This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Yeah, from the sounds of it, they are going to try to fulfill the Kickstarter so don't count them out yet.

It's no longer in their hands, as they have lost administrative control over their own company. All I can say is that they have an excellent reputation here in the German RPG community and continue to receive significant support. Details will emerge sooner or later and I'd motion to postpone all judgement until that happens.

The dark gods await.

Quote from: NinjaWeasel;1090877I read somewhere that the live streaming event is an internal thing, for employees and contractors, and not for public consumption. Still sounds like they are working on keeping things going though and not just walking away from this.

The Youtube interview is not going to happen but then again the people who used to run the company wouldn't have been able to make any statements that go beyond the press release in that interview anyway.

That's not nearly enough money for what they were trying to produce.

David Johansen

If they manage to pull through this and fulfill their kickstarter it may well become the gold standard of how to handle these things.

It'd be nice to see that, even if the production values have to be rolled back or something.

I backed the kickstarter they did just before this one. (Mars for Space 1889)
There did not seem to be any problems with it.

I am pretty sure the current kickstarter isn't related to the situation...it just ended and even if they didn't have enough money it wouldn't have created an immediate insolvency situation.

If the 'out of the blue' is correct, I would imagine the courts will work with them.

Man I feel bad to all the people that backed this project.  You guys got the shafted.

(I have to admit. I was suspicious but I backed anyways. Damn if I would have just listened to my gut...)

I'll add this over on BGG to the big list if someone hasnt allready.

Katalyka recently went even more downhill when the designer told the backers "Sorry, moneys all gone. But heres a copy going to whomever offers the most. Oh and the rest of you backers can just buy it from my Facebook shop." Oh and she removed all the PNP files so backers cant even get that option.

Rather appalling how this went from bemusingly kooky to increasingly unpleasant.

That's the one where the person literally went crazy and started hearing voices.

I'm surprised GMS hasn't tried that.

It's mighty suspicious to declare insolvency directly after a major cash infusion.

Let's hope the backers receive something.

Well with Doom that Came to Atlantic City we started digging and I helped uncover Chevalier's scam as he was funnelling the money for the game into buying movie making equipment and making indie movies that he then tried to hide. State is still watching his income till he pays off the debt to the designers, artists and backers. All of which he ripped off.

Agreed and seconded. It is one thing to declare insolvency before an infusion of cash. Doing it shortly after receiving money from a kickstarter is as you save mighty suspicious to myself as well imo. Yes things happen that one cannot control the timing is way too convenient for it thoug. My time passes the more I lose faith in Kickstarter and rpg companies who use it. Yes their have been successes with Kikcstarter for every success we seem to see double the amount of failures.

It's quite possible the insolvency is caused by tax depts. In Germany you need to pay whatever the revenue service forces you to pay at first.
There may be additional tax payments later in the year. You may have to pay unwarranted additional taxes first and in a second step you may file a complaint and then get your money back. However you first have to pay. Payment periods aren't that generous.

If you can't pay in the first place, you need to file for insolvency.

The insolvency started with Clockwork's subsidiary book publishing house Feder & Schwert and dragged Clockwork along.
The incident took Clockwork by surprise.
Uhrwerk does have a very good reputation in Germany. Within the community and among freelancers. Here's a statement from Jason Durall (line developer of Dark Conspiracy).

While I understand Clockwork isn't that familiar on the english speaking market, you could have done your research instead of jumping directly to allegations.

Clockwork/Uhrwerk is maybe the most reliable, honest and open RPG Company in Germany.
Ulisses Spiele IMHO don't hold a candle to them.

I rarely support crowdfundings and even preorders. Most rpg companies are small ones, not that financially solvent. There's a long list of RPG companies who got bankrupt belly-up. So investment isn't without risk.
Then: CF tend to take forever to fulfill completely (2 years behind time isn't that rare). In the times between there can happen quite a lot in your life. And I don't like CF campaigns to be used as marketing campaigns.

People throwing money at rehashed RPGs that were crap to begin with.
