This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I really like Flying Mice games

*You* make awesome games, Levi! How you always come up with these tiny clockwork jewels staggers me.

QuoteI swear, every time I run one, I meet another handful of things that cause me to raise an eyebrow.   The number of times I've thought an ability was rough  and found out it played smoothly and naturally is ridiculous.

I owe that to my ridiculously awesome group, who pry at new system things like hyper-intelligent monkeys on meth - pure gleefully innocent destructive mayhem! - until the rough spots are worn away. It has very little to do with design, and much to do with being a pebble in a tsunami.

QuoteIt's always odd to me that he doesn't have a much larger, more active fan base.

Are you saying my fans are stunted and slothful? :O

Are you saying I *HAVE* a fan base? :D

It doesn't surprise me at all. People have different tastes, and my games apparently appeal to a small, close-knit group of dignified philosophers, who quietly discuss the finer points of StarPool vs StarNova over dinners of wine, figs and grapes with their close, personal, philosopher friends. That is my personal delusion, anyway. I've built it up brick by brick out of quiet desperation and sheer willpower over the years, and I'm sticking to it.

Thanks, Brendan! We all loved the Mafia game - especially the Boston references, which were just wonderful fun for us! :D

Insufficient Metal

I really need to find time to finish my review of SC3. That thing is like four games in one, it's insane. In a good way.

I agree! And In Harm's Way: StarCluster, the military version of SC3 - is just as insane, and just as big. Using them together gives you a four by four Matrix of Madness, or sixteen times the insanity for just twice the dead weight! Nothing is more efficient at promoting healthy San loss.

I going to kill two birds with one stone and just say this: Clash, you talked to me a little bit about what you intend to do with Outremer, and I can't wait to be able to lay eyes on this thing. I think your heart and mind are in the right place, when it comes to game design.

You keep doing what you're doing, mate. You're a good guy. :)

Silverlion

Example of FM games rocking: Starcluster 3, it is the best SF game I've seen for "Here are tools to make a bad ass universe and play in it."

I get confused because of its layout/organization which could be better, other than that it really is worth its weight in gold for an SF gamer.

Oh, absolutely.  It's an amazing toolkit, between all the creation bits and the different resolution systems included.

To me, the original In Harm's Way is still my favourite of all of Clash's products, its brilliant.

Thank you, Zach and Tim! Next year I hope to see the first fruits of opening up the SC3 platform for development. Both Society of Night - a vampire game - and Look! Up in the Sky! - a supers game - are in development by third parties, using SC3 as a platform.

The original In Harm's Way was first on my bucket list of Games To Design Before I Die. The second, The Tools of Ignorance, is in development. The list represents games I passionately wanted to make, no matter whether or not there is any real market for them. There surprisingly was a market for IHW, but I doubt very much that there is much of any for ToI. :D
