Some interesting news coming from New Zealand (http://www.blueplanet-rpg.com/):

QuoteReturn to the Blue Planet

(Auckland, New Zealand) May 7, 2008—RedBrick Limited announced today that they have successfully concluded negotiations with Biohazard Games for a license to publish roleplaying products for the Blue Planet milieu. Blue Planet is a science-fiction roleplaying game set in humanity's near future. Prepare for a compelling journey to a distant water world where life is hard and dying is easy. A world where GEO Marshals enforce the peace and wired mercenaries patrol deep waters in deadly fighter subs. A planet where corporate greed and human desperation ravage an alien ecology, threatening to plunge humanity into a war of survival with an ancient legacy. Welcome to Poseidon. Welcome to Blue Planet.

James Flowers, RedBrick Company Director, said "At RedBrick we work with game properties that we feel passionate about. Blue Planet is one of these properties and we look forward to continuing in the footsteps of Biohazard Games. Jeff Barber and Greg Benage have created an exciting game with a lot of unexplored potential. Equally important, Blue Planet is a game that foreshadows a lot of the events happening in our own world. RedBrick will continue to work closely with Biohazard Games to ensure continuity with the original vision for Blue Planet."

Jeff Barber, Biohazard Games President, said "We are excited that the Blue Planet adventure will continue. Fans of the game have been waiting a long time for a revitalization of the line, and RedBrick's community-based approach means that not only will their patience be rewarded, but that the Blue Planet player community will actually have a voice in the direction the new line takes."

James Flowers added, "At present, we have a lot to do and our immediate focus is making the Second Edition books available in electronic format as eBooks, and getting the Ancient Echoes supplement back into print. We will announce more details on what we have planned for the future of Blue Planet in due course."

Though I love SF games, I never saw the attraction of Blue Planet. I'm happy for the fans though. :D

But I do that already in both Ringworld and StarCluster. That's not something specific to BP.

I own BP, players guide and Fluid Mechanics. I love the detail. I could never get into the setting though. It could be how we played it but it always seemed so dark and depressing. Reminded me of Shadow Run but better (I don't like the magic elements).

I am with you on the part though, that the attraction of the setting just was never there for me.

And yeah, I will probably get it. :deflated:

As far as I'm aware of, they're just reprinting 2nd ed stuff for now. They MIGHT come out with new material later, but haven't committed.

Ill leave my 2nd edition books on the shelf until I decide to run it.

Is it really that popular that it needed a new edition? And what more does the game and setting have to say?

Well, there's 'are there other planets/other wormholes,' any detail about what's going on on Earth, Mars, the Belt; how about in the rest of the Poseidon system?

Plus there's always room for adventures and campaign books.

Excellent! Maybe this time I'll actually get to play a  game of it.

Seriously, it comes out years ago, I see it at cons, every seat filled in 5 minutes.

A couple years later, no one's running it at all, never got to play it.
