I would consider Mongoose Traveller and Mongoose's RuneQuest II to be clones in their own way.
They are directly inspired by the originals, duplicate some if not most of their mechanics, yet they really aren't originals themselves.

I don't think the fact they were published by Mongoose makes a difference. It's not about 'indie games' or all of that shit. The play's the thing, here.

GORE from Goblinoid Games (a retro-clone of BRP, which suffered from the fact that the fullblown BRP book was published months after it was released).

OpenQuest from D101 games (a "near-clone" of Avalon Hill's RuneQuest III, drawing on Mongoose's MRQI SRD).

I am especially fond of OpenQuest.

It's not a 'clone' or even a 'near clone', but rather a 'faux' old school game.

'Mazes & Minotaurs' would be another game in that genre.

Mutant Future is the Gamma World clone.

It has spidergoats.

Joey2k

Legends of the Ancient World, a clone of The Fantasy Trip.  There are also adaptations for Sci-Fi and Old West.

I would like to disagree with you, but it's not so easy! I never thought of MRQ2 as a clone, but I'm starting to think you might be right. In any case, I'm glad to have it, it's one of the best versions of the BRP system.

Interesting I didn't consider Mutant Future a clone--I love it, but I didn't consider it a "clone" since it has some of its own mechanical feel. (Then again I love GW, but preferred 2/4 for play.)

I see about Runequest and the like, that makes logical sense if if they aren't solicited/called that.

Mutant Future is not really a GW clone - it is a GW re-imagining using the Labyrinth Lord rules, in the same way that Spellcraft & Swordplay is a "Chainmail turned RPG" "what-if clone".

There once was talk of an de-Tekumel-ed Empire of the Petal Throne clone, Swords of the Steel Throne, but it never materialized. (The most interesting bit was that it would not have used the OGL, and that it would have been an OD&D rewrite without OGL, effectively!)

Mini Six is a d6 System clone.

Kyle's Sixlettersystem (GAMERS) is a loose Classic Traveller clone, turned universal system.

The Allseeing Eye is a clone of the first edition of Das Schwarze Auge/The Dark Eye.
Swords & Wizardry & Manga ... oh my.
(Beware. This is a Kickstarter link.)

Excellent clone, by the way, that deserves a lot more praise and playing, if you see what I mean. ;)
