This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Best & worst Youtube RPG channels?

There are the well known channels like Matt Colville's, but there seem to be a lot of smaller ones around now.

One I like a lot: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCly0Thn_yZouwdJtg7Am62A - Great DudeBro style, completely unpretentious style, enthusiastic, generally not ultra-sophisticated but plenty of good stuff & some to disagree with.
One I think is appalling: https://www.youtube.com/c/HowtobeaGreatGameMasterChannel - worst sort of condescending, pompous, railroading GM style. Youtube kept pushing this at me for weeks!

What are some of your favourites & bete noires?

Charon's Little Helper

It's a podcast instead - but I've found One Shot to be reasonably entertaining to have going in the background while I'm doing something else.

Apparition

The "semi-official" BattleTech YouTube sessions can be found here.  It combines the tabletop RPG and wargame.

Warboss Squee

I only do video games, but I wouldn't mind a critique.

Just search my user name.

Shawn Driscoll

For YouTube vids, I guess it comes down to what one finds entertaining/useful.

Harlock

Terrain making channels are as close as I get to RPG stuff on YouTube. I enjoy the hobby and have learned a lot of techniques. That said, my current groups aren't using minis, though my GM expressed an interest in some YouTuber who makes modular stuff and I turned him onto an even cheaper source for that kind of thing. If he decides to go that route, I'll gladly pick up the knife and foam insulation again.

However, it's a 2nd Edition AD&D game with players from 9 years old to 43, so abstractions may work best.

I enjoy Tetsubo's RPG videos because most of the time I disagree with him. It allows me to see things from a different perspective which is always good.

Oh yeah, I strongly disagree with pretty much everything Tetsubo says. He's not as condescending as Bacon Battalion but I would still tend to put him in my Worst pile because I think his advice would be very harmful if followed.

I'm glad most people share my high regard for Matt Colville's vids. Unlike him I'm a fan of Frazetta-esque swords & sorcery tropes, but that's purely personal preference - and if one of your players has an issue with naked virgins shackled to stony altars then sure, cut that stuff out. But his general advice on running the game, his discussions of what worked for him and what went wrong, are consistently excellent.

Thank you for the kind words.

I like Kurt Wiegel's Game Geeks reviews. - He has his biases, and he's upfront about it. He was a large factor in my consideration of ever playing two systems I would ordinarily NEVER have played - Savage Worlds and Edge of the Empire. As well as Fantasycraft.

He's probably the one I watch the most... Him and "Talking Bout Games'. Who does some of the most in depth reviews I've heard. And loves lots of differnt stuff.

I liked some of the older youtube channels. I felt they were speaking about a hobby from the heart. I really don't like the newer 'whizz bang wow' factor for people who are just trying to get 'subs'. Is it a comedy show or a show about RPGs?! Rember I have virtually no sense of humor.

Testsubo57s channel - I've not watched him in a few years and I'd be on the left side of politics... But his 'passive aggressive' tone always put me off.
