Title: Dodge, Run!, Shoot!, Duck!! , Run!, Sneak!, ADD?!!? What The Feklar?
Post by: Koltar on June 21, 2009, 03:13:42 AM
Alright this is a sequell thread or "after play" report - kind of.

At a local game store earlier tonight I ran that STAR TREK scenario I had been working on. If you remember the old FASA version of the STAR TREK RPG, I re-cycled and adated "In The Presence Of My enemies" for use with GURPS. It was a tricky fit. In my opinion, PRIME DIRECTIVE isn't really the best way to approximate Star Trek wuth GURPS......anyway...

I got to the store 3 or 4 hours early because of logistics with transportation. The store - Yottaquest had a good selection of RPG Freebies on their free stuff table. GMs helping out during the day got to choose 5 items, casual broswers or visitors got to grab two items off the table. Two hours before my game there was a book signing with two local authors (They are writing a series of fantasy novels based on their old D&D campaign - and actually getting published)

The players get there and I give them the pre-genertated characters to choose from.  The one that got there first - Jennifer snagged a Vulcan Character I created to tempt a friend of mine - but fair is fair ....Jennifer got to the table first. Surprising was a friend of ours named Karen showing. Karen has never really watched STAR TREK and to be honest is not into it. However she haerd from Anat that I was running a game and would she like to go - she said "sure!" . So I had two players there from my recent G: TRAVELLER campaign.

The last player to get there was Greg - more about him later. Visually he was a tallish lanky white guy in his early 20s.

They all chose their characters and we got going - quicker than I expected actually. That part only took 15-20 minutes - thought that might go at least 30-45 minutes.

They started off for the Lorelyn Star System, when they got there - Surprise!! A Big 'ol Klingon Warbird shows up on their sensors on an intercept course with them. Greg playing a Starfleet Officer named Grissom tried to do some evasive maneuvers...ad asked for advice on tactics - in the end he wasn't going to succeed. (Scenario wasn't written that way)

The Klingon ship gets within Transporter range - then ZAP!! - they got shot with a Ship's disriptor beam set on Heavy Stun.

They wake up in Detention Cells - no sign of the ambassador. Small problem cropped here...Grehg had decded to take the highest ranking characrer , but then he started getting indecisive. That was not so good. The other three players started coming up with ways to escape their cells . At that point I introduced the Klingon guard after one of them was banging her cell trying her best to tap put a version of Morse Code.
The Guard told her to stop and be quiet in awkward english. (He cussed her out in Klingon first)

During this whole bit of them trying to escape their cells - I was teaching bits of GURPS-style to the wo newcomers as they went alomg. They did get a taste of it during the brief space battle.

Sounds fun. But I didn't know disruptors had a stun setting. :)

I was so tired that night - I forgot to finish typing my description.

Technically they don't - but if you fiddle with them a little - they do.

The original scenario specifically said the Klingon ship had specially adjusted ship's disruptors that had a stun setting. Not every Klingon vessel has that .

I still got to add to post #1/ OP my mini-rant about Gregg having "ADD"> All three women that were playing had fun and quite enjhoyed the game. The newbie or beginning player did some damn fine roleplaying as the one Vulcan officer in the group.
