This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

We are a silly fun-loving gang. If you treat your games as sewious business then you will be unhappy here.
Quote from: JonWakeGamers, as a whole, are much like primitive cavemen when confronted with a new game. Rather than \'oh, neat, what\'s this do?\', the reaction is to decide if it\'s a sex hole, then hit it with a rock.

Quote from: Old Geezer;724252At some point it seems like D&D is going to disappear up its own ass.

Basically.

"We're here to have fun together, socialize, play. It's people first, game second. Not the other way around." i.e. "Don't be a dick."

Or, to quote Kyle: people, snacks, setting and system, in that order.

kryyst

Ditto to the above.

I'd also supplement in.  I'm running the game for you guys to have fun.  Trust me that anything I do is to keep people entertained.  If you pull the rules lawyer crap you won't like the outcome.

"The DM has dibs on your sister."

My group jokingly used this one in college on new players because I dated a couple of my players' friends or sisters.  I have no idea why, but there was this one year where my players knew all these cute girls on campus.  Of course, I awarded XP to whoever introduced me to a hottie so the joke was born.  Having to explain to a girl you just met what her friend means by "I want extra XP for this one" was always a good laugh.

Peregrin

Well, asssuming that my "dick radar" (that sounds horrible, now that I think about it) didn't go off when I met the person...

Personal issues get taken care of before or after the game, not during.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

What Clash said, although with the qualifier 'most of the time.'  We're pretty much all dicks here and there. :)

Thanlis

Sadly, nobody ever thinks they're a dick.

My semi-tongue in cheek one is "NPCs have feelings too." Which is shorthand for "the world is as real as the PCs; expect reactions to your actions."

I've always used the phrase: "There are consequences to your actions".

I disagree. People know when they are being dicks playing the game.

Yep! They know. Sometimes they don't know why, but they know they are. :D
