This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Censorship on the OBS

Now that it's been a good three months, has anyone heard of a product being unfairly removed from the store? I'm keenly interested to see whether the change has advocated undue censorship, as has been touted by certain personalities of our hobby.
No thanks.

AFAIK, the actual report function was just instituted a short while ago (and isn't 100 percent functional yet) so it may be a little earlier to start looking for fallout (or the lack thereof).
Remember when Illinois Nazis where a joke in the Blue Brothers movie?

Democracy, meh? (538)

"The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn't even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it."

I think it would be valuable and interesting to maintain a list of all known actions arising from the report button, regardless of any opinion on whether they're justified or not.

The problem with this is that I don't think there's any indication of a product being removed due to being reported, short of a product that you knew was there suddenly being gone. Even then, there's no explanation given, unless someone involved in the process (e.g. the publisher) makes a public statement about it.

Given that there are over 45,000 products on OBS, instances of one disappearing due to being reported will be very quiet and hard to notice.
"...player narration and DM fiat fall apart whenever there's anything less than an incredibly high level of trust for the DM. The general trend of D&D's design up through the end of 4e is to erase dependence on player-DM trust as much as possible, not to create antagonism, but to insulate both sides from it when it appears." - Brandes Stoddard

The Swine will go after prominent targets, and almost certainly won't be quiet about it regardless of how it goes. If it gets banned they'll jump to praise the censorship as good and pure and righteous and wonderful. If it doesn't get banned they'll cause a huge uproar demanding that Wieck change his mind and accusing him of being complicit or even party to whatever various sins they accused the product of.

It's a culture fueled by the high of righteous indignation and virtuous fury -  they can't help but crow about the scalps they collect.
Therefore, let's monitor their gloating grounds for chatter about their targets and 'triumphs'.

Shouldn't be too difficult since so many people on this site also lurk rpgnet. ;)

I think you'll see two things.

First: Something being attacked and the SJW nut faction trumpeting it.

Second: The real threat. The ones who sit back and quietly target smaller stuff and you may never know about it till someone notices. If ever.

well an easy way is to find out i think is watch scorched urfs stuff

I don't expect to see anything happen until the next time something gets enough political traction to be considered by a certain group to be worth targeting. But considering that OBS still has products with tentacle rape, and still has that Pimp: the Backhanding game -- the one with the card that lets you scorch a prostitute with hot fryer grease -- and it's fucking Gamergate of all things that gets them riled up . . . hell if I know what will set them off next time, or when it will be.

Honestly, I think the report function is just for appearances, and I expect them to actively ignore such reports as a matter of course, only addressing particular products when it seems politically advantageous to do so.
