For the old farts.
Remember in the 80s/90s the ADnD books had "DragonSkin" vinyl covers?
A bit like these:

but they had various other pictures on them like dragons and otehr fantasy related stuff.
I got those for all my ADnD books and it kept them in good condition.
Is there such a thing now?
I'm getting the 5th ed PHB tomorrow, so it would be nice to keep it protected with a cover.
They looked pretty cool too..

I've got one with a Unicorn on it, overlooking a forest on a precipice. It actually reminds me of Dragonlance art. It has the Dragonskin logo under the picture. I need to dig that up out of the attic.
No idea if you can get those these days though.

80s and 90s? Papyrus scrolls and rune carved stone tablets were good enough in my day. You kids and your new fangled sheep skins and dragon scales. :p

Completely misremembered the scene, actually. Just a unicorn in grass. Still, fits right on the 5e PHB.

I had my PHB, DMs guide, Unearthed Arcana and MM covered with DragonSkins.
I don't remember the specific designs, but they were pretty cool.
I wouldn't expect to get those exact covers again, but wondering if there's something similar out there.

Oooh nice. I might see if I can score some on ebay or something.
Hell yeah, I've got the Sign of Chaos one on my WFRP 1e.

I'm totally jealous!
I have somewhere one with a Werewolf: The Apocalypse cover.
I have the Unicorn one on my Amber diceless book and the Sign of Chaos on Shadow knight so very appropriate :)
I've got a couple of them. A word of warning if you attempt to buy them on ebay or something- RPG books have increased page count since those came out. There are lot of books that won't fit too well.
I had one of these as a kid in the eighties, with Cthulhu on it. IIRC the vinyl (Or whatever compound it was) eventually got all warped and sticky and had to be thrown out. Also, it didn't even fit the CoC rulebook.
Still a cool idea though.
Yeah, the Werewolf one bemusingly did not fit the Werewolf book.

Still available right here at Chessex:

Not as many style choices but still reasonably priced. $5.00 is what I payed for of mine 20 years ago or so.
It's a cool idea, if someone made them so they actually fit the books and they didn't dissolve.
Something simple and cool to cover the ugly as sin mass of clashing red blobs that is the D&D 5th edition PHB cover would be nice.

I used to make paper book covers. We learned that in grade school early on. It was mandatory and I used the technique for my RPG books.
I still have one on my Buffy: TVS rpg, I generally am not a fan of most licensed games covers, the BTVS cover didn't bother me, but sometimes its easier to sell a game without letting people know its origin.

Same here. Used brown paper grocery bags. If you were really fancy, used gift wrapping paper.
I sorta don't need it though as I have been trained over the years to leave my books immaculate. I don't even crease the spine of my 1000+ page trade paperbacks. Just got used to leaving them pristine, often next to incense so they are perfumed and safe from silverfish and other insects.
My home is a mausoleum to the written word... :(

What!? I have one on my Big Blue Champions book since I bought it new and it's still fine. All the ones I own are still in great condition.

Thanks, I suppose I could get some blank ones, but I miss the Fantasy designs I had on the one for my old ADnD books.

I'm a sort of half-assed, very casual toy collector. The process of plastic or vinyl getting sticky and breaking down is called "depolymerization". It's totally fickle. Sometimes it strikes certain bad batches of plastic products that had hidden contamination or production flaws, or certain colors made at certain times from certain manufacturers (For example, my older HeroClix made of translucent yellow plastic -the big Sinestro- feel sticky and sweaty to the touch- while older HCX figures of different colors are fine). Anyway, after a little less than ten years my Cthulhu dragonskin got all tacky and nasty and curled up like a pork rind. No great loss as it didn't even fit the CoC book LOL.
Yeah, I'm a toy collectors well and know what you're referring too. I've just never seen any of the Dragon Skins do that. Like I said, I have 4 of them I have had for something like 20 years and I have friend that has had a couple for just as long but neither of us have had any problems with them.
