This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

If WotC and everyone else is going to insist on calling 5e D&D Next, what will they call 6e. D&D, Even Nexter?  The Lastest Edition? I'm curious.

They may just call it D&D

Personally I do find it helpful for the publisher to enumerate editions.

I can see why, but on the other hand if the plan is to bring out new editions of all the old editions, I can see why you would want a different naming system for the core editions.

If we ended up with Classic D&D, Advanced D&D, Open D&D, Power D&D and D&D Next, each with several editions, I could live with it.

I consider "D&D Next" to be just a working title, quicker and easier than saying/writing: "Dungeons and Dragons, Fifth Edition".

Endless Flight

6th Edition would be D&D Next 2nd Edition.

7e will be "D&D: The Nexterest".

That's indeed the thought behind it: to just drop the edition numerals. Unless the plan changes between then and now:

Quote from: Mike MearlsI think that the actual naming of the game will come down to how the play-tests go and how people react to it. I'd love to just call it Dungeons & Dragons and leave the edition numbering behind.

After d&d next will come Nextest, then Nexterer, then Next, Punch, First of the Month, then finally Infininext!

They will go in spirit of film sequels imo: DnD Balboa. Or DnD:Chainmail.

Who cares what they call it?  Let's get to D&D Next and worry about another edition when it comes out.

As long as it's not called Dnd: The Crap it will be fine.  DndNext, DndLast, Dnd 5.0 whatever, as long as I like it will be all good.:D

I'm just saying, calling it Next is an amazing lack of foresight. In 5 or 6 years, when 6e is announced, this will be looked at as a dumb mistake.
