Title: Exalted 2E
Post by: kanegrundar on April 03, 2006, 10:21:12 PM
I have a copy of the 1st edition rules in pdf, but I never got around to actually playing the game after I read it.  Now that the new edition is out, I'm wondering what others thought of it.  Is it good?  How much changed between editions? All that stuff.

Thanks!

I've bought it, but I haven't had the time to actually read it yet.

It'd be interesting to hear what people think about it.

it was submitted for the ENnies, but I have yet to crack it open.

I'll let you know though.

I look forward to it.  I nearly picked it up the other night, but wanted to hear what the consesus was on it.

It's a gorgeous damn book. UDON outdid themselves. It's almost worth buying just for the art.

It's on my 'to-buy' list, just haven't gotten to it quite yet.

The artwork is generally good - though some of the B&W art from 1st Ed was better.
In general, the mechanics look to have been well tightened up - which is a good thing - and charms have become more consistent. It's not entirely to my taste, because of the fact that you have such a vast number of "exceptions" (ie charms) on which the ruleset is dependent...but it is still pretty cool, and they have tried to fix most of the problems from the earlier edition.

I hope that's some help to you...

This incarnation of Exalted is far and away an improvement over the last edition.    Melee combat is refined and streamlined, the charm sets are much clearer and better written, the new social combat rules are even alot of fun to play with and  the way the product line is scheduled seems to be made for the mix and match attitude that Exalted always seemed to have.

I was always a fan of Creation, but seldom a fan of Exalted.  With this edition I may finally become a fan of both.

The rules are both streamlined and more complex, by which I mean there's rules for more things that had to be improvised in the first edition.  The charms are cleaned up and appear to have been playtested.  The addition of Mass Combat and Social Combat alone make the book far and away better than the original.   I've finished reading it and plan on playing it in the next few weeks.  I'll have more comments on the changes, especially to combat, after that.

Thanks for the info, folks.  I may have to give Exalted v2 a closer look.

Exalted combat strategy was already a finely-tuned art for a lot of players. The new combat system builds on that excellently, and my one friend that loves to discuss combat strategy regarding Exalted is very pleased.

I think it will continue to appeal to strategists while not completely screwing the non-strategic players like 1e did.

"What's that? Forgot to save an action for defense?  Ok you die now."

That's much less of an issue in 2e.
