This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Hard to keep track of?  Tell me more -- we've run a half dozen sessions so far and haven't run into this as a problem yet.

Oh, you know, I hafta have three Fairs before I can have two Goods. I'm finding it difficult (forme atleast) to keep the pyramid "balanced" as I build a character from phase to phase. The whole "Make a check-mark" thing is...it's not helping me.

Can't you just find what the final scores *would* be if you maxed the pyramid... and then just not do the step-by-step thing, but rather spread your skills around in any way you see fit as long as you don't go higher than that pyramid max?

What's the problem with doing something like that, besides taking out the "organic growth" part of Chargen?

None at all. I'm just trying to get down with the "Organic Growth" thing, really, because I think it's neat.

It's just...unwieldy.

Ah, okay, we're play Spirit of the Century and we just write the skill pyramid after all five phases are written.  I'm not sure the approach you're using actually adds anything and it does sound like a pain.

I'm thinking that the "organic" approach, while interesting, is indeed too much hassle for not much return.

It's not cool, so out it goes.

The skill pyramid in FATE 2.0 is a bit different than the skill pyramid in SoTC. In SoTC you simply arrange your skills - one Great, 2 Superb (or whatever, I don't have it in front of me). In FATE 2.0, the process is a bit more flexible but has some more guidelines (like the good Dr. pointed out, you have to have three Fairs before you can have 2 Goods). Functionally, they both work out about the same but it took me a couple readings to get the gist of what FATE 2.0 was saying.

There's a document on the Website about doing the pyramid another way, Rotwang!...maybe that's more your bag?

's a pdf link. Sorry about that.
Heroism is no more than a chapter in a tale of submission.

The internet recognizes only five forms of self-expression: bragging, talking shit, ass kissing, bullshitting, and moaning about how pathetic you are. Combine one with your favorite hobby and get out there!
