This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

I think they should do what Marvel always did with Ultron - switch it so every other edition has a number with the alternate editions proclaiming there is no longer a need for a number because this is the "ultimate" version.
Now Prepping: One-shot adventures for Coriolis, RuneQuest (classic), Numenera, 7th Sea 2nd edition, and Adventures in Middle-Earth.

Recently Ended: Palladium Fantasy - Warlords of the Wastelands: A fantasy campaign beginning in the Baalgor Wastelands, where characters emerge from the oppressive kingdom of the giants. Read about it here.

Quote from: two_fishes;521551I suspect this is exactly what will happen unless the next edition is a phenomenal success and rakes in the cash.

I wouldn't be surprised either.

If this Ryan Dancey post from a few months ago is really what went on behind the scenes,

then it wouldn't be surprising to see 5E as a last ditch effort to keep D&D alive.

At this point, it's beginning to resemble the Western and Eastern Empires.  The former (WotC) watching their hard-won gains slip through their fingers, barbarians at the gates, while the latter (Pathfinder and the OSR factions) hum along doing their own thing to great success.

Since it's Ancient Greek, not Latin, "Prometheis" would be the plural."

For every idiot who denounces Ayn Rand as "intellectualism" there is an excellent DM who creates a "Bioshock" adventure.

Who will play the role of the Turks though?

Turks, not Turkish :P. One of my favourite films, though I like Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels more.

I don't know what a Turk is in this context, but if it's represented by Fantasy Craft it's gotta be awesome!

According the Dancey's story, 4e was already the last ditch effort, and failed miserably. And yet, here we are waiting for the release of 5e. Maybe 6e will also be the last ditch effort.

If anything, the title of the Turk here goes to Warhammer ;p.

They are the wildcards like Rincewind points out but where he favors Warhammer I favor FantasyCraft, pick your poison both are awesome so whichever you choose you won't lose. :D

Meh, Ryan Dancey has ulterior motives given he thinks MMO's are the wave of the future and has a personal stake in making it true.  He does have good points though.

His vision may happen but I doubt it will happen in this generation if not several.  RPG'S are far more than simple games they are social events for a whole segment of society.

All of Ryan Danceys comments, in my experience, can only be really understood and put into context if you consider where he's either working or wanting to work at the time he says it.  When he was working for WoTC, D20 was king and would dominate the industry forever. When he was working in computers, the RPG was dead.  When he started working for white wolf, suddenly RPGs are still mostly dead but if you're going to do them they need to be about Story.
