I got this idea off rpg.net, and I actually posted this thread there first. But I would like to open it up to this community as well. Inspiration was in a story hour, the god Gygax was beseeched for aid in turning some undead. Someone commented about using all the major people who influenced D&D in some way (for good or ill) as a pantheon. I got to thinking it was a cool idea, so I started this. I've added some of the additions and comments from the Big Purple already to this thread. But I'd like to hear your input as well.

List the Name of the God, its sphere of influence and its Alignment. I'll update this main post from time to time.


First up, the pantheon of Law

Gygax: Master of Dungeons, Chief among Gods

Arneson: The Egg. Creator of the World

Holmes: The Law Giver

Moldvay: The Builder

Mentzer: God of Learning and Knowledge

Cook: Two-Headed God of Rebirth


Neutral Pantheon


Ward: God of Mutation and Change

Not much is known about Djakwa'ys, the Goddess of Twisting Paths. Her cult is secretive and obfuscatory, with layer upon layer of mystery rites, obfuscatory professions of faith that are rejected later on, and dueling heresies that higher initiates only know to be the same cult under different guises. This misdirection and deceit are in fact a central part of her worship.

Its kind of goofy, but the source thread over at TBP that inspired it is made of pure win. :)

A guy is posting play reports of his group as they run through a random dungeons campaign of mostly by the book B/X.

Characters die off left and right, and are replaced and the game moves on. Once you get into the thread,you can't help cheering for this team of misfits.

Anyway, in that game world, the game designers of TSR are invoked as deities.

I wish he would cross post his play reports here.
