Some interesting news from Cubicle 7: in honor of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Who, they're putting out 11 sourcebooks, one for each Doctor. They're also offering these books in a subscription mode (http://www.cubicle7.co.uk/2013/02/the-50th-anniversary-doctor-sourcebooks-%E2%80%93-subscription-deal/) for people who want to get a discounted rate on the set.

Snoopy sums up my reaction
I will require the second and fifth volumes.
Well. Cool.
Saw this today. Looks awesome. The subscription is a bit expensive for one go (but reasonable considering the number of books).

Yeah, it's a big number, but... I agree, if done well, they should be very much worth it. C7 can do really good work; I'm just skeptical about their timescales.
I'm strongly considering going for this. Very strongly.
i could never justify the subscription, but may have to get 3-5.
I'd be curious to see how many of the 8th Doctor sourcebooks actually sell.
Curious as to what the page count would look like...

Well, I wonder if they'd have access to stuff from Big Finish or the novels.

Well, its actually that or flesh out/invent a bunch of stuff about the Time War, and have the 8th doctor book double as the Time War Sourcebook... which I think, if that's the angle they take, would sell in droves...

Is this a kickstarter?
They haven't written these books yet, have they?

Heck yes. Although some of that stuff, especially the stuff mentioned in the Tennant era, I think might be more evocative if it remains suggestions rather than concrete.

As per the link, they've got text for the first six, and this is a project that has been under consideration since before the main game came out; if they devote their full efforts to it, they should be able to pull it off, as ambitious a product line as it is. It's more like an extended pre-order... or a subscription; good way to get around supplement drop-off.
I'd rather not know the history of the Time War - what "happened" shouldn't make sense to our, linear-thinking, minds, but an appropriately chaotic timeline would be a horrible project (Kinda like the Watchmen thread elsewhere, it's the sort of event that doesn't need to be explained; it happened, it was terrible, these are the results). But yeah, they're really going to have to work to bulk up that 8th Doctor book, unless they get the Big Finish license too (And the BBC seems to consider the audio stuff even less "canon" than the TV series).
maybe vol. 8 will be a 32 page freebie ;)

With a bunch of "Not Canon" warnings? Maybe they could combinme it with a sourcebook on Rowan Atkinson's turn as The Doctor...or the Peter Cushing Doctor Who films.

Actually, an "alternate takes on the Doctor" sourcebook might not be a bad idea.

...Oh my glob. I don't even BUY gaming materials if I can avoid it and I'd buy that in a heartbeat.

I'm sure that is what the book will cover.
But for me, since it never got filmed, I'd much prefer it to remain a mystery... Now, if they ever go back and actually tell the story in movie or mini-series, then I'd watch it in a New York minute... But I think the "not knowing" lends an air of mystery that could be ruined...
And its also a bit of a kick in the teeth, since it is a Doctor Who story that never got told... Even though the 8th Doctor movie wasnt that great, I think it had some potential... It's a shame it never went anywhere.

When I first saw the Rown Atkinson Dr Who, for a moment I thought it was real. Still think he'd make a good doctor.

yeah, that's it--"the official 8th doctor (and other alternate-universe doctors) sourcebook." sign me up :D
They might just pull it all off in time, but C7 isn't exactly famous for being able to stick to a release date... far from it in fact.

Yeah, that's why I'm hesitant to subscribe. The Doctor Sourcebooks themselves are already about 2 years late.

Did they ever end up releasing the UNIT sourcebook that was supposed to be out 3 years ago?

Yes, UNIT is out (http://shop.cubicle7store.com/epages/es113347.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es113347_shop/Products/CB71104).

And how long ago was that? It was originally scheduled for release, I recall, at the very start of the Matt Smith era, so some three years ago now. When did they finally get it out?

It's been about three months, now, since the UNIT pdf dropped. It's available in print.
The Time Traveller's Companion is available in pdf, too, and it's getting good marks. I haven't seen either of them.
An 11 book series is looking a lot more possible. Maybe the BBC hired a second person to process approvals, since the big anniversary is this year.
11 separate books surely is milking it a bit. Paul McGann and even Chris Ecclescake won't get much so surely one book will do - most of them fought the same foes anyway.
My guess is the 11 books are due out between the coming anniversary and the next big anniversary in 10 years time given cubicle 7's inability to get anything out on time.
