This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Quote from: Cranewings;491838they see a red goblin, buck naked, playing a flute...he stands up, dances a jig, and sings a song about how dwarves are greedy and can't help themselves from gold. Then he runs off.

Quote from: Kaldric;491844It's all about setting goals.

He thinks he's playing in a humorous fantasy game, where the main goal is to make funny things happen.

Uh, he IS playing in a humorous fantasy game, obviously.  He just has a DM who doesn't know what kind of game HE wants to play, and pulled a bait and switch on the players with the type of game he's offering them.

I mean, come on, a dancing singing flute-playing naked red goblin running around teasing dwarves, and it's the player who is confused about it being a humorous fantasy game? Please.  He's not confused, he took a very clear cue from his DM, who then decided he wanted to be all serious about his obviously-humorous game.

Cranewings, you're the one being stupid here.  Particular with an auto-kill bear-trap being DROPPED FROM ABOVE.  The whole scenario is ludicrous.  Even if you want to treat it as serious, you need to HIT the player with the item being dropped (and item not normally dropped, but secured to the ground at a specific angle), and then the player needs to take some damage and may survive (because even if it hits, it doesn't necessarily hit them IN THEIR FACE, and it's also an item DESIGNED TO NOT KILL THINGS).  If you don't do it that way, your players should ONLY use bear traps, the army should only use bear traps, the whole friggen setting should be just chalk full of bear traps, as a cheap auto-kill tool.

You created a silly situation, and now you're pouting that one of your players treated it that way.  Fuck that - you want a serious campaign, then you need to treat it seriously yourself.  And that includes both the dancing singing flute-playing teasing naked red goblin, and the silly bear-trap auto-kill you used.

Mistwell, it is hard to comvay in type on here but I'll say it this way sense I won't get the benefit of the doubt: goblins are akin to fairies and devils in my game. Dealing with them has been a main part and while the players found it funny, they also found the red skin highly threatening and refused to go near it until the scattered group got together, because my players are afraid if goblins.

It was only after expressing fear of it's intention and assembling the group that the player changed his mind about being afraid and blundered in.
