This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I really like Flying Mice games

Baseball, Pundit. Baseball. I'm doing it knowing there's no market. I don't care. It's on my Bucket List! :D

I am all kinds of "What?  Why?" on this one.  I don't have any idea what the characters would do in a game about baseball, other than play ball.  It has my puzzlement.

Also: Check yer mail.

If the baseball is good enough, that's the core of it. Otherwise, chasing skirts, maintaining family relationships while you are on the road, the temptation of performance enhancing drugs, and the multitude of small scrapes people get into.

Done! I'm thinking what would be the best.

I actually think this might be fun, but I think you are right about the market. With all the drama surrounding our athletes these days, I can see a lot of possibilities.

Thanks, Brendan! This is the general line I'm thinking along. The baseball games supply the base conflict, and the players are free to explore whatever else they are interested in.

Well, it might have some viability if you do two things:

1. Have a baseball game mechanic in the book; some way that you can emulate the whole experience. Use little tokens and a map of the diamond or something like that.

2. Have meta-rules for management of the baseball team. Buying and selling players, changing cities, making endorsements, etc etc.  Not just the star players, but the team manager.  That ties into the whole "fantasy football" style stuff that a lot of people like, and the ruthless business stuff; it becomes a bit like traveller at that level, where you can play the manager trying to make his team profitable.

That's all done. The baseball emulation was the easy part.

Some of that is there, but not much. Most of that wouldn't work unless you had a full league of teams. This is an RPG, so it's designed for one group of players and a GM.

Really, I have no hopes of it being "viable". I'm writing this one purely for me, because I love the game.

You can't use random tables and NPCs to simulate a full league of teams? Won't you have to do some of this anyways, if you want to effectively emulate "playoffs" and the like?

RPGPundit

Oh, I am, and I'm giving several ways to deal with that. It's just that it's the players who are running their team trading with the GM who runs all the other teams, and that's never as much fun as players trading with players. Basically, you only need to know the GM rather than each player's idiosyncracies and preferences.

You could do it perfectly well with each player managing a team, but that's not much of an RPG, really.

Or use baseball cards?

The game doesn't use regular baseball stats.

Clash, when this is ready for playtest, put me down to try it out. I think I could get some people together who would be interested.
